BlackhawksFan 4 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Oh My God. Ken Holland is a genius. 29 other GMs are stuck in their stupid bulls***: RFA contracts, overpaying players. And Ken Holland proves once again that he is far and away in a league of his own when it comes to hockey team management. Detroit fans are so spoiled. Tiribulus 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 My eyeballs almost fell outta head when I saw this earlier. I would have been here sooner, but I had to work all day. Can you imagine the line possibilities now? I've already been to the Pens forums to thank them for being so helpful.
greenrebellion 415 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 The worst part about this signiing is that anything but a stanley cup will be a dissapointment....wait, isn't that always the case with the Wings?!

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 don't forget to find a spot for leino in your proposed lines, people. Honestly, I'll be surprised if he makes the cut out of camp. He's got a ton of potential, but he'll need time to adjust, imo.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 This deal is not all it's cut out to be, Hossa is essentially a full season Rent-a-Player which will mess with people's heads, his own dedication to the team etc. knowing he will be gone after one season, plus he's a disappearing act in the playoffs except against Osgood who he owns. Sundin is a heart and soul leader, a Swede, and a right-handed shot and would've been a much better choice and I'd have paid $1 million or two more to get him for one year (why is Sundin looking for 2 years if he's not even sure he wants to come back for NEXT year?!)... Wrong on every level. Hossa had 26 points in the playoffs (third overall), and seven of those points came against Osgood who he evidently "owns." That means Hossa still had 19 points in the three playoff rounds prior to the finals. How in the hell is that a disappearing act? Hossa was BY FAR the Penguins best player against the Red Wings. I like Sundin and all, but there is no way he compares to Marian Hossa at this point. Hossa is a complete, two-way player, who also happens to be eight years younger than Sundin. If the rumors are true about Sundin getting offers for ten million dollars per season, why would you want a LESS productive player for MORE money? Lets say the Red Wings did sign Sundin for 9-10 million, you can pretty much say goodbye to Val Filppula this summer. With Hossa's contract, the Red Wings still have the cap space to keep Filppula, Chelios, Mac/Downey. This deal is all it is being made out to be and more. The best team in the NHL just signed the top free agent available for well-below market value. Hossa > Sundin every day of the week.
dicksmack 33 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 It was fun going around to other team's boards to check out the reaction. The most notable quote I saw was: "short of a plane crash, the wings will be freakin' unstoppable."

Rivalred 630 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 don't forget to find a spot for leino in your proposed lines, people. Isn't it the philosophy that everyone and anyone has to work for a spot on the roster pretty much?

Barrie 900 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Wow!! I can't believe Hossa, at this point in his career, agreed to a one year deal. I guess we're going for the Cup again next year.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Wow. What a steal for the Wings. And a one year deal? Again, Wow!!!! The Pittsburgh boads are in turmoil right now, calling Hossa a traitor and they hope he dies (no, seriously) and finding it unbelievable that someone wouldn't want to be in the same room to be ecliped by the shadow that is cast by the wonderful, amazing, sensational, second coming of Christ Sidney Crosby. Was Hossa drafted and bred by the Penguins? As it was mentioned, he was a trade deadline acquisition who had no obligation to re-sign, just like Stewie had no obligation to re-sign with the Wings. Can anyone really blame Hossa for wanting to win? If you can't beat em, join em. Welcome to Hockeytown, Marion Hossa!!!!
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Wow! I just got back from work, and when someone told me Hossa was moved to the West, I assumed it was Edmonton. I guess something must have changed in a day. I doubt we'll have him for any more than a year with Hank's contract coming up, so we better use him well while we have him. We're not locks to win the Cup, because winning the Cup is difficult, but we're certainly the heavy favorite right now.

#18 the _Hoss_ 2 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) First of all I would like to say HI to everybody and start with correcting some FALSE information : Marian Hossa was born in the Czechoslovak republic (which broke apart in 1992) in Trencin - a town that was in the Slovakian part of the common state and now is in Slovakia. So Hossa was never Czech, moreover he always played for Slovakia ( for example the Torino Olypics and WCH 2004). I'm sorry but we feel insulted when someone just mistakes our players with others. Here some links with solid info : (yeah, some "professional" sites don't have that) NHL.com Player Profile Yahoo answer Border map Slovak pic from ASG08 - Gaborik,Chara and the Hoss I'm just happy that he is here !!! (Maybe even hopin' to keep the #18) oh and some spice - Edited July 2, 2008 by #18 the _Hoss_

Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted July 2, 2008 from Tomas Kopecky, who works out with Hossa in Slovakia during the summer. Could Hossa be the player that makes Kopecky better? Could hossa give Koko that extra push to become the player we all want him to be?

norrisnick 1 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I read on the pens board that hossa has a sore knee and had several problems with it before I sure hope he stays healthy the time he's in detroit Did it look like it bothered him during the playoffs? Hossa is a workhorse. I'd put his general durability just a hair behind Lidstrom.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Did it look like it bothered him during the playoffs? Hossa is a workhorse. I'd put his general durability just a hair behind Lidstrom. I'd give Hossa the edge, to be honest. There were times during this past run where Nick showed his age. Not glaringly, mind you, but time is slowly beginning to take its toll on him.
