That's what people like you and ben_umsc aren't getting or purposefully ignoring. We get that Osgood is close to retiring. Everybody gets that he is currently the back up goalie. Nobody is kissing his rear end. But since you all have such an extreme view of him the opposite way, you all act like a'holes and think that just because other people don't think he is playing subpar, we're all Osgood slappies. I will repeat, and get it through your think skull, that it has nothing to do with us or fans thinking Osgood will revert to demi-god form or that he'll play like the 2008 playoffs. That is the last thing this thread it is about. It is about knowing your place in an organization and paying respect to people who have been in this organziation longer than you, have accomplished more than you, and know how to go through the NHL grind and stress. Howard has done that. Osgood has done that. Larsson has not done that, hence him coming off like an a'hole. Got it?

    Daniel Larsson's comments on Osgood&Howard

Realists versus people living in the past

I do not feel sorry for them whatsoever. Suffer, suffer, suffer and then suffer through some more losing seasons leafblowers. It's karma, pure and simple, they are ALWAYS overhyped, shoved down our throats here in Canada, and have made the most horrific hockey decisions in the NHL. They've made their bed of s***, now they can lie in it and enjoy the smell.

Good stuff here. And not that I care what Larsson thinks, nor do I think Howard or Osgood care, but I've gotta say... I still think Osgood's potential is wildly underestimated by most. Nobody goes from putting on such an outstanding, Conn-Smythe worthy performance back in the 2009 playoffs to being completely "done" the next season. I just don't buy it at all. After all, it's the same crap that was said during the regular season of him before that great playoff run. I don't know what the hell his deal is with the regular season anymore and it is rather, umm, annoying perhaps? But when push comes to shove, it's hard for me to believe that Osgood doesn't still have what it takes to be a money goaltender when it counts. I don't think he was given enough of a chance last year down the stretch to prove anything in the regular season anyways. The situation with the rotation was a joke and as much as it is physically challenging to come in after month long breaks and play strong, the mental frustration he must've gone through sitting for so long could not have helped. I think he's playing better this year; he's had some strong games. I think Howard's obviously a better regular season goalie at this point in time despite his struggles creeping up more often than not over the last 5-6 games, but even if Osgood was playing worse, I'm not going to lie, I'd feel better heading into the playoffs with him starting than Howard still this year. I like Howard and I think he's got a lot of what it takes to last, but I still think he has lessons to learn while watching, much like Osgood had to learn watching Vernon. It's easy to rip on Osgood's regular season performance these days, but it's also easy to rip on Howard's playoff performance last year. Even if he wasn't horrible, he was not even remotely close to "great" and in fact he played significantly worse than he played in the regular season. Playoff hockey is a different game, and Osgood knows that very well. If Osgood can continue to compete this season and can begin to challenge Howard, I think it'd be best for the team and Howard (in terms of overall development) if Osgood started. Again, I still think there's a strong possibility that he can be a great playoff goalie. And again, I'm sorry if it bugs some of you, but if any goalies prove that the regular season and the playoffs are totally different beasts, it's Howard and Osgood...oh, and Manny Legace! Osgood was a vastly superior playoff goalie in the 2009 playoffs than in the regular season and Howard was a far better regular season goalie than playoff goalie in 2010. And Legace is just a joke. We'll see how it goes, but I still really like both of our goalies for what I believe to be quite rational reasons. Both have strengths and weaknesses. I think both have the potential to get it done when it counts. Howard might have more to learn to get there, but he's more than capable. And I think Osgood likely still has what it takes to go the distance. Bottom line, Daniel Larsson: I'm not worried.

Maybe he's not the classiest guy there is, but you don't give up on your prospects because of personality flaws. You put them in and see what they can do. Ultimately, you have to assess their value because you've already expended picks and resources on them. Remember, these guys are just kids at this point. There is a lot of room for growing both on the ice and in how they carry themselves.

Patrick Roy could back it up. Larsson hasn't backed up anything. He is a nobody, and he needs to understand he isn't somebody till he actually does something of relevance. I'm not asking for Larsson to kiss his ass. I'm saying him downright bashing him based on his stellar AHL career (oh boy Vezina candidacy here we come) is asinine. Congrats on ignoring the premise of the question. Miller and Eaves can be pissed (Mursak wouldn't be on the team regardless so he has no reason to be pissed about the other two) but they would get benched quick if they started publicly bashing their own teammates. It's called being a team player. Apparently some of the "experts" at LGW can't understand that concept. Right, because the "realists" aren't applauding Larsson for living in two years ago while Howard is playing well as an NHL starter NOW? Actually, the logical majority of us aren't even "living in the past", just that you don't get respect by attacking players who have done much more than you have. You are honestly like a mentally retarded rumor monger.

Looks like Larsson has a pathetic little fan club. Hope you enjoy his career outside of Detroit, since that is where he will probably be going.

Awesome! He speaks the truth. Osgood is done, and has been for years now. Ever since the 09' season excluding the playoffs he's been trash. He might have a good game here and there, but that's what he's getting paid for after all. Also, I remember Larsson did outplay Howard in the AHL his first year, it's refreshing to hear someone speak his mind and the truth and not sugercoat things. Can't wait til' Ozzie hangs em up after this year!

    Another obviously blown call?

I think it should be put to death (broken) and buried. The ground under which it is buried should then be salted, so that nothing may ever grow there again (barring soil transplant).

Osgood's success is in his past and what he's shown the recent few seasons is that he does not know or have what it takes to win anymore. Osgood always saying, "I feel great out there" and "I'm going in the right direction" while he is always losing is whats idiotic. An eager young goalie voicing his wanting to contribute now and pointing out the obvious (that he is better suited for Osgood's current job) is a tad cocky but he is wanting his chance. I say let Osgood retire and let the healthy competition between Howard and Larsson flourish as it will only make the both of them play harder and better. Howard having Osgood behind him barely able to handle the odd relief game is not going to serve as a motivating factor nor will it give him the breathers he requires.

Assuming the translation is right, it sounds like he's basically saying he'll come back if the Wings give him a completely unearned opportunity to start in the NHL. And whether he's right or wrong about Ozzy and Jimmy, it's an incredibly immature and stupid thing to say. Because if he did get to play for the Wings, he's basically going to be alongside Jimmy and playing behind a lot of guys who won at least one Stanley Cup with Osgood and have been his teammate for years. They might not take too well to some rookie shooting his mouth off about their teammate and friend, particularly when that rookie hasn't done s***.

Nobody saw the sarcasm in SeeinRed? As for the call, yikes. That's about as obvious as it gets. But then again, maybe its justice for the Stars benefiting from Brad May's no goal last season.

    Another obviously blown call?

    1) Doesn't really matter if it was intentional or not, it's like highsticking, you still have to make the call. 2) I have been playing hockey for 28 years now and I can honestly say that my stick has almost never left my hand, other than when someone slashes it out of my hand (which hasn't happend much either), I can't even remember a single instance where I lost my stick. I'm sure it's happened several times, but obviously not that often. So, holding on to your stick with hockey glove is actually pretty easy. If you find it almost impossible, maybe you should consider changing your gloves, or maybe the way you tape your stick needs to change.

I like his comments and he is 100% spot on... Osgood is done! I think they should give Larsson a shot next season as Howards backup to start and see if he can steal the show from him. So long as its a healthy competition and not in bad blood... do it! Right now Howard plays well enough and has to be over-played because Osgood is garbage. It's time to move on and why not let Larsson have his chance?!

    Abdelkader re-signs for 2 years

No Abdelkader must clear waivers in order to be sent down, abdelkader will get picked up. He's in a red wing uniform this season for sure.
