He maybe should've seeked advice from Suter before letting "the lady" tell him where to play. Is what it is though. He's got some money and happy woman.

If Yzerman was seriously considering acquiring Point this year, I doubt he would have thrown money at Nemeth and Filppula. His moves to me are reflective of another tank year. Adding Point now would be outside that vision.

He's an RFA, he's not getting 9 or 10 million dollars. And while that team was an offensive juggernaut, it's just as likely that good players playing with other good players is a net positive for all involved. Kinda like how ALL of Mantha, Larkin, and Bertuzzi's numbers increased when they started playing together. It's just as likely that a fair portion of Kucherov's points can be attributed to playing with Point as well. I'd trade ANY of Zadina, Veleno, or Seider plus our 2020 1st (conditional to protect if it's a top 3-5 pick) for Point, and basically any of our mid-tier prospects or roster players as well.

The only thing that makes me hesitate is he's only scored 90+ once, and that was on a team that totaled 62 wins and 128 points. Not saying he can't be a consistent 90+ point player, but his previous years were 66 and 40. I believe the team he played with had a ton to do with his 92 points. I feel that on most other teams he goes back down to 60-70 points, which, to me, lessens his trade value. But you're right, someone will pay up for him because of this one year (same with Marner,) I hope it's not Yzerman. I do not want to give up either of Zadina or Veleno OR our 2020 1st round pick, PLUS pay him $9M-$10M on the chance that he'll get 90-100 again playing with Larkin, AA and Mantha instead of Stamkos, Kucherov and Hedman. If it'll cost what you are saying, I'll pass.

I said a TOP prospect. You're not getting a 23 year old, cost controlled, 90+ point center for cast aways. You're going to pay a premium, which means a 1st (which I hope Yzerman is smart enough to make conditional) and a top prospect (Zadina, Veleno, Seider).

Disagree. Rasmussen was pegged as a one-trick pony, a power-play/net-front guy who cleans up around the net and doesn't do much else. Easy to clean up around the net as a 6'6" player in the OHL. NHL? Another story. Seider did well in a men's league. He's dynamic, there's a ton to like about him. Projecting him as a good two-way top-pairing defenseman doesn't seem like a stretch.

I dunno man. I expected more than this. If Ken Holland had reached on a draft pick, signed a 35 year old former Wing who isn't very good, a depth defenseman, and an AHL goalie people would be losing their minds. In fact, it was exactly those kinds of moves that made people sour on Ken Holland in the first place. But now that Yzerman is doing it everyone seems to have years worth of patience. Just saying it seems like a pretty lackluster offseason for a team that's supposedly trying to get out of the basement soon.
