2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp

Z2? Loved the Red and White Game. Svech looked good. Zadina too. Helm actually showed hands. Love the Alumni game. Watching a helmetless Mickey Redmond skate down the ice and score was priceless. He's still got it! -

I was not expecting much out of Svech because it seem like he's been passed up by other prospects. He was better than I thought he would be based on lower expectations, if that makes sense. That said, I think he involves himself in the play well and seems to be sound positionally, hence the rebound goal. I like Cholowski. He seems to have a higher ceiling than Hronek IMO. I really see top pair potential there. Hronek seemed up to the task, but didn't "wow" me. Sulak got a long look at camp to. He didn't look bad. Ras looked more "polished", but seemed to me like he could have dominated, if he wanted to. Maybe needs to bulk up? Does seem like he makes the roster. I know ur high on Veleno. He looks like he has real potential, and isn't as far away as I thought. 2 years tops. Zadina didn't impress me at all during the Tournament. I expected him to be better considering he was playing against kids, most of whom aren't NHL ready. He looked better in camp, but I think he could use some time in GR first. The 2 most underrated guys IMO were Smith and Saarajarvi. Smith craves action, and gets involved in the play whether in the O or D zone. Wherever the puck is, he seems to be there. Very strong on the puck when he has it. much improved over last year. Saarajarvi was very much under the radar behind Cholowski and Hronek, but is very underrated IMO. Seemed to understand the position and have the ability to overcome limitations. Future NHLer IMO. -

I'm referring to Z and the organization when i talk about "language". LGWers can (and do) say whatever they want. -

Wait, I'm confused. What's concerning? Are we concerned about the title of this thread being incorrect/misleading? Because I think that's splitting hairs. Or are we concerned about the league being unhappy with the situation? If we're concerned about the league being unhappy...they can pound sand. They've never tried to bring the hammer down on an LTIRement case before and I can't imagine they'd break tradition for this one. Or are we concerned that Zetterberg is actually straight-up retiring, rather than going into LTIRement? As far as I'm aware, he's going the LITRement path and no one in the organization or in the media has said otherwise. -

In the spirit of full disclosure, I’ve never set foot on hfboards THANK YOU VERY MUCH. So if there’s someone Bettying it up over there they’re a GD IMPOSTER. I just took a Hockey Break (tm). Detroit Red Wings, unlike Zetterberg, I CAN’T QUIT YOU. Rest easy, my dude—I’m still kickin’. I think? -

Going out a legend. I feel so thankful that I got to witness his career from start to finish, as he stayed loyal to the red and white through good times and bad. I hope his long-term quality of life is tolerable and i'll never forget the sacrifices he made for the good of the team, the fans, and the city of Detroit. Hank and Pavel in their prime was such a gift to us, and to the sport, and he will go down in NHL history among the all-time elite. Thanks for everything Z, this is always tough as a fan to see your captain go, and a new generation to start to take form. First it was Yzerman and Lidstrom, then Pavel and Hank, next, Larkin and Zadina? Time to drive forward with the youth and LGW! This season won't be the same without him. -

Thanks for the good memories. This came out of nowhere this summer. He seemed to be doing well the last few seasons. I guess a hockey career is just like life. You never know when it's over. -

Watched Holland's presser. He made it clear that this became a real possibility last season and everyone had been trying to keep the whole thing as quiet as possible. It's a good reminder that we as fans don't know half of what's really going on behind the scenes at any given time. "WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU SIGN VANEK?!" soon gives way to "Oh, Z's probably done and Vanek would provide some veteran leadership and could help fill the scoring void Z would leave behind. That makes sense." -

Thanks for everything Z!! You gave us everything you had, all the time. So grateful. So many great memories you have given us all. Your PK shift in the 3rd period in game 4 of the 2008 SCF, against the Pens, 5 on 3, will always be the "bar" for what TOTAL SELFLESS EFFORT represents. Thanks again -

The good news is that his back is fine for everyday life, but when he pushes himself to train, it flares up. He should be able to lead a normal life, which is the most important thing. Thanks for the great memories Z! -

Yeah. I dunno. 12 packs of beer are pretty commonplace too. So, maybe it was 12+. ...but you can get a 30 pack of Lebatt Blue for the price of a 12 pack of something "better". Guess it depends on his tastes and such. I'm sure a case isn't out of the realm of possibility. Maybe not EVERY night. ...but regularly. Sure. I can see it. Couple of months ago when I wasn't in such a great place I was putting back 4-6 beers or a combo of a few beers plus a cocktail or two nightly. Thankfully, my ship has righted, but... I can see how it could get to a place that was much much worse. It sucks that depression has such as stigma attached to it. It sucks that you're just supposed to "figure things out" or "move on" or "man-up." I know I'm a huge smart ass on here a lot but if anyone ever just needs an ear. I will listen.
