Ive felt for years that Dboss is overrated as a defensive center. Hes the best we have, but hes not among best in the league. Been saying this for a couple seasons now, but i want more good bottom PK forwards like Helm or Glendog, that can take over for Larks on the PK. Larks is better used 5v5 and on the PP where he can do what hes meant to do and score.

Pelikka, Reinbacher and Willander are all RHD. If Yzerman goes D at 9 (or he could project that one of them would fall out of the top 10 and trade back?) one of those could start to fill that cupboard. Although we do need the best C we can get. I read somewhere that Yzerman likes Will Smith (the hockey player, although he may enjoy getting jiggy with it once in a while too! ) but he'd have to trade up a bit to draft him probably. There are a couple of vet UFA RHD available to fill this years gap as well. Klinberg, Hamonic to name a couple. Maybe in the Debrincat trade, Yzerman can acquire Hamonic's UFA rights and get him signed before July 1? Also, I am thinking we need a better 1B goalie. What about Vladar out of Calgary? Might cost a 4th to get. He's young enough, plus 2 years left on a contract, to split time with Husso, until Cossa (hopefully) rises through the ranks.

We would be harder to play against. That's for sure. Would love to have Reaves and Mazur fill that 12 spot for injuries/nights against tough guy teams. The cupboard is bare there.

Yah, missing out on Hughes set us back 5 years. He's w HOF player. But look at Zadina as an asset to get Debrincat and it's easier to stomach. Why Zadina is wanted by Ottawa is whole nother story. But Zadina (solid bottom 6 LW) + pick 17 (solid 2nd/3rd Line RW in 4 years) + pick 43 (50 career games in the NHL) for Debrincat (solid 2nd line RW) looks like a good move. Debrincat's possession metrics are off the chart. I hate minus players as you all know, but Debrincat looks to be a guy who would turn minuses around quickly with a good 2 way centerman. Larkin is just that.

Is there anything stopping Lalonde from playing them together? Raymond-Larkin-Debrincat Not enough puck for everyone maybe? But 30-40 goals each for the wingers and 100+ points for Larkin wouldn't be bad actually.

Yzerman should do his magic and trade up from the #17 to guarantee that the unnamed prospect is there. If not, I guess Debrincat plays one more season in Ottawa and comes here UFA. It's a stupid stipulation though having a certain prospect there. No other team that Debrincat will sign long term with can give them a higher pick than 17. Just do the deal. If we trade the 17, then what do we acquire Konecny and Krug with? Boston's 1st? Zadina, 17, 43 for Debrincat. Johansson, Boston 1st for Krug, Konecny. Find the right backup goalie and possibly a veteran D (OEL or Klingberg?) and the playoffs are in our sights!

Rumors like this are always exaggerated. ”2023 1st or a 2024 1st” becomes ”2023 1st AND a 2024 1st”. Hell, it might even be Yzerman who has a particular player in mind for pick 17 and told Ottawa the pick will be next year if the player is still there.

Yzerman is in a strong negotiating position here. The entire world knows he's interested in Konecny. Ottawa/Debrincat start asking for too much and he pivots to Philly and lets them figure it out with some other team.
