So if our power play is our enforcer and we can't score on the power play does that mean that we can stop saying that the PP is the enforcer? I don't want to read one post about revenge or bringing up Tootoo either. I want the Wings Holland wants on paper to finish out the season. It becomes obvious against teams like Ottawa, Toronto, and Boston that the Holland Euro-skill system will not work in the East over a full season. We need to get bigger, tougher, and less pretty. 1996-97 all over again. Datsyuk and the Wings were tossed all over the ice all night. It was a shameful game in all facets. The PP made me want to kill a puppy. The diving was pathetic and we can't blame the refs for non-calls when we get that many powerplays.

I. Vision If I could ask Kenny one question and only one this would be it. What is the vision for this team? Personally I don't see one, I see stop gap and over the hill signings but not a vision. 2. Identity Right now this team doesn't have one. Yes, I've said before but even after 21 games I am still struggling to see the identity of this team. Are they fast? No Young? No skilled enough for puck-possession? lamo hard to play against? no freaking way probably the softest team in the NHL I believe every team needs an identity which - at least to me - goes hand in hand with a clear vision, right now I am not seeing it. 3. 180 turn in terms of size, grit and nastiness For years now - since the last cup ! - Kenny has told the fans how the enforcer would be the PP and that's why other teams aren't going to take cheapshots or are afraid of playing their enforcers against the DetroitRedWings guess what....the Senators didn't even ice their "toughest" roster and they pushed around this team like nothing, Neil ran around like a monkey looking for his next banana (= player) in that case. This team has had two! 5:3 PPs and none of them was even close to being dangerous. It's ok to have a smaller but highly skilled top line but if you do that, make up for it with a fourth line from hell. Smith shouldn't be the one having to fight Neil nor should it be Tootoo it should be someone like McGrattan! 4. A statement game I know, I've posted this a few times now but really it is needed and fast. Don't kid yourself here other teams for sure have noticed how to play against this team and they also know that they aren't skilled enough anymore, so if Kenny doesn't react this week things will only get worse from here, Toronto, Boston and even the Canadiens are going to have some fun with this team. Please stay away from guys like Gaborik, Tlusty, Ruutuu or whomever of that kind enough with this soft euro style this team needs a top 6 bottom 6 approach and at least 2 - 3 more retooling years. McQuaid would be a nice addition, him + McGrattan + Tootoo would be a nice upgrade over our current fourth line.

f*** that, we had 3 5 on 3's... The Wing's defense and goaltending are s***, and the forward group can't score. Team simply sucks at the moment

I couldn't agree more with this. The Wings got pushed around and quit playing the game. Neil ran around all night intimidating the wings then pursued one of our young D into a fight he didn't want to be in. Z was roughed up and Pavel was beat down all night. Not one of the Red Wings stood up or helped out their teammates. Ericsson, Quincey, Abby where were you? If Abby won't help out and push back in a game like that he can be waived as well. Holland and co have a week to figure out what to do before our next meeting with them. and don't think every team in the league saw how the Wings folded last night as well

WTF is wrong with this team??? Their top player and arguably the best in the world gets elbowed in the head and not one sorry ass player does anything about it. I don't care if there is a suspension or not what i want to see is the team stand up for themselves and one another at the point when the incident happens, there is something fundamentally wrong with this team and their principles. Illitch should just relocate them to Sweden and let them play over there and Holland will be the happiest man alive. Im sorry to derail the thread but it infuriates me to watch this team and their complete lack of heart and toughness.

I've made my points on Quincey. He's a flaming bag of s*** on someones porch. But if not for Hollands poor management, how good could this team be? Quincey: 3.775 cap hit, 3 assists in 24 GP -14 Cleary: 1.75 cap hit 1G 2A in 23 GP +1 Samuelsson: 3.00 cap hit 1G 1A in 12 GP -1 Miller: 1.35 cap hit 1G 1A in 24 GP -8 Tootoo: 1.9 cap hit 0G 0A in 8GP -4 Eaves: 1.2 cap hit 0G 0A in 3 GP -2 12.975mil tied up in 6 guys who don't really do much. Could plugging in affordable kids and spending money more wisely on secondary scoring have really made us worse? Obviously not. As a saving grace, 4 of them are UFA's at seasons end, and when the cap goes up Millers contract won't be so bad. But it isn't pretty for this season, I had forgotten about Eaves and Tootoos contracts sitting in the minors, just poor management this season.

