Sad. He's a good player and deserves to have a job

Bettman to hold a press conference tomorrow at 10... *tomorrow at 10* It has come to our attention that certain players have tried to circumvent the new rules the NHL has put in place to protect the players. Those players will be dealt with accordingly, as they both have suspension hearings resulting in 20+ games possibly. The NHL BOG and the NHLPA worked hand in hand to create these new rules, and any attempt to circumvent them by any player will result in a suspension, and your balls cut off, and auctioned off to help pay the fine you will also be receiving, also sold with yellow melted ice, available at the NHL.com store. We feel it is in the players best interest to keep their jerseys untucked during a game, and there helmets on during a fight, if they break there hand so be it. If there helmet so much as falls off during the fight, accidentally or not, suspension, jersey gets pulled up and sits partially over the equipment, double minor. The NHL is doing everything they can to keep the game as exciting yet safe as possible. Any questions? - No I wasn't dropped on my head as a kid to the best of my knowledge - Yes I was always short - No we are not going to lower the cost of anything NHL related, in fact we just agreed to raise the prices %10 -Yes I am sure I wasn't dropped on my head *get's pissy and walks of step ladder and off the stage*

will you tank red wings games due to the cleary signing

Ya I agree. I disagree with a lot of the moves because I'm a fan. I want my team to win. But win or lose I'll always be watching/attending games when I can.

Helmets (especially with visors) need to come off during fights. This is why the league should be run (and the rules set) by people who have actually played the game and not by lawyers. Yes, it is possible to hurt one's head during a fight (see: Lilja, Andreas) but not as likely as getting hurt by hitting a guy with a helmet. Kudos to these two for doing this and showing the league how dumb and out-of-touch with player needs rules like this are.

I'd love to see Igor Larionov, Slava Kozlov and Slava Fetisov play one last game together. I mean, gee, while we're under the wishing tree...

    Only if they punch themselves

Didn't say I wasn't excited about them. I'm just excited about Jensen too. They're better right now, but It's not like they're miles ahead of Jensen. Sproul and Ouellet are not un-tradeable, untouchable guys. Great prospects, but in no way does that warrant special treatment. This isn't Yzerman we're talking about. If you make statements like that without an "IMO" I'll ask for a source every time. Don't really care if you don't like it.

Its brilliant. It is sad that in a few years there will be a penalty for hitting too hard.

This right there. I dont have any stats to back anything up but just going on memory Id think its fair to say there were more man games lost due to hand injuries punching visors and helmets than injuries from falling in a fight.

Looks like there's still a chance Steve and Sergei might also play. Sure hope so. How epic would that be? Would probably be more pumped for the Alumni game than the actual Winter Classic game LOL http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/09/red_wings_still_hoping_to_conv.html

The article lost all credibility right there. Chicago has 2 lottery picks on there roster right now and three the last 10 years. That is nothing like the Red Wings.

And in today's Cleary news, he's back to wearing #71 for the whole season. He had discussed switching to 15, as the kids at his hockey school had voted for that number, but now he's changing his tune. Stay tuned for more of the "Dan Cleary is the center of the Universe" show after these messages from your local sponsors.

The whole rule to begin with is stupid but then again this is the NHL run by a bunch of baboons

The worst kept secret since the 2013 Winter Classic "announcement." Fans knew months before the official announcement it was going to be Detroit/Toronto. They act like it's the Red Wedding when in reality it's more like WikiLeaks. Still, yay for The Perfect Human!

Not only that, IF they are including Toews and Kane as any part of that future score, then their statement about Blackhawks doing all their young investment without the help of Lottery picks is a blatant lie.

Ur statement about Bert not being in the doghouse bc Jensen isn't a top prospect is completely unfounded and frankly bad. First, you have no idea if Bert is in the doghouse or not, or why. and 2nd Jensen is very much a top defensive prospect. He won best defensemen in his league last year for a reason.

Anyone else bugged by us being "like" Chicago, even though Chicago copied us?
  20. 1 point
No, the reason he isn't in "the serious doghouse" right now is because he did exactly what he is supposed to do...agitate the opposing player to the point they lose their cool and end up taking a penalty.

The East should be crapping their pants. We were one goal away from the eliminating the Stanley cup champs. Now we're adding Alfie, Weiss, Helm, Dekeyser, Bertuzzi, Samuelsson and a more seasoned Nyquist, Tatar,Anderson and Smith. older? yes. but the lack of travel will take a few years off of the Vets and they will all look rejuvenated because of it. This will be the year we turn our power play around; it will be our enforcer again. (it won't be as great as 2008, but it'll be a heck of lot better than the last few years) BOLD PREDICTION: within a few years the East teams will start adapting to us, and people will be wondering why the whole league is now playing a "west conference" style game.

I feel that the biggest threat/opponent to the Detroit Red Wings this season will be The Detroit Red Wings. They're their own worst enemy at times. As stated earlier, when the Wings are playing their game, no one will beat them. Over the past couple of seasons, however, we've failed to compete at times, and the games where we DID show up to play, we've often squandered away our lead late in the third period. If the Wings can learn to play hard for 60 full minutes, they've got a legimitate chance to go far this year, both in the Eastern Conference and in the post-season.

Simple answer: The Wings. When they engage & play their game, there's no team (East or West) that they can't beat. It's when they get lazy, don't show up on time, etc. that things go wrong. So, the Wings are the team I fear the most.

I guess that's my biggest concern. The wear and tear. The grind of a full regular season with multiple games against the likes of the Bruins and Leafs. I have to wonder if our puck-possession system - which basically invites physical punishment (if you have the puck, you're not checking. And you're probably being checked) - might become something of a double-edged sword, given that Eastern teams generally play a looser, more wide open, run-'n'-gun game than what we've grown accustomed to in the West. Basically: we should have the puck a whole lot (good. See: controlling the play), but the flip-side of that is...we'll have the puck a whole lot (bad. See: "if you have the puck....") This is why I don't really see us parting with Tootoo. What if we end up really needing a little ball of hate? On a positive note: think of all the points we might "get back" by not playing the 'hawks 104 times. And we'll also be seeing the Flames less. And the Sharks.
