Cap might be worse than expected.

No one cares. On the subject of Tootoo, not much to hate about him or anything that screams possible buyout. I was disappointed that MLive article even listed his name as a possibility. One of the leagues best pound-for-pound fighters, although he had a poor fighting year last season, and put up 8 points (the same as Emmerton and Miller) in 42 games (less games than Emmerton and Miller) on very limited minutes (about a third less than Emmerton and Miller). Hopefully that's the last of that. -

Bertuzzi does not need to be bought out if he remains on LTIR for the season. Tootoo's cap hit is miniscule; a buyout would put the Wings on the hook for a whopping (sarc) $566,667 for the next four seasons. As for your salaries, I'm not sure in which universe Brunner will get $4m, Nyquist $3m, or Kindl $3.25m. It certainly isn't the one in which we reside. -

A Day in the Life of Jakub Kindl

These videos were posted some time ago, and they were filmed during the lockout, but nevertheless I found them interesting; it's always find it intriguing to see the daily life of a professional athlete, especially such a quiet guy as Kindl. -
1 pointI'll say right now that the idea of buying out Tootoo is completely unrealistic. Aside from the minimal cap impact, even if he doesn't play in the playoffs, there's a reason why Holland signed him to a 3 year deal. This team needs grit just to survive the regular season, and they're going into a new conference with some heavy hitters. Sammuelsson is the most realistic candidate, especially considering his string of non-critical injuries that still managed to keep him out the lineup.

;-) The what if threads are making me laugh! Hossa, Malkin, Kovalchuk... These guys are Hall of Famers. Why would a team dump these kind of guys? Do you think the Pens board has a thread that says "what if Zetterberg is bought out?! If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle! -

The thing about these "bridge deals" as folks like to call them, the ones worth 2.5-3.5 million, is that they're given out by Wings brass after a guy has proven he can play a few season in Detroit, or at least that he can contribute. Zetterberg, Filppula and Kronwall were given their 2.65, 3 and 3 million dollar deals in response to showing they're capable, or even a few 40 point seasons for the forwards I mentioned. Brunner may be seen in a different light, but guys like Nyquist, Smith and Kindl aren't really in the same situation as other players given those "bridge deals". I imagine those guys will probably get 2-3 year deals, maybe in the area of 1.2-2.2 or so. Then go on to earn something, should they deserve it. -

but you said high end realistic cap numbers....there is nothing realistic about Nyquist getting $3M....high end realistic for Nyquist is $2M. None of those numbers are realistic high end or not... High end none of them top $2M, Brunner MIGHT get $3M.... not very realistic, but you didn't have to take your ball and go home...geez, man up. -

I don't know where people get the notion that these "kids" are going to top $2M, I realistically do not see any of them (sans Brunner) getting more than $1.5M each...that is a huge raise for all of them from their sub-million dollar contracts they were just on... With the raises you gave Nyquist, Smith, Brunner & Kindl, it's no wonder your cap is worse than expected... -

I think it should be reversed......throw the moon at Dats to stay in Detroit and a superstar UFA gets paid a million dollars to play with the guy. WIN WIN!!! -
1 pointRight. How could I fail to notice your open mindedness in between calling for him to be traded and feminizing his name (Franzine) for the last 3 years. You obviously give him a fair shake each year and he fails you by scoring more goals than anyone else on the team. I know this may come as a surprise to you, but the fact that I can objectively look at a hockey player and come to the conclusion that he's a valuable contributor to his team does not mean I "love" him. I determine a player's worth based on his contributions to the team's success, while you (apparently) base it on some gut level love/hate dynamic.
-
1 pointI know, on pace to have a career high in points and still led the team in goals. But then again, he disappears for long stretches all the time, which is why his longest goal scoring drought (7 games) is so much more unforgivable than Datsyuk's (11 games) or Zetterbergs (11 games). What a rapid decline!

28 goals and 62 points in a full season? Terrible! -
1 pointYep, those 14 goals and 31 points in 41 games were pathetic. We should probably trade him for Shawn Horcroff.

It happens all the time...if a team really wants a player they will make the deal and then offer him the money...Anaheim was just a suggestion. Someone who is in dire need for a 2nd line center would be willing to do so just so they get the exclusive bargaining rights to him before July 5th. It has happened before and will continue to happen. Of course someone with a top 15 pick may not offer their 1st, but someone in the bottom 20 just might... Tootoo did everything that was asked of him and since next season won't be a sprint to the playoffs, he will get even more playing time and have a bigger role on this team.... I too am perplexed why everyone wants to ditch him. I guess they think that every F/A power forward tough guy is going to come flocking to the Wings this July... Tootoo is more valuable to this team than Franzen... HatetheDrake, I don't like getting my hopes up either and that is the most reason why I don't like to drop names too much. When I do suggest names, I usually just say them because they are the type of player I want to see on this team. If we replaced Fil and Franzen with Ryder and Dupuis, I think this team becomes better. But I am not getting my hopes up for those exact two guys. I also like Burrows & Cole, but they would have to be traded for... -

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Gustav Nyquist ($1.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($2.500m) Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Joakim Andersson ($1.000m) / Danny Cleary ($2.000m) Drew Miller ($0.850m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Brendan Smith ($1.000m) Danny DeKeyser ($1.350m) / Jakub Kindl ($1.000m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $55,127,879; BONUSES: $1,010,000 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $10,182,121 This is not the roster I WISH for. It is my best educated guess as to what Kenny WILL do. I do not buy for a minute in what he says in regards to keeping Bert and Sammy. There is simply no room unless we plan on rolling 5 lines. Cola is not needed now with the addition of Danny D plus Lashoff proving he can at least provide solid depth. Pay a #7 dman 2.5 mil a season? I do not see it. Cola has 1 more year left on his contract so Kenny should be able to deal him for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick. Cleary is loved by both Kenny and Babs. Anyone who thinks he will NOT be back is in denial. Miller is cheap depth who Babs loves as well so he will be kept. Plus Miller wants to be here and will accept any role given to him. He also knows how many injuries we run into during the season so he will end up getting plenty of ice time. Emdog will stay because he is young, cheap and insurance for Helm if he cannot play. Kenny will certainly make offers for UFAs and explore the compliance buyout market. However I do not see him signing anyone who can really help us. We will have plenty of cap space and Kenny will tell us what he always does. That he will use the cap space at the trade deadline. The deadline will come and go and the roster will not change. I learned my lesson last summer in getting my hopes up for UFAs Parise and Suter. I even hoped we could sign Weber when he would have become a UFA this summer. But that did not happen. It is nice for us fans to WANT good players in their prime who can make our team better. But so do 29 other teams. Teams overpay for UFAs and teams who are responsible and who build their teams through the draft and do things the right way usually do not make these mistakes. Kenny will not be dumb and give a guy like Horton 7.5 mil a season on a long term deal plus a no trade clause. FWIW I see Horton accepting less to stay in Boston. Why wouldn't he? I see Clarkson staying in NJ for way more than he is worth. I hate to be negative but we have to be realistic here. Look at Kenny's recent track record. Is there anything over the past 6 summers which would make us believe he will do anything of significance? I don't mind going with the kids and seeing them improve. We are a good hockey team. I believe we will be a Cup contender next season. I just don't see us acquiring what many Wings fans think we will. Or hope we will. Supply and demand. There is much more demand and too little supply. GM's who need to make headlines and try and save their jobs will be the ones overpaying for above average 2nd liners in the UFA market. Kenny is not one of these GMs. -
