Leino to Flyers for Tollefsen and a 5th Rounder

I like this deal. We really dont need Leino after seeing what Millers done, Tollefson used to be a pretty promising bruiser on the blueline, certainly cant hurt to have him around.

Any idea if Leino will play for Philly tonight?

I don't think so.

"FYI, Leino will not play tonight -- even if he arrives before game time, I am told." link

After all the patience this club has shown for prospects, how the f*** can we sell Leino down the river so early? I'm really disappointed and think this will come back to haunt the Wings some day. If we weren't in such a damn cap crunch this never would have happened, gj Williams.

Wow, this is all somehow not something to be that excited about. Fricken Leino, what does it take to apply yourself and live up to your potential? How many chances can a guy get? How many other players in the league would have killed for that opportunity? Obviously he is not made of the same stuff as someone like Cleary.

I was thinking the same thing.....

Also about him being the flyers Lebda... I live in the philly area and are surrounded by Philly fans... They do not like one single player on there team lol.... For the most a lot of philly fans will pick a part every single on of there players... so take it with a grain of salt...

Half of my buddies that are flyers fans say Hartnell is there favorite player... Thats over Carter and Richards lol...

fer sure...hell, they don't even like santa claus there

a 5th? I know Leino had flaws in his game, but he wasn't that bad.

His trade value is close to zero right now.. it's unfortunate. I would be okay with losing Leino for a 2nd or even a 3rd round pick. But a 5th is a 0.01% chance of turning into something worthwile, even with the Wings history of turning those late picks into stars.

How hard is this for people to understand. Lieno is an awful, awful, awful skater. It has nothing to do with his "skill" or "potential". The fact of the matter is that until leino drastically improves the fundamentals of skating he will never be an NHL player. He might be able to get away with it over in Europe, but not in the NHL and it has been exposed.

Funny, you ask a question as if you have no idea, then answer it in the next sentence.

Playing for Philly ought to toughen Leino up.

I bet when we play them next year, he'll beat up Zetterberg and Datsyuk in the same game.

How much time will pass until he bolts to Finland with his tail between his legs?

I have a feeling Lebda or Meech might be traded thiis year. This also might be an insurance policy in case Lilja just cant hack it anymore. Lilja was our crease clearing tough d man before the concussion and Tollefson plays the same game except he's tougher in pretty much all ways.

With some instruction from the wings maybe Ole will end up turning out really strong defensively like Lilja did after a few years here?

Toughest Wings team since the late 90's.

May, Janik, Lilja, Newbury, Tollefsen, Bertuzzi and Ericsson. Holy s***! This is the Wings we're talking about, right?

Now there's no excuse not to goon it up with someone. We have the personnel for it. s***, we're one more tough guy away from challenging Philly to a brawl.

What a great way to start off the day. And people always complain that I'm not positive enough. :P

Great move Kenny. I support this decision in a positive way.

SWEET.

Tollefson is a big guy and can fight. Don't know anything else much cause I only remember seeing him play a few times.

Well, that's all that matters in a guy, right?

I'm going to spend this entire thread lauding Kenny Holland for this move.

What a terrific GM he is. I'm very positive about this deal. Great job.

I'm not happy to see Leino go or anything, but at least we got something for him. He wouldn't have cleared waivers.

Still, and I hate to be the one to say it, but I kind of wish Kenny would have had a nice talk with Maltby...

Now, when Lilja comes back, we'll either need to trade a regular, or waive 3 players instead of two. May + Lebda is not enough salary.

Does this mean that we can stop with the whining about how he has so much potential and we shouldn't give up on him?

For a guy with so much potential, he was a complete disappointment. Leino was missing things needed to succeed in Detroit. He was missing defensive ability, skating ability, and a work ethic.

He'll be back home in Finland or in the KHL next year. We won't have to worry about him coming back to bite us in the ass. Guy would have to have teeth to bite us.

This is a great trade- if only to get rid of some of the trash.
