We have to rebuild the rebuild now?

Might as well. These idiot players seem to be under the impression that it's ok to win games, which means we have a serious culture problem within this organization.

Nuke it from orbit. Burn it to the ground. No survivors.

I sure as f*** hope Yzerman doesn’t come aboard and run this franchise further into the ground by leading it to success.

Come on, Chris, Chiarelli is right there for the taking!

Anybody else actually excited to play Pitt now? We may steam roll those losers

As long as McIlrath and Witkowski take some liberties with Malkin and Crosby I'm all for it.  Need to send Eichel and that pimple faced punk Dahlin a message as well the last game of the season.  Give 'em something to think about for next year.

I don't know about ages.. Larkin at 15 is starting to look like about as big of a steal as Pastrnak. And Pasta gets to play with better linemates (at least for the time being). I also don't buy the made up "teams aren't trying anymore" argument.. it's a little too convenient to just say that. Both teams were skating hard last night and the wings had more bounces go their way, it happens.

But yeah, hopefully Zadina take a big step forward next year for sure, he's got the ability. And I'll agree that some more consistency out of Mantha would be nice.. but I think he's slowly getting better in that department - especially with his patience with the puck.

We need a center more than a winger.  I think Pastrnak is better at what he does than Larkin is at his role, but I wouldn't trade a top center for a winger when you're weak at the center position.

I really hope McIlrath, and Witkowski finish the season on the ice, and not in the press box...Their enthusiasm for rough play makes these last few games more entertaining.

That Witkowski hit/fight combo last night is not being talked about enough. My nipples are hard just thinking about it.

It's really a shame McIlrath is as slow as he is, because I really like the way he defends. Uses his weight and his size and is smart about it. Really like him protecting the front of the net.

Seeing him play live at the LCA he seemed ‘ok’ - however he probably is lacking the mobility when going up against the oppositions top skaters.

Larkin is a steal and that doesn’t happen every year That’s why it’s better odds relying on a top 3 pick than hoping we just keep getting star players in the 7-10 range yearly, doesn’t happen

and as great as Larkin has been I don’t know if he might be better off being suited as a great #2c

One might say its a little convenient to believe they try hard every game to make ourselves think we’re currently better than we are. If you don’t believe top teams take games off and take teams for granted at this stage of the season I don’t know what to tell you, agree to disagree

well let’s hope that’s the case with mantha, I’ve liked him a lot since we drafted him  but he’s already turning 25 and by the time this team might be able to make some noise and finally get in the playoffs on a yearly basis he might just be walking out the door as a ufa, I’d strongly consider trading him if it meant we can land a top notch dman prospect with veleno and zadina etc...

Maybe if an oilers somehow fluke themselves into a #4-5 spot again and we can move mantha cause they’re so desperate for wingers to play with mcdavid and we turn that move into a byram is something I’d have to think about

I don't think it makes me think we're better than we are though.. I know we're a bottom team. But that only makes games like this one more exciting imo. It doesn't matter what point in the season it's in to me.

I like Mantha a lot too. Hopefully he's not the type to leave. It wouldn't make a lot of sense for him to leave as a UFA though.. He's 24 & still an RFA after next season. If all goes well with the rebuild and his next contract is a good one (we've been pretty good at RFA contracts), he'll be hitting Ufa right when we're back to being competitive again. Plus, in the best case scenario where he really becomes a good player and is ready to get PAID when he's about to become a free agent, we'll have a lot of the current bad contracts off the books. I'd rather we hold onto him if he keeps improving like he has this season.

OH yeah, 100% agree. I wouldn't trade Larkin at all. Was just comparing them as far as drafted talent outside the top three goes after it was said that we haven't had a draft day steal in ages. Larkin was a draft steal imo.

For sure. Easily top 5 pick of that draft. I'd probably rank him in the top 3.

He's not the only recent draft day steal either...

2012

Athanasiou - 110th overall -> top 15 pick.

2013

Mantha - 20th overall -> top 10 pick.

Bertuzzi - 58th overall -> top 30 pick.

Too early to say on the past 3 drafts, but Cholowski (20th overall) and Hronek (53rd overall) could be in the top 10-15 in a couple years. All of Zadina (6th overall), Veleno (30th overall) and McIsaac (36th overall) could be steals as well.

Maybe at 28 and ufa to be he’ll want to sign with a cup contender and not stick with a team who’s battling for a playoff spot yearly , look at Tavares ...it’s not a sure thing he’s gonna stick around

im not saying I’d do it but I’d strongly consider moving him if a team like edm gets desperate for mcdavid help and we can land a Byram in return

I was pretty impressed with the open ice hit Bowey put on Marchand.  I love seeing that little punk get rocked.
