I don't understand how or why Tootoo should be bought out. He did exactly what was expected of him. Also, the "one-dimensional" argument baffles me. He put up 8 points in 42 games. For comparison, Emmerton put up 8 in 48. When I think of one-dimensional players, I think of John Scott and Jody Shelley. And the notion that "he takes stupid penalties" is laughable, considering guys like Smith and Abdelkader have, on several occasions, taken idiotic penalties at the worst possible times during games. Don't remember Tootoo blowing any games for us.

I don't remember him taking any more dumb penalties than Smith, Quincey or Abdelkader. What are these penalties that Tootoo took this season? I don't remember him costing us too many games. He's not one-dimensional either. Look at his career numbers and then look at Tony Twist's or Stu Grimson's. How is Tootoo one-dimensional? He fights and he lays good bodychecks. Scores as many points as most 4th liners in the league. What is he not doing right? I feel like there's too many posters here who look at all 4th line fighters as being in the same basket. Too much stereotyping.

Even if I didn't like Miller, this signing would be worth it for the fit of apoplexy it has sent mindfly into on HF.

Can't believe Quenneville was 2nd. More consideration for having a stacked roster than Babs ever got, even in 07-08/08-09. The Mustachioed One deserved it, and I'm glad he won.

Sadly, I have had a feeling for a few weeks that Tootoo will be bought out and we'll head East with one of the smallest rosters we've ever had. Not that I think Tootoo should be bought out. I posted somewhere I while back his point-per-minute ratio is higher than any other 4th line player and obviously he is the only recognised agitator on the team. He's a sort of player that is hard to find in the NHL, which is why his cap hit is $1.9m and why players in his same ilk (Chris Neil for example) all command such high salaries. To sum up my feelings: We need him and we won't be able to get a better player than him for cheaper unless we go for an all out enforcer which isn't ideal given our current roster.

That 5 minute penalty was an awful call. Griffins really could have used Nyquist in the 3rd period. Guess we'll just have to win it tomorrow.

Why? Because he was 2nd in points in the playoffs? Because he's an absolute warrior? A veteran leader on the bench and in the locker room on an increasingly young team? Said it before, as a 13th forward, playing ~40 games, <10min per game I'd be more than happy to re-sign Cleary. Emmerton is expendable. With a healthy Helm he's 5th on the depth chart at centre, and if we get injuries, Franzen and Abdelkader can centre top-six/bottom-six respectively. Not to mention we might want to give guys like Sheahan a few games when we get injuries. Emmerton can be waived/sent down/traded for no loss. We got too many bodies pushing for a spot, and Emmerton just ain't good enough to cut the mustard. Sorry kid.

Hair colour has nothing to do with aging. I started turning grey at age 16. My grandfather was pure white by age 30, and it didn't stop him from being in the Navy until he was almost 50 (WWII), and fathering my dad when he was over 40. It's hereditary. I don't think he will age faster than anyone else.

YES! YES! YES! There is neither font size nor colour suitable to express my joy. Great PK guy, low price, can chip in some offense, the line of Eaves, Emmy, and Drew was a very good 4th line- better than some teams' second. If we've met our match on the top lines and are basically cancelling the other team out, these guys can get it done. I'm thrilled beyond words. I like this guy. I like this deal. Happy day. This could possibly be, although if a great deal comes along, I'm sure he'll be in the running. Otherwise, see where we stack up against the new competition and fill in our weak spots from there.

Great value right there! Really happy he's staying with us. He probably could have got a little more $$$ and 2nd line minutes on another team.
