    AA should be playing. Period.

Considering he was given a personal tryout (PTO) I dont think he had any trade value. If a team isnt willing to give him an actual contract I cant see them giving up assets from him. I don't know too much about McCollum, but based on where he was drafted he is either a bust, or he wasn't developed properly. For the record, I'm not against trading prospects. In retrospect I wish we traded him. What I dont want it to trade prospects with high upside for middle of the road players or impending UFA's.

Last week Tom McCollum reached an agreement with the Kings for a Professional Try Out. Full Article http://www.mlive.com/griffins/index.ssf/2016/08/tom_mccollum_former_red_wings.html

Couldn't agree more. Talent and old timer wisdom is there. Fingers crossed he holds up.

He was fine last year in the beginning too, he hit a wall around January though. It's about that longevity. The less he plays the longer he will last with those legs you saw yesterday.

Alrighty.. This thread is about AA but since we are talking about Zetterberg, I watched him skate yesterday in Stockholm, just for a few minutes. It was at the end of his workout. He looked spry and was going full stride, looking good doing it. I have no info or idea of his back issues but he has clearly been taking care of himself in the off-season. Conditioning is there, no doubt.

I never really put any players in the same pool or made any comparison between them. I've said that I still think Zetterberg is a top 6 talent and shouldn't be dropped to the 3rd line. I've also said being moved to the wing, rather than playing center should keep his legs going longer into the season.

Its not like the Wings let an NHL asset walk for free. The guy was a bust.

Which is exactly what we did. Traded Fleishmann and Matthias, but not Datsyuk and Homer. So what are you complaining about? You're advocating for the EXACT trade strategy employed by our current management. Also, I wouldn't go touting the Fleishmann trade as if it was some kind of ideal. We gained Lang, who underwhelmed in two seasons, and lost Fleishmann and a pick (that turned out to be Mike Green). We'd have been MUCH better off not making that trade. Which is EXACTLY my point. The grass isn't always greener when trading prospects for established talent.

Trouba isn't even the best d-man of the three. That's Shattenkirk, and there's a reason why he's being traded despite producing better than Pietrangelo since being traded to St. Louis. Everybody is so bonkers for a defenseman they've dramatically overestimated these guys' values. St. Louis, Anaheim, and Winnipeg ALL have better defenses than us. None of them have won anything. And these are the three guys they're looking to get rid of (supposedly). There's a reason for that. None of them make us much better, if at all.

Gamecenter + https://www.unblock-us.com/ = legit streaming option with no blackouts ever. Takes 5 minutes to setup for the year. Last I heard hockeystreams is shut down. Since it was a non legit site all those people that gave them money got nothing in return.

I want both Mantha and Athanasiou on the Wings' opening night roster, but I wouldn't count on either of them making the cut. Because this team is run by assholes. I mean, c'mon. We know how this works. We see the same scenario play out every October. "We'd rather have [insert kid who should be playing regular minutes as a Red Wing but isn't, because reasons] playing key minutes in the AHL. We don't see any point in him sitting in the press box or playing on the fourth line. We see him playing big minutes for the Griffins, playing in all situations, being a leader, a guy they count on. We feel that's what's best for his development. We feel that's the next step he has to take. We like to fart in our own mouths." Ott will probably get one of those two extra spots. (Blashill might even slot Ott higher than Jurco. Because reasons.) The other spot might go to Callahan. I dunno.
