5/16 Playoff Gameday
redwingsgirlie reacted to 10 Minute Misconduct for a post in a topic
Kane's my favourite player on the Hawks. I'd take Kane, Towes, Hossa, Keith winning the Cup over Thornton, Marleau, Diveagucci and those clowns. -

Worst Hockey Team Name Ever?
55fan reacted to Datsyerberger for a post in a topic
Disagree, especially on the Lightning. The modern plural for Lightning is Lightning. 'Lightnings' is an archaic plural that only shows up in old poetry. Avalanche is a good name, and 'Avalanches' would just sound terrible. The Wild, on the other hand, I agree with. Wtf is a Wild? Some sort of Bear-Tiger-Weasel-Cat-Wolf-Thing, apparently. For me, personally, it's the Ducks. The Mighty Ducks was horrible, but hey, it was a Disney franchise. On the other hand, the Ducks? Why the hell did they keep the name Ducks? WTF kind of team name is Ducks? That's even less terrifying than Penguins. At least Penguins have an association with ice. Ducks migrate away from ice in Winter (hey, maybe they should be in Phoenix). -

5/16 Playoff Gameday
redwingsgirlie reacted to high_stick69 for a post in a topic
Please, tell me how the Sharks can go a full game without a penalty. How often does this happen in the new NHL? Even with their one sided blind love for the San Josegay Sharks they couldn't win. Why don't they just give the Sharks a penalty shot, and if they score, they win the cup? I mean sheesh... at least keep it fair. When the Sharks aren't getting powerplays, they are getting beat. Just like today! -

Sharks can't win unless they get a long 5 on 3 or at least 6 powerplays. LOL -

Hawks or sharks?
redwingsgirlie reacted to Yzerfan1999 for a post in a topic
Nobody who wears teal deserves to win anything. Go Hawks. Go Habs. -
1 pointPoor Hawks. They have no idea what they're in for.

1 pointI'm indifferent to this series (SJ-CHI). Let it go 7 games, with each game going to 3 or 4 OT's for all I care. Let these guys beat each other up and wear each other out. I can't bring myself to cheer for a division rival, so I can clearly not cheer for Chicago. I can't bring myself to cheer for the team that knocked us out, so I can clearly not cheer for San Jose. It's like a battle of wits...

Andreas Lilja?
GoWings1905 reacted to Detroit # 1 Fan for a post in a topic
I love Lilja, but no, time to get someone who can actually do his job. He doesnt clear the crease, hit, fight or shotblock like he used too. There are better options out there. -

The Worlds
Original-Six reacted to dat's sick for a post in a topic
You think so? It was a nice combination on the goal, but usually this is what happens: *Pavel is deep in the defensive zone working to win the puck while Malkin and Kovy are floating ready to jump up offensively* *Pavel wins puck and passes one of the two linemates* *Kovy/Malkin skates and dribbles for a while and either shoots the puck or loses it some other way* *Other teams goes back the other way and the process starts over* I hate watching Pavel playing with guys who never give him the puck back after he passes them. That's one of the reasons I've never been sold on the idea of getting Kovalchuk to Detroit. Pav is best with guys like Zetterberg, or even Franzen and Holmstrom, players that return the puck back to him once in a while. Btw, I would give anything to see Bykov play Fedorov and Datsyuk on the same line.. it won't happen since those are their two best Centers, but they are my two biggest hockey-heroes of all-time and to see them on the same line would be a dream come true. -

Holland Targets Gritty 4th Liner
redwingsgirlie reacted to newfy for a post in a topic
The fact that people can't stand Burish makes me want him more. Its been a long time since we've had a scrappy guy who everyone they play against can't stand. He's a solid fighter and can piss people off. Homer pisses people off but lets be serious, he's not scaring anyone. -
1 pointI consider myself part of the enforcer crowd so I'll chime in here. I don't think a lot of guys are unhappy about him being undersized, the enforcer advocates don't want 6'5 goons that can't play, they want tough players in the line up that can man up when needed. Callahan is a tough kid for sure but its the only person in the system like this and has taken huge strides in one year, so whats not too like. He'll never be an enforcer at his size but he could be a good complimentary guy for a bigger guy. The second punch in a 1,2 punch if you know what I mean?
-
1 pointI would love Brandon Prust. He can't handle a puck to save his life but he can skate really well and cause some mayhem on the forecheck. Not a bad fighter either, good energy player.

Holland Targets Gritty 4th Liner

There you go. That's exactly how I feel. The last two years the wings haven't been able to do anything at the deadline due to being up against the cap. -

I'd like to see Holland not spend all the cap money and wait for trade deadline or waived players. -

Luongo Not the Answer for Vancouver
Drake_Marcus reacted to RedWingsRox for a post in a topic
Yo, I live in Vancouver too and it is nauseating to hear the mantra, 'Best goalie in the world'. If Luongo is the best goalie in the world, then Jimmy Howard must the best goalie in the universe or at least in our solar system. Howie was far better than Lui in regular season and playoffs and his is 1/10th of Luongo's salary. Regardless of how much I don't like the Canucks, I actually felt bad for Luongo last night not because he was hung out to dry per se but because he should have played the last 40 mins like the first 20 to give his team a chance. Even down 2-0 ... not insurmountable but down 3-0 on a shorty that was weak ?? What shocked me was that Samuelsson, the guy who they brought in to be cool, calm, and collect supposedly learnt from the Wings lost it ... hooking/cross checking, misconduct basically putting the Canucks down a player for 4 mins with about 7.5 mins left in the game. Very uncharacteristic of Sammy. -

Ville Leino Appreciation Thread
ManLuv4Clears reacted to GMRwings1983 for a post in a topic
Leino is playing well because he's surrounded by tough guys. Like newfy suggested in another thread, players play with more balls when they are in a tough lineup. I remember the HBO Flyers documentary this past weekend, where the players said the same thing. Leino is just feeding off the Flyers aggressive style of play by actually playing with grit and going to scoring areas. If anyone messes with him, he knows his players have his back. -

Wings' first draft pick - 22nd overall
wings1110 reacted to Drake_Marcus for a post in a topic
They need to keep trying to stock the cupboards with high upside prospects. A kid who could move in before they're 22 would be awesome. -

Luongo Not the Answer for Vancouver
GangstaBitch reacted to eva unit zero for a post in a topic
The problem with Vancouver is that they have built their team like this: Excellent top line. Solid second line. Mediocre checking line. Mediocre fourth line. Good top pair. Decent second pair. Mediocre third pair. Very good regular season goalie who they hope can carry them in the playoffs. Most championship teams are built like this: Strong top line Strong second line. Good checking line Solid fourth line. Very good top pairing. Strong second pairing. Decent third pair. Good regular season goalie capable of carrying the team in the playoffs. Look at the two builds. Which builds provide very good regular seasons and playoff failure, and which provide good regular seasons and deep playoff runs? I think you all know the answer.
