    The Franzen Hate.

I don't care who you are or what you do for a living, no one, absolutely no one, gives "110 percent" every single day, every single minute at their job and never makes a mistake. Physicians don't, that's why there is malpractice suits. Engineers don't, look at the mess with GM and all the other recalls with the auto companies. The difference is, most of us don't have cameras watching EVERY thing we do. Even the greatest of players, Datsyuk and Zetterberg have an off night here or there where they aren't on the top of their game. Yes, Franzen is more noticeable than others and the difference between his "off" and on" is much greater, but the silly sports cliche that guys give "110%" every night is a fallacy.

    GM moves

If I was either of them I'd want to be in Chicago for the rest of my career. Management has done a damn good job of putting a competitive team together every year, with themselves as the center pieces. If Toews or Kane demand above 8 a year they are dumb... and as much as I despise them I don't think either are that stupid.

I think what he's trying to say is that that defense looks atrocious and the top 6, while not being the best top 6 ever, is still full of guys that can contribute and create offense. The top 6 could use some work, sure, but if we don't fix the D (top 4 specifically) we're in more trouble than if we don't fix the top 6. And don't say we need to sign a bottom pair guy, because we have 8 options already in the system. Besides, since you think Smith is a top 4 guy (which we know I disagree with), wouldn't it be nice to have a top 4 guy on your third pair? Bottom line is we need a top 4 guy waaayyyyy before we need a top 6 forward.

I would definitely say no on that one.

You can say what you like about corsi stats, love em or hate em, they are somewhat accurate and are becoming more and more commonly used. I don't care too much for them, but then again I don't care too much for any stats really. Yes stats are important but I'd much prefer to just watch the game and base my opinion on players and teams based on the trusty ol eye ball test. And anyone that has watched Smith over the latter half of last season and has come to the conclussion that he is "useless" or "tradeable" or whatever, obviously haven't been watching the same Brendan Smith as me and the entire Red Wings brass. Everyone in the Red Wings organization are very high on Smith, and like myself, believe that he has the tools to be a top pairing guy in this league.

When the wings were playing, if you watched carefully youd see every time Johan was on the ice, the opposition actually skated out of his path to the net, and wherever the puck was, he just cares so little 60-70 games a year that he couldn't do anything with his limitless golden opportunities. Seriously. I get that you're annoyed with his consistency. We all get it. Seriously. .... Its completely. And totally understood. That Johan franzen is a streaky goal scorer. We know his contract extends two-three years longer than wed like. We get that. It sucks. He hasn't shown up in the playoffs the way he did in 08, and he most likely never will. Now that I got the rational dislikes for him out of the way, can you stop reaching for arguments? When franzens not scoring, he still back checks, he's still not a liability when he's on the ice, and he's still setting guys up. For the most part, vaneks not doing that. Ovis definitely not doing that. They put up more points than him, and get wayyyy more money, but those were the comparisons. And if I call you Nancy do i have to show an AARP card to use it as an insult? Arrogance aside, the franzen hate is getting ridiculous.

I think I might throw up if I have to watch another season with Abby in the top 6. I'm fine with him net front on the pp but not 5on5.

That's why no Cup win by the Wings will likely compare to the one in 1997 for me. After watching them through the 80s, to get so close then get crushed by the Devils in '95, it just felt like they were never going to win one. Thinking that Yzerman may become one of those great players who never get to hoist the Cup. It's what made that one so special.

That both Vanek and Franzen are very talented players and are over scrutenized by fans league wide.

Kindl has some decent value I reckon due to his being a former first round pick who had a good season 2 years ago and showed his potential at the NHL level. Could easily be marketed as a guy who just needs a change of scenery and a different coach. Andersson though, I agree with you on.

Did you even watch the Canadians? Hell even NBC guys commented in it a couple times. He was always a threat and putting pressure on the opposing team.

Quite a few actually. The announcers give him so much praise based off past success even after he lets in 4-5 goals, which he has done quite a bit. Yes he has stolen some games, but he is nowhere near the level he is capable of.

Last time I've looked I found out Brasil has a worldcup going somewhere in July maybe we can have a brasil classic next... I think part of the WC flair has always been the outdoor conditions and going back to your earliest childhood memories in terms of snow, weather and difficulties. The NHL is running the risk or ruining the former Star and turning it into a cashcow. Have the big one every two years and make it more about the sport itself than all that bohowaboho event styled "main event" this isn't the WCW.

Yes I am saying that, he has looked shaky in almost every post season game, and if it wasn't for his team scoring ridiculous amounts of goals, the kings wouldn't have made it this far. Like I said quick has had a few very good games, but his overall performance this post season and most of the regular season has him looking Crawford. I'm not saying he isn't elite I'm saying he hasn't been playing at an elite level. On the subject of lundqvist, he hasn't been all too great either, but I think he's been better then quick

Quicks been good in a few games but he wasn't elite during the season or post season this year

Amazing to think that there is a whole generation that doesn't remember life without a recent Cup.

being a GM is a hard life of decisions. staying competitive is the primary goal. improving each year over the last. the decisions to "go for it" can cause long term consequences that can set a team back for many years if chosen poorly. ask the sharks about signing joe. some would consider him to be the " guy that changes everything" its all about percentages/chemistry/role play. a team of all-stars can win...but can they win it all? larry murphy was considered a wash out in toronto...hated by the fans...fills role in detroit and wins. point is....boyle can be a cog in the machine..."not the one", but a decisive role player. until nyquist/tatar arrived, the redwings have been a team with a few stars...and a pack of mid-level guys. they need to shed a few middling players and upgrade slightly on each position. is almquist/sproul/marchenko/ouellet better than kindl? is boyle/niskanen/markov better than lashoff? once you determine this to be true...you then weigh the variables. cost, trade, chemistry of position in system. would niskanen be a positive ( for the money) in a young team, being the go-to guy to bring outlet passes, run the 2nd powerplay? or would markov suit that position better? of course we can sit back and say yea...niskanen all day....but would that be worth it? younger guys would have to wait, be traded, or leave the wings for euro. i have decided to back away from stressing about moves the GM makes...the GM is doing what he can with what he can. i wanted OEL 5 years ago...i wish eaves wouldnt have been traded....i wanted burmistrov on a wing with pav...i wished we kept brunner.....i think almquist could be a great offensive guy....blah blah blah. it doesnt matter what i do, say, or wish. our gm will do what he thinks can work. we have to trust ken in his decisions just like we trust pavel with the puck. we have a great GM running the wings...he may be controvercial with some decisions ( see: cleary) but we dont know the locker room/office/payroll/personalitys, like he does. all i know is...we have never tanked a season to get the #1 draft pick. there is honor in life and being a wings fan, i hold that one in my pocket. ( im looking at you chicago/pittsburgh) thats my idea of a team buying the cup. (personally i think the first team out of playoffs gets #1 pick.= no more tanked seasons) EVER. finally...my overall opinion is that, dont trade the kids unless its almost a sure thing, boyle might be ok, niskanen might be great, kesler is a cancer, stasny would be epic. monster is good by me, ciao sammy, gonna miss you bert, cleary who?, quincey/kindl...well...you coulda shoulda woulda. and last but not least... prepare for mantha!

I can do whatever I want, just like I can say franzen is absolutely a top 6 forward who we have at a bargain price, for a longer contract then I would like (however it was signed before the stupid recapture penalty was implemented) Anyway this thread is dumb, pointless, and irritating
