I heard the Wings will only play 41 games this season, that's why they have so much time between games. Apparently this is a new idea by commissioner Gary Bettman to try and create more "parity" throughout the league.

I'm not an old-timer, I'm 28. Being born in the Reagan administration doesn't qualify one as being an "old-timer"....unless you're someone who hasn't hit puberty yet.

Very true. Factors involved: a) Failure to consume first morning coffee before posting. b) Natural infuriating reaction to seeing the name 'Richard' causing mental lapses.

Yeah, that sounds like something an old person would say. "Back in my day, we had RESPECT! None of these kids have RESPECT anymore!"

He's absolutely correct. The obvious difference between today's game and Richard's generation is the extra safety equipment. Players these days feel they can throw the elbow because the other guy has a helmet on or get their stick up high because the other guy is wearing a shield. The extra equipment gives today's players the feeling that they can go out and just plain wreck the other guy. As far as the hits from behind, it needs harsher enforcement of the rules. Some players think they are just finishing their check but that's just a poor excuse.

Mike Babcock puts third line on notice

If that were to happen, that'd be a positive thing. Someone who gives up that easily is not required for a Stanley Cup run. Passion, commitment and sacrifice are required and a prima donna who quits that easy has none of that.

    Goaltender interference? Nah.

Yep, and he never gets called, has made a career out of cheating and the refs always favor the wings and kronwall is the dirtiest player in the league and the wings are the yankees and the fans dont know anything and modano screwed dallas over by not coming back and i hate the 2002 team and theyre too old to make the playoffs and bertuzzi is satan and little ceasars is poison and detroit cant sell cars and dr. rahmani sucks at lasik!!1!

    Goaltender interference? Nah.

I want Homer to skate up to Bryzgalov tomorrow night, look like he's about to knock him over just like Orr, and then gently tap Bryz on the shoulder. The resulting goalie interference penalty will give us all the proof we need. Muah ha ha.

Yeah, because I hate all tough players. I simply hate Chris Pronger because he is a cheapshotting *******. In all honesty the only reason I seem to be so negative towards "tough guys" is because I have to point out the delusion posters like you have that having a "tough game" automatically makes you better than another guy. Colby Armstrong does not become good simply because you misconstrued his undisciplined play for "sandpaper aggressiveness that this team needs."

Having seen your profile picture before, I'm surprised that he chose to go to your house, considering that he prefers less than appealing women to hang out with.

Tough Guy: Memoir of Bob Probert

If you go to the Freeps website, they've got 3 sets of extracts there. http://www.freep.com/article/20101024/SPORTS05/10240598/1355/Bob-Probert-I-always-seemed-to-take-it-to-the-next-level-you-know-what-I-mean? Quite frankly, I'm disapointed with what I've read. Very similar to the autobiography of another high-profile sporting legend that I read (George Best ). Full of excuses and self-justification for his destructive, selfish behaviour. I know thats going to be very unpopular and I'm going to be flamed to hell and back for it because he's such a hero to many on here, and a tragically dead hero at that, but there it is. He comes across as totally unapologetic for his off-ice behaviour, and clearly bore chips on his shoulder right to the end towards Demers & the players who despaired at his lack of proffesionalism. I mean, how dare his team-mates get upset that he was out drinking & clubbing during the '89 conference finals.... OK folks, flame away.

Pronger and his drama filled, atomic elbowing, contract can stay the hell away from this team.

Entirely way too subjective and needs to be viewed on a case-by-case basis of hard hits. Both sports are tough in their own ways and anybody dogging on either sport or their athletes in general are acting pretty obnoxious.
