8 Legged RedWing 367 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) Going to have to pull a Randy Carlyle but I didn't like the compete level tonight. The pace looked like a regular season game and was pretty boring for about 57 minutes. Gotta win game 4. mtuhockey7 23 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Another day, another lackluster effort. Halfway to the golf course boys, you better wake up and FAST! Not sure what Babs has to do to light a fire under some of these guys but they definitely need to start putting it on net and hoping for some bounces, it's how we got our goal in Game 2 and we need to get in Tuukka's head a bit. He blocks everything he sees so somebody needs to get up front and raise holy hell. We're playing timid hockey and timid hockey doesn't win in the playoffs. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Wings shut out in embarrassing fashion on home ice to go down 2 games to 1. Of course that's never happened before and means they obviously won't win the series. It's not like it happened, oh, like last season against the Ducks or anything. I thought that game was the most pathetic performance ever? Wings fans sure have short memories. I really hate to be the realist and pessimist here, but... In that Anaheim series the Wings scored 6 goals in the first two goals. Sure, they were shut out in Game 3 but they had already demonstrated they could score and compete in the series. The Wings have yet to do that. Hence the feeling that they haven't shown they have the ability to come back against Boston. Game 1: Detroit 1 Anaheim 3 Game 2: Detroit 5 Anaheim 4 OT Game 3: Anaheim 4 Detroit 0 Very different series.
Guest Playmaker Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Obviously, the defense has been poor and the offense has been anemic. It isn't the amount of goals that Howard has given up, its also about the when and the how. A majority of the team were playing in Grand Rapids to start the season, Datsyuk is clearly not 100%, Z is out, Franzen is a no show. Howard is a number one goalie making number one goalie money in the prime of his career. It's on him to lead the team with his play. He did so in game one, not so much in games 2 and 3. 3 roboturner, Ekmanc and Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) Big difference between expecting a shut out and expecting to not give up incredibly soft/stupid goals and subsequently leads early on in two playoff games in a row. Huge, huge, huge difference in fact. Those kind of goals set the tone and both days, Boston comes back and scores another within just a few minutes. Again, he's hardly the only problem, but when your goalie is giving up leads to a team like Boston early two games in a row in the playoffs, it's a very serious problem whether he plays better the rest of the game or not. He obviously wasn't exactly lights out the rest of game two either. Jimmy Howard did not give the Red Wings a chance to get things started against Boston, but he absolutely straight-up handed Boston that chance, two playoff games in a row. That's the bottom line and that's why it's a serious problem no matter his play the remainder of the game. Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Howard didn't given them the momentum, Detroit did.... A pp goal by Hamilton walking down the slot on a stupid penalty... That's what killed the momentum... A terrible change by detroit, that's what killed the momentum.... Howard can bail his team out every time and people who say he never does... This game should have been worse then 2-0 1 puckloo39 reacted to this
Guest Playmaker Report post Posted April 23, 2014 They scored the same amount of goals in games 1 and 3. So Game 2 was good offensively, but the also gave up a ton of goals that game too. We can go back and check the game thread, but I don't think too many Wings fans were all geeked and optimistic after that game 3 shutout.
Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Going to have to pull a Randy Carlyle but I didn't like the compete level tonight. The pace looked like a regular season game and was pretty boring for about 57 minutes of the game. Gotta win game 4. Read my mind about the Carlyle thing. I was trying to imagine what Babs's post-game rant would be, and I kept thinking of Randy Carlyle and his epic hard-on for Compete. But, really, that's what was so ugly about tonight, at least to me. I felt like we were never really giving it our all, or anything even close to it. What are we saving anything for? Down 3-1 and facing elimination in Boston? Is that when we're planning to "Leave No Doubt"? Blah. Check your heads and hearts, Wings. Tonight should be the mother of all wake-up calls.

Not metaphorical fire under their asses. Just the usual float around "calm collected cool" mentality. I wouldn't be this pissed off if they showed some damn effort and energy. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

Guest Playmaker Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Top 10 money or not, Howard, and most goalies in the NHL, are not going to shutout the Bruins or hold them to one goal. This team has to score. That's all there is to it. He didn't have to shut them out in Game 2. The Wings made it a 2-1 game and Howard lets in a somewhat soft goal late in the second period to totally deflate the team. How different would that game have looked only down 1 goal and the team skating well. That is what I meant by the timing of the goals.

I just punched my own dick. 7. I hate that Holland never takes any slack. Where's the accountability? He's done nothing since the salary started to take a toll on his team, i.e. 2010. 8.
