Remember that time Holland signed Mikael Samuelsson to a 2 year, 3 million AAV contract and everyone around here LOST THEIR MINDS? That was after Samuelsson had posted three consecutive years in which Samuelsson had either scored 50 points, or was on a 50 point pace. That's a track record Robby Fabbri can't even boast. His previous contract with Vancouver after posting numbers much closer to Fabbri's current production? 2.5 million AAV. AND those were both UFA contracts. Guys who score like Fabbri are a dime a dozen. Or how about when we signed Thomas Vanek (the first time) for 2 million dollars after three of the worst seasons of his career (all of which were better than anything Fabbri has ever done)? People loved that contract right? Then we signed him again (as a UFA) after a year away from Detroit in which, yet again, out performed anything Fabbri has ever done. This time for 3 million. And the crowd went wild, right? Nope. UFAs who outperform Fabbri don't literally grow on trees. But they might as well. So giving that money to a guy with as many question marks as Fabbri has, and as little leverage as Fabbri has, is definitely an overpayment.

injuries are a concern for both players. However Fabbri gets a significant raise because of the gumption and cup level character. Mantha has never displayed character like this. Get away from the front of the net if ur not gonna deflect the pucks with character

So the team with the 1st pick moves up to the 0th pick?

He got a big raise because of his CHARACTER. Yzerman loves guys with CHARACTER. Fabs may not be fast, may not be big, may not be that astute defensively, may not even be that skilled. But boy does he show real CHARACTER out there. He could probably CHARACTER a puck into the back of the net if he just CHARACTERED a little more. Throw a weak check that takes you out of position? No worries, just put some CHARACTER on it. Id give Mantha a massive raise too if he showed some CHARACTER but he doesnt CHARACTER nearly as much as Fabs does. Imagine an entire team of Fabbris CHARACTER. Now that would be something.

Yes, admitting that he got maybe $450000 more than the ideal contract is the same as 'YzErMaN iS bAsIcAllY kYlE DuMbAss aNd tHiS DeAl iS tErRibLe AnD WiLl wReCK tHE TeAmS nEgOtIaTiOnS WiTh BeRtUzZi aNd mAnThA hE sHoUlD hAvE GiVeN HiM 1,5 MilLiOn oR tOld HiM tO GTFO'

Buying out Cleary's contract was discussed ad nauseam. Do you want to start talking about buying out Fabbri's already?? That was fast

You're kidding me right? What you meant to say was: Jacob Blake just wanted to live a long and peaceful life unmolested by racially biased cops. I don't want this to become about politics though. Lets keep this on hockey and diversity in the NHL. I'm glad you mentioned Seattle, as we are the first team with female scouts and about 40% of upper management is female, but we do have to do a better job at getting people of color in the room and into coaching positions and such. Seeking racial justice in the sport i love is trolling now too? Why don't you tell me what isn't trolling so I know

I have been around for a while and I've yet to see you "agree" with anyone. Stop being such a baby all of a sudden. You have an obvious anti-Yzerman bias and have the gall to say anyone that doesn't see this as a bad contract is some sort of Steve slappy. Why would I waste my time?

The capfriendly link I posted earlier shows that most RFA's at Fabbris age (24) signing for 2,3-2,7 m doesn't reach his production. I think you overplay the injury history. The guy is young and there's no reports suggesting he has lingering problems with his ALC injuries. Also, Its two injuries on the same knee. Not both.

    1. It's not high. You're high. 2. Which is why you had to go the opposite right? "Atta boy Stevie"? Like this deal was some kind of albatross to be worn like some osmium shackle? I don't know why it's so hard to admit you pounced on this signing like some crazy ex girlfriend of Yzerman's and are still trying to ride that train into the ocean. At least @mackel is impressed. Think about that. The guy who thinks Zadina's a Czech beer-leager in less than two years? He agrees with everything you say. Edit: or just re-read the @Akakabuto post above

Why would the NHL cancel games? They played during World War II. More recently, they played while there was an unpopular war happening in Iraq. They played after mass shootings (too many to name in the last 10 years). The show goes on. If NBA players want to cancel games, that's their choice. The NHL doesn't need to apologize for actually playing games. They are allowed that choice as well. Liberals need to stop attacking anyone who may have a different opinion or who is not as passionate about civil rights as they are. I have things I care about deeply that I know someone else might not. I don't attack people for it. The world isn't divided into civil rights activists and racists. Also, they talk about racism before every national anthem during these bubble games. Evander Kane probably isn't watching since his team didn't qualify for the playoffs. So the league is not ignoring the issue completely. He's the same idiot who criticized Crosby for not talking about civil rights more. Whatever happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type.

You're nicer than me. With his track record, injury history, and RFA control, I would have bridged him at $1.5 AAV. It's beyond comical that Yzerman handed him nearly double this lol didn't even try to bring him to arbitration... I'm starting to think we have a serious Illitch problem - not a GM problem - cause Yzerman is doing the same crap that Holland did.

They get offered to each teams from the bottom up, only being able to choose one, Detroit will choose their 2021 1st rounder and then Ottawa takes the 2020 2nd. ...and in other news, ocean front property value in Nebraska is at all time high! www.nebraskaoceanfront.com No, the only round impacted by the elimination of teams is the 1st round. Each subsequent round is sorted by where the team finished in the regular season. We have the #32, #45 and #58 in the 2nd round.

The comparable players you're talking about probably aren't RFAs without arbitration rights, haven't blown their knees out twice, and played only 90ish games over three seasons. Excuse us for thinking maybe those things mean he should make a little less than average. And speaking for arbitration rights, that's one big difference between Mantha/Bertuzzi and Fabbri. They actually have MORE leverage than he did. So again, if you think that the agents for Mantha/Bert aren't going to press for the absolute max, given what they just saw Fabbri get, you're pretty naive.
