What a beauty this kid is. Love it.

Mantha will be fine. He had to work through a lot to come into pro hockey for the first time, both being a kid and having had a broken leg. Despite that he had a solid season. Because of the hype, expectations for him were far to high. He'll come into next season knowing what to expect and be ready to kick some ass.

At forward: Mantha, Larkin, AA, Bertuzzi, Holmstrom, Callahan, Ferraro, Frk, Tvrdon, Pulkinnen, Nastasiuk, Nosek, Turgeon.... and there's a few more we drafted last year who could emerge yet. I'm much more content at forward than I am with the D. 12 forwards who performed well is a whole lineup. Did I say Frk performed well? Oops, I'm hoping he turns it around.

Just noticed we drafted 4 dmen in the last 3 years ... We need to draft 4 dmen in this years draft alone

    Kronwall in the Playoffs

Kronwall actually had less give-aways than Shea Weber, Myers, Chara, Hamonic, Byflugien, Klingberg, Subban, Burns, Karlsson, Wideman, Brodie, Karlsson, Yandle, Doughty, Markov, Trouba, Niskanen, Hjalmarsson, Lindholm, Hedman, Seabrook, Keith, Green, Mcdonagh, Girardi, Letang... and many more. The only number 1 D-men who turned the puck over less than him were OEL, Piertangelo, Giordano, Shattenkirk, Wisniewski, and Phaneuf. And those are totals, not counting injuries/time missed that guys like Giordano sustained.

I've watched pretty much every game he's played since he started at Mchigan..there's a reason why he's asked for in trade talk. Kid will be special

Yeah all that business sounds like horse s*** to me. I highly doubt a decorated coach is basing his decision on one players performance, Specifically a player who's never played in the NHL and isn't named Connor McDavid.

Mantha, Athanasiou, Bertuzzi and Nosek are not even close to being the same type player. Mantha is anything but expendable. In fact, he had a very reasonable year production wise for a first year pro. The only reason you along with others think he is a bust after one season of pro is because of all the hype. He was overhyped from the get go. Athanasiou is exceeding expectations but I'd be willing to bet both Andreas and Anthony have similar stat lines next season in Grand Rapids. How is drafting a center the safer bet? And why would we need a center over a defenseman? We can absolutely get a top line center or a top pair defenseman at 18. We have Larkin, Athanasiou, Sheahan, Turgeon, Nosek, Holmstrom, Glendening down the middle. Surely they can fill all 4 center positions for years to come. We drafted what? 6 centers in last years draft? I guarantee we focus on defense this year and our number one pick should be a defenseman. Anyway, I'm done with this. I have my opinion, you have yours. I'll talk Griffins but enough about the draft here. Also, I agree nyquististhefuture. Well said.

The Detroit Red Wings first round pick in 2014 was one of the top players in the NCAA this season not named Jack Eichel. Playing for his hometown team, the University of Michigan Wolverines, Dylan Larkin and Zach Hyman formed a formidable scoring duo, combining for 101 points between them, with Larkin scoring 15 goals and adding 32 assists in 35 games. His strengths include his skating and playmaking abilities, assets which came to the forefront during the 2015 World Junior Championship, where Larkin led the Americans in scoring with five goals in five games. Larkin suited up for the United States during the IIHF World Championship, but is still eligible to play up to three more seasons in the NCAA. It is likely, however, that he plays no more than one more season. Don't know about andrei vasilevsky being number 2

I lived in a house with a bunch of engineers during undergrad. They bitched about derformable solids and how messy our house was non stop, but they drank like fishes so we got along.

We drafted mostly all forwards last year, more than a few were big

People forget Backman went ba bye. Outside of Sproul, Ouellet, Marchenko, and Jensen... we don't have much. Heaven forbid even one of those guys busts, and suddenly we have no defensive depth in the prospect pool. Like you said we drafted almost all centers last year, and for a reason. I expect D-men to be a prime focus this year.

So we have Larkin at 5, Mantha at 18 and Pulkkinen at 26?... Two wingers and a center. No defense...

Saying those guys can fill all 4 center spots is like saying Dekeyser, Marchenko, Ouelett, Jensen, Smith, and Sproul can fill all 6 defense spots. Might turn out to be true, but very far from a sure thing. Bert makes it 1-0!

I don't know how I feel about people cursing Gordie's name when they get stuck in traffic on that bridge.

This got me thinking about how sad it will be when the arena with the coolest arena name in sports is replaced with some corporate garbage name.

We traded back to get Mantha, knowing that he would still be available. We got our guy and were able to add, what is turning out to be, another very good player. It is way too soon to give up on Mantha, I have no doubt he'll be a top 6 NHLer in a few years, and Bertuzzi may have been drafted to be a bottom 6 agitator but he's looking more and more like a top 6 guy. I guarantee we win that trade.

I'd say, during construction, a lot of the pipe connections will be 90 degree connecting joints. Also know as "elbows".

Good for him. He's a fantastic coach and he will do well with the kids.

He might be a defensive minded coach but It's moreso the Red Wings style as a whole. We're had defensive minded players since the 90's long before Babs came around. Yzerman, Draper, Federov to name a few. It's just a tradition passed down by the players. Z and D learned from their predecessors and they will pass it down to the young guys as well. Lead by example.

Can we all stop with the political discussion. I know that nobody means any harm, but this isn't really the place for it.
