edicius 3,269 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 (edited) From the DRW official Twitter feed: Lidstrom confirmed that Barry Trotz said 'please don't retire' while in the handshake line following the NSH series. Although, I suppose you could take that one of two ways: Trotz believes Lids deserves a better sendoff than a 5-game first round loss Trotz secretly thinks Lidstrom is declining fast and would be a detriment to the Wings and therefore, an asset to the Preds I've always liked Trotz, so I'd like to think it's the former. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 I believe that Trotz was serious. Everything he has said previously indicates to me that he looks up to Lidstrom as much as his lack of a neck allows. 16 anthonyn66, RedWingfaninCO, Detroit \# 1 Fan and 13 others reacted to this

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 Funny, I was thinking the same thing to myself yesterday. "Trotz...pretty classy." Actually, if memory serves, I think I woke up with that thought in my head.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 I'd respect him more if he publically called out the fans in the series for acting like classless fools. Chanting you suck in a line where Zetter forgives Weber and they both act classy should be a learning moment for the trashy Preds fans.

mmamolo 287 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 Personally, I think Trotz said that to Lidstrom because he realizes that if Lidstrom returned it would make it that much more difficult (cap-wise) for the Wings to sign Suter. This is all strategy and posturing by Trotz. Ok, in all seriousness yeah it's a nice thing to say 1 Wingzman91 reacted to this
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 Trotz knows Lidstrom is good for the game. He is a fan of the Perfect Human. Aren't we all? I like ol' Barry NoNeck. 1 LidsFan reacted to this

TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 As I said in the game day thread of game 5 when this was first mentioned, it's a very classy act by Trotz. The guy is a darn good coach, and imho, it's a crime that he doesn't have a Jack Adams trophy yet. I honestly believe that it was purely him being classy and not trying any gamesmanship. Kudos to him. 1 LidsFan reacted to this
rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted April 24, 2012 Am I the only one who doesn't really care that he said this? We all love TPH and want him to stay for at least another year, that doesn't make us all classy. Classiness aside, it was just a nice thing to say is all. 1 Jasper84 reacted to this
brett 1,029 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 When your in that kind of environment your not thinking of plotting any strategy trying to make his team better next year or the wings easier to beat. He generally wants lids back. Thats got to mean a lot to lids coming from another coach. Nice to see 1 LidsFan reacted to this
Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 Trotz also loves Homer and that's why he has Hornqvist. 1 Tim.D reacted to this
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 Thats a class act I still believe it was a very clean series minus the Weber-incident and I have a feeling they might win it all this year. Fully expecting Babcock would say something similar if it came down to Weber being 41 old.
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 What did you think Trotz was going to say? "You suck and we just beat your team's ass?" I think every coach in the league respects Lidstrom. Same with every player probably.
The Secret 304 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) ...few people know that before he became a coach that Trotz was in fact Ram Man! Anyway, Always liked Trotz. He's stuck with his team all this time and that shows a lot. Classy thing for him to say to the greatest Defenseman of all time. Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted April 25, 2012 Nice of Trotz to say about Lids, but his post game BS with the Weber/Z ordeal pissed me off so Juggernaut Trotz can eat some man sausage. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Have you been to the joe? We do that too. That's just how fans act during the game. Not all of them. I get razzing the goalies or other players in-game. Where I live there used to be a minor league hockey team and every time after they scored, a small group of fans did the exact same chant. And they could easily be saying things that are much worse. But you don't do it right after a game or series ends when the other team probably did little/nothing to piss you off or classless. That's not right what they did. Just because fans might do what they do doesn't necessarily make it right or appropriate all the time. As for Coach Trotz, I've always liked him, have never had anything against the Nashville team themselves either. Sure the Weber incident with Zetterberg stinks, he had a major mental brainfart, but you'd have to do a lot to convince me that he is a dirty player or consistent cheap artist. I'd still take him on my team in a heartbeat. Great words by Trotz there. Edited April 27, 2012 by SouthernWingsFan
