Wanna get even more frustrated? The playoff projections are based on this dude's individual player rankings (i.e. the more "good" players you have - according to his model - the greater your likelihood of success). Trouble is, his player ranking model so seriously overvalues offense, and undervalues usage and quality of competition, that it rates Shayne Gostisbehere and Jeff Petry higher than Moritz Seider, and Olli Maatta higher than Lucas Raymond. But we're all dummies for not being smart enough to see how right he is.

    Waiver Wire

Dont normally comment on waiver bros, but I really like how Axel Jonnson-Fjalby plays. WPG just waived him. The Jets have been losing their best depth guys to waivers all year this year cause of Logan Stanley (who theyre trying to trade) jamming up the roster. Looks like AJF is the next to go. Id claim him if we have a spot. 26 yo LW. Plays a very fast up tempo game, and is real good on the forecheck.

    Eddog vs. Seider

I love David Perron. He's the prototypical "glue guy". He was once a very good hockey player, now he's still a decent hockey player, but he brings the right attitude every single day on and off the ice. He's basically Shoresy. He talks a ton of sh*t, is dirty as hell when necessary, will do basically anything for his teammates, and doesn't accept losing.

I gained some respectfor Perron actually when he stuck up for Larkin. F ing Frenchie doing un frenchie un glover things. Went from "will be glad" to "might want him back" when he's gone.

Chychrun is really good. I wanna hate on him because everyone's always talking him up and it annoys me. But he's legit. Oft-injured. But legit. But what you're saying about Hanifin is why I've always really liked him and why I think I'd be more excited about getting him than I would Chychrun. Seider's playing the hardest minutes in the league. It's cool that he can take it, but it's a ridiculous situation. You can hard-match him against the other team's top talent, but the other team's gonna have other good players and we don't really have other good matchup defensemen. That's not a recipe for success. We're playing with fire. Add Hanifin and Edvinsson and all of a sudden we're loaded with workhorses. (Though, Edvinsson's probably in GR for the rest of the season.) Seider's life gets easier. Chiarot's life gets easier. Everyone's life gets easier. Except our opponents'. A future top four of Edvinsson-Seider / Hanifin-ASP could be filthy.

These days I think packages are just too hard to predict because each team's cap and roster situation is so different. For instance, one of the reasons why Arizona got such a modest return for Chychrun (compared to expectations) is because they weren't willing to take a cap dump in return so they had to settle for less. I think it's more useful to think about it in terms of what's in play vs. what isn't. All of the assets you mentioned are all in play (plus a few others I'd imagine). And all the "untouchable" assets I listed above. I think you're in the ballpark but the actual perimeters of the trade are pretty hard to figure.

Walman's the biggest Chad, followed by Debrincat. Gostisbehere and Chiarot will turn you gray.

These bloggers have the exact wrong approach. "Midseason report card" is beyond trite. And i dont respect their takes. If i want to read something like that ill go to a real journalist at the athletic or something. What they should be writing is articles like "wings forwards ranked by chadness" or "3 current wings that will turn you gray". I would be posting those on here all day and fiercely debating them.

I used to subscribe to the Hockey News once upon a time. Until that rag stopped being about hockey like 10 years ago.

Anybody else aware of (and completely annoyed by) these fashion stories - disguised as hockey stories - that keep popping up in media outlets? The Athletic is running an "All-Star Weekend Style Rankings" article right now which basically just shows pictures of NHL players looking idiotic on a red carpet. I literally JUST care about the hockey part, which is why I subscribed to (what I thought) was a sports media company. An article about the clothes that hockey players wear is still a fashion story. Similarly a story about a doctor that molests gymnasts is a sexual assault story, not a gymnastics story. Me: I love sports, I think I'll pay $9.99 per month to get the most in-depth coverage of the leagues and players I'm most entertained by. The Athletic: Thanks for the money, here's a story about breast cancer.