I like what Bertuzzi brings, but seriously other enforcers are not afraid to fight him...guys like Scott, McGrattan, McIntyre, McLaren, Orr or Bordelau are striking FEAR into the opponent. Heck call Russia and ask for Trevor Gillies I will be incredible pissed off, if they view the next meeting against Ottawa as a normal game, it's a statement game so they better make one. While Howard isn't to blame for the situation, he isn't helping either so what about giving the monster some games? He has played pretty well and even outplayed an elite goaltender in Tuka Raask some weeks ago.

wow, this has to be a nomination for worst post of the year. these guys get paid millions of dollars to play a game that many of us play for fun and for free. (heck with the cost of ice time, we mostly pay to play!) so excuse me if i dont get all humbled by someone playing injured. the way your post is written you would think they just freed kidnapped children or ended slavery or something. additionally, just about everyone here has acknowledged they dont 'hate' dan cleary, they are just frustrated with his role on the team. many of us, myself included, actually acknowledge our problem isn't even really with cleary. its with the coach and gm for putting him out there when he shouldnt be. the only person in this thread being an internet tough guy is you by implying that no one is entitled to dislike cleary because he has some sort of god-like status in your mind. p.s. if this was some sort of sarcasm, i apologize... but it seems serious.

God I love these kind of games. This is real hockey. Its just a shame the wings can't handle it....and being in the east its only going to continue and get worse.

Smith put Helm in a terrible position there, right after he put Quincey in a terrible position. Same old story with Howard. It's never his fault, yet all his stats sucks. Getting tired of it.

Kenny has now 6 days in order to prepare for a huge statement game (not scorewise). Shed whatever salary can be shed, send the non producing players to the AHL/put them on waivers get McKee up, sign a top 3 enforcer tell them:,,no matter what the league is trying to tell you, EVERYTHING goes you'll be paid even if suspended just do the ......insert job....on Neil, Spezza or Karlsson tell McKee to crash Cowen through the glass Charastyle, crosscheck Karlsson everytime he is one the ice and nominate Lehner/Andersson for getting kronwall(ed). This will be a game where I honestly don't care about two points, the DetroitRedWings need a huge statement game and if they don't react after this, Kenny deserves to be fired. An original 6 team getting pushed around at home, by a wannabe tough team thats unacceptable. If I am Babcock I'd be storming into Kennys office and tell him to either get me some tough, mean SOBS asap or I am out of here. How did the enforcer called PP work? Not very well and it's gotten worse every year since the perfect human and Holmer retired!

Quincey has been +1 only 2 games this year and the rest he was even or -ve. That is pathetic. He has 20 PM without a fight. He has the worst +/- in the league. He has 3 assists despite playing about a third of each game. What a piece of s***. Not worth the contract by any stretch and has cost this team quite often. I think we have taken 140min of PK or something like that and one player has 1/7th of that with no fights. Pathetic.

Disgraceful. My blood’s boiling. As s***-tastic as this team’s been, this is the angriest I’ve been all year. I hope we absolutely gut the Senators in Ottawa.

Because they play us hard, and we tense up and get all worried that we might lose to a team with a losing record on home ice, and then we lose to a team with a losing record on home ice. Also, we suck. Hard.

Ridiculous. Cleary cannot skate and cannot shoot. Exactly how does confidence play into the equation? And exactly how is it worth dragging Datsyuk down in order to squeeze a bit more production out of Cleary? How does that equation play out? Why was Abdelkader, whom Babcock raved so much about last season, suddenly exiled to the 4th line while Dan Cleary, who has half the points and none of the ancillary abilities, ends up playing with Datsyuk? UGH.

I don't hate Cleary. I do hate ungrateful, spiteful, keyboard warriors who are unable to appreciate the fact that the reason Cleary is so ineffective is because he has given quite literally everything his body has for this team. I refuse to hate a player who has been a part of so many great moments for this team. I refuse to hate a player who continued to play in the 2009 playoffs - all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals - with a double groin tear so bad he couldn't actually walk up a flight of stairs. I refuse to hate the player who laid out Phaneuf, fought Pronger, scored the winner in game 7 against the ducks. I refuse to hate a player who took a slapshot to face and was eating through a straw for a month, who lost 20lbs of muscle that had taken a lifetime to build, and when he came back went straight to the front of the net again. So all you internet tough guys who don't have a fraction of the heart, courage and toughness that Dan Cleary has displayed in the Red + White, I suggest you all STFU and show a bit of class, dignity and gratitude.
