Marchand Fined $10,000 For Kronwall Slew Foot

This sends all imaginable wrong signals. Everyone knows Marchand is a weasel. He can play, but he is very dirty. It's his fifth or sixth hearing I believe.

This kind of decision sets precedents. I don't get it. Do they want the enforcers back? Ultimately that's where this would lead.

It's unbelievable. I could understand if this was the guys first incident, but this dude does this all the time and has learned nothing. League would rather see the Bruins in the playoffs than the Wings.

Some time ago I posted how I would like to see this team draft 'skill' in the first 3 rounds, but then rounds 4, and higher we look for mean SOB's.

I want to replicate the 90's Red Wings...Mess with our guys - you'll get punched in the face.

Might actually go over well in the new barn.

Fighting is already practically nonexistent in the NHL.  In a few years, they'll ban it altogether.

0.002% of his current salary.  0.002% of someone making 60k/year is 120 dollars.

Wow! I thought it was a joke before, but seeing the actual number really puts it into perspective as to how pathetic their system is.

Its actually probably even more pitiful than the numbers indicate.  The cost of daily living is a much larger percentage of someone's total salary who makes 60k vs someone who makes 5M (unless you're living a ridiculously expensive lifestyle), so that $120 becomes a relatively larger chunk of the remaining free money of a 60k salary than the 10k that Marchand is losing.

Well the problem is getting the players association to agree :/

100% agree, which is odd because you would think player safety would matter to them. I dont even care what you do with the fines. Take them and place them into the escrow account, I dont care.

I'm guessing their issue is if a coach tells a player to do something, and then gets fined while the coach has no punishment. Maybe it is a bit more complicated then it appears at first glance. Either way, something needs to change.

and right now that sorry son-of-a-b.i.t.c.h tearing apart flightless bird while boston's talking heads mumble how good it wasn't a suspension but just a fine. it is indeed fine with NHL.

Absolutely disgusting response by the NHL. Utterly embarrassed to consider this league one that I've followed and backed as a fan for almost 3 decades.
Shea Weber and now this Rat gets away with it.

how about stop running to the league and handle that stuff on the ice? Oh I forgot the good guys are gone now. With Downey in the lineup that stuff wouldn't go without a response. Also very telling that nobody jumped the guy. While 10.000 is a lot of money it's nothing for Marchand

My issue is if they're going to police the league more they need to stop being partial towards all star players. It's ridiculous.

It's almost a slap to the face when they fine these guys peanuts for money. Just don't fine them then.

Not to mention Marchand is a repeat offender.

Not to draw anyone into the 'enforcer debate'...But this is why myself, and others like a certain amount of 'policing' done by the players.

You are right - piss poor job by the NHL (read 'director of player safety' Stephane Quintal).

The leagues going to turn into soccer in the next 30 years where players will "Fake injury" so the NHL police hands out higher suspensions because currently it seems that as long as a player isn't injured on the play, regardless of how s***ty a hit was, star players are getting away with suspensions.

But yes I agree, someone needs to KO Marchand for this. Ott isn't the guy, he never wins a fight. Probably Abdelkader can come close to it. Or Ericsson.

Nothing new here and the lack of reaction is also very telling, this is not a tight team with a pack mentality.

Ott? As much as I like him but he has no chance Chara, McQuaid if only the Wings had a young 230lbs something warrior...named McKee wait they do he just never got a chance because he's too tough for this franchise. Does Marchand do the same thing when a behemoth is on the other bench I dont think so

This stuff is what the anti enforcer crowd wanted and now people are crying about it.
