Hell, probably half of our lineup tonight started the season in Grand Rapids, and not just started the season there, but likely would have finished it there if its not for all the injuries. Theyre young... its called growing pains, we're not used to it because of the steady line of vets we've rolled through here... its a changing of the guard in Detroit... We're not as good as we like to think, we've been spoiled. It's going to happen all over again though as these kids get more experience, and size, we're going to be that deadly team again, especially up front. On the back end, the D really needs help, it needs a solid vet.

I dont' mean grinding effort in that they were winning 1-0. It's a grinding effort in that it's guys without much experience and guys playing bigger minutes hanging on for dear life. Grinding out wins, often in ugly fashion. Look at the roster they had, especially the second half of the season. This team should not be in the playoffs. I just think it's overreacting for people to blame Babcock. He was the hero a week ago, and rightly so. This team didn't get here just because Nyquist got crazy hot. Now that a young Red Wings roster without Zetterberg, Ericssson, Alfredsson, and with a less than 100% Datsyuk is looking bad against the Presidents Trophy winner and Cup favorite in the East, people are calling for his head again.

Actually, I think what pisses me off the most about this is that it really is the Nashville series all over again. Perimeter, perimeter, perimeter. We're suppose to have grown since then. A series like this is why you need some toughness on your team. I know Holland won't address that, but it'd be great to have an enforcer challenge one of these Boston hitters and spark his team in the process. Our 4th liners can't do that. They play hard, but don't hit anything and don't fight. Waste of roster space and the crowd is dead partly because it knows we can't defend ourselves against Boston. And don't tell me that Miller is great on the PK, because this PK is a joke right now. Toughness is not our main problem to address, but it'd be nice if we had a guy who could do that in the lineup for this series. Instead, we get milksops like Miller and Kindl.
