Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 its like Kenny has held his hand up and admitted he made a complete b##ls up with the signing of Sammy. If he had given him a deal worth $1.5m per year then maybe it wouldn't have been so bad but $3m a year was a major overpayment. 3 aflac9262, Kmahrle83 and Nev reacted to this

Tr!PoD#19 524 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 Shame it had to end this way. I will always appreciate what Sammy did for us in our deep playoff runs. 2 55fan and Nev reacted to this
wings87 1,290 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 Might the Caps be interested? Only if he is free. I still think Sammy has something left in the tank and can help certain teams, whoever there are no teams who will be willing to take on his contract. For me, it was more the 2 years and the NTC than the actual salary, although that was a huge overpayment for a guy no one else seemingly wanted. 1 Nev reacted to this

I still think Sammy has something left in the tank and can help certain teams, whoever there are no teams who will be willing to take on his contract. The Wings have already paid the majority of his contract for the year. He's a UFA at the end of the season. If someone actually wanted him and thought he could help, I don't think the money would be a deal breaker. 1 puckbags reacted to this

Guest Playmaker Report post Posted January 25, 2014 The even better news of this story is that Franzen is returning Sunday, making this move necessary. Hope he can play with the fire he did before the injury. 2 Hey man nice shot! and haroldsnepsts reacted to this

For a team to take on his salary they would have to be convinced that he can help make the playoffs, and if that where the case Kenny would have found a trade partner instead of waiving him. puckbags 863 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 I wouldn't be suprised it he ends up back in Vancouver. He did score 30 goals playing with the Sedin's the majority of the time so there is some chemistry there. Sammy did some good stuff for the organization in his previous tenure here but this time around it was pretty terrible. Good luck to him.

I can't believe Holland gave him a raise AND the NTC on that term. I'll be surprised if anyone picks him up. Sammy waived, Tootoo waived. Doesn't provide much relief but at least Holland is admitting his mistakes and starting to put his awful signings from that offseason behind him. 1 GoWings1905 reacted to this

ogreslayer 1,069 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 it gives us $100,000 cap relief but a much needed roster spoy. this is interesting thou as many reports say he wont be claimed on waivers, I got a hunch that Kenny has sounded some teams out about Sammy, they wont take on his salary but may thru waivers. He could do a contender a job on their 3/4 line maybe. I think John Tortorella has a better chance of winning a Nobel Peace Prize than Sammy has of getting picked up on waivers. 2 TheXym and BadgerBob reacted to this

DickieDunn 2,571 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 2 things: Once Weiss is off IR, they will be over the cap unless they can clear cap on a more permanent basis. This move only allows them to keep a kid up a little longer. I ran it through capgeek's armchair GM feature. If he was scoring 20 goals, they probably wouldn't want to move him. If they did want to move him, players generally are willing to waive the NTC. As bad as he's been, nobody is going to want to trade for him even if he didn't have the NTC.
