Best signing yet. Hollands offseason acquisition is himself. His deadline acquisition will be Babs.

This is true to some extent. However, lets look at some of the people whom some fans wanted as GM of the Wings instead of Holland. Yzerman - So far, he has done well at Tampa Bay. Their roster this year looks better than last year. Except since he took over, they made the playoffs their first year, missed the second year and third year, and then made it last year only to get swept in the first round. Better than Holland? That remains to be seen. Ray Shero would be the only guy I would even consider being GM of the Wings. If his job is to ensure that we have a competitive team that competes for a championship every season, he has achieved his goal. If you are measuring accountability by championship or nothing, then there are 29 other GMs who are also failing.

We know. We get it. You love fighters. By people I'm assuming you mean me. Yes I do. He doesn't have any FA's or trade pieces available that are going to make any real impact on the team. They're going to tank. And since they're not going to be any good they've signed a lot of tough guys to put butts in seats.

I don't know if the tires can take another four years of being kicked.

"@AnsarKhanMLive: Wings have signed GM Ken Holland to a four-year extension through 2017-18." Hopefully babs is next.

Yes because the team he inherited won all those games....It obviously never changed....we never acquired or drafted anyone good....oh right let me guess....someone else gets all the credit for that...

Pretty expected, actually. I'm more curious about the Babcock extension to be honest. This upcoming off-season is a big one for KH, there are quite a few decent dmen on the market (assuming they get to UFA) and with mostly missing out on FAs the past couple of seasons he needs to shed the dead weight and get a solid player or two. I'm not the hugest fan of Hollands last couple of seasons, but I don't think it is as bad as some folks are suggesting. People are acting like he signed Cleary and Quincey INSTEAD of going after a better free agent, but the fact is, he missed out on the free agents and then signed Cleary and Quincey well after all the good FAs signed elsewhere. Sure, I'd rather have some youngsters in there instead, but I see fans kind of twisting it around a bit.

Stopped reading at the first quote. Put together what? Inherited is the proper word.

Agreed. It's a huge misperception some people have about the Kings because of their playoff seeding. It overlooks just how good that roster is, as well as the moves they made to improve it. The Kings have tremendous players like Kopitar, Doughty, Quick. A sniper like Jeff Carter (who's also very good defensively). Talented rookies like Pearson and Toffoli. Solid role players. They're big, physical, have guys with speed. PLUS they made the deadline acquisition of Gaborik, who had 14 goals and 22 points in 26 playoff games. With all that going for them, they still had epic battles through every round of the playoffs against great teams.

Some people won't be happy, no matter what happens... I have accepted that... It's sad but very true... I'm really happy that Kenny is going to remain with the club for the foreseeable future. Those of you that aren't... whatever... There would be 29 other teams lining up to pay Holland crazy amounts of money if he were let go, and for good reason. Same goes for Babcock, but I bet there would still be angry Wings fans if they signed him to an extension. While it's true that you can never please everyone, some people can never be pleased...

Thanks for calling me a blithering idiot it's not just missing out on fa's it's also stuff like bringing Cleary back twice, quincey, Sammy, among others. Holland can't let go, and that in turn helps free agents decisions to not want to come here. If he was building a team that would be good in the future I would be ok with him, but he constantly brings in guys who are useless to our team, and I've had enough. I've defended him for several years now, enough is enough

I'm so happy! I love mediocrity!!! Four year of barely making the playoffs with no trades or freer agent signings!!! Yessssssssssssssssssssss

Holland's job is extremely difficult but all that matters are the actual results, not how many tires he kicked. Dan Cleary tries as hard or harder than anyone on the team but I don't see people giving him a free pass because of all the plays he tried to make but failed. And Holland should have been working on a transition plan for Lidstrom's retirement for years. Him participating in the ridiculous Suter sweepstakes was a pretty good indication that he didn't have one. The reality is you don't replace Nick Lidstrom. You have to reevaluate and restructure the entire team. Holland keeps making moves like it's 2008.

4 years!? Wow. May need to hibernate in the meantime - its getting pretty lame hearing Holland's excuses every offseason.

That does not mean he's going to be fired at all lol. Red Wings fans HATE Holland right now and the guy just got an extension. Why? Because 99% of fans are blithering idiots who can't see past the next immediate season, so I'm sure the organization really couldn't care less what we think. EDIT: There's no option available better than Holland

But do you lose players like Lidström, Rafalski and Stuart over several years and still do absolutely nothing to bolster the defense? We should thank our lucky stars that hometown DeKeyser fell into Holland's lap or our defense would be an absolute s***fest.

It's real easy if you choose to do absolutely nothing. Being an active GM on the other hand is incredibly hard.

I'm sure he is already putting Mario's number on speed dial.no way he now re -signs with this team and I really don't blame him his job is getting harder and harder each year

Honestly, I'm disappointed. Holland has pretty clearly run out of ideas these last few seasons, so I don't have a lot of hope for significant changes to rebuild the franchise over the next 4 years. Who knows though. Maybe he'll finally realize the crap he's done lately isn't working? Maybe?? If I were Babcock I'd start looking to other teams.

    LGW Fit Club

I love the Fitbit, actually. It's the primary reason this has worked so well. I'm down 42 pounds now, and getting close to the goal -- want to hit the gym and build up muscle mass as the weather starts to cool. (That and adding equipment in the basement.) The Fitbit + syncing with MyFitnessPal (watch calorie intake) and MapMyFitness is FANTASTIC. Can't recommend it enough. Has made this process tremendously easy.
