technically Zetterberg wasn't selected for the all star game which means him not going violates no rule at all

Eric Staal and Lidstrom: ASG Captains

Who cares about Crosby and the East. It's nice to see Lidstrom named the West captain. Despite it being the all-star game, it is still a tremendous sign of respect towards Lidstrom.

Doc, he's a fourth liner because he's a small player who's only an average skater, haven't you learned how the haters think? Doesn't matter if he scores 1 points or 100 points. Sure, he hasn't played up to his skill this year offensively, but he has been decent defensively (and gotten NO CREDIT) and has worked harder and been much more present in the corners and in front of the net than the haters give him credit for. When I see Hudler as the first Wing, or at least Wing forward, on the backcheck, that tells me he's working hard on defense and in general. And I've seen it quite a few times. Hudler is one of the slowest forwards on the team, yet has managed to be one of if not the first player back on the backcheck as often as anyone he plays with. But people ignore that, and instead simply say "Hudler is a slacker, he sucks, he'll never work hard or play defense" just because the points aren't coming his way. If Hudler was on a 20-game scoring streak with 35-40 points in that span right now, you wouldn't hear a peep about him sucking.

Hoping for a balls to the wall win from the Wings. My friends and I are going to the Motor City Casino for the viewing party (managed to snag a few of the 400 tix before the "sold" out). They won the last time there was a Viewing Party, hopefully they win again

Yeah; we're gonna see Joe Kocur paired up with Chun-Li to fight Ryu and Wolverine in the next Marvel vs. Capcom game.

Those are the popular names but they got wayyyy more guys than those two. Sometimes it seems like it's just what's his face and everybody else around him is supposed to protect him or "scare off" any potential cheap shotters.

Like the rest of the guardians...stupid. I like the GP concept, but for something supposedly several months in development with allegedly professional comic writers involved, it's been disappointing. The whole thing seems like some college art student spent the whole semester partying, and had to cram the whole project into one weekend.

The Red Wings are to the NHL what the Yankees are to baseball, what the Patriots are to football, and what the Lakers are to basketball. Any chance a "writer" has to criticize a player from any of the above-mentioned teams, they'll take it. Why? They're guaranteed readers/debate/discussion. The same happened in the late 80s and 90s with the Chicago Bulls and the Dallas Cowboys. We really ought to be happy that someone from outside Detroit knows who the hell Hank is, considering the NHL markets only two players.....and he ain't one of them.

1/18 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Penguins 4

Chris Kunitz... Ugh... "Hey I'm just gonna jump Darren Helm for no reason other than maybe because he's never fought before and I can bank away a win on my fight card... Yay..." I mean, with all those disgusting names it really makes me wish that Tardif was in for the game. Not to "answer the bell" but to perhaps send him as a kamikaze to Cooke's ACLs.

So let me get this straight. The Red Wings ask the NHL not to invite Z to the ASG. The NHL grants the request, Z is not chosen. This guy wants the NHL to fine Zetterberg because his club dared make a request and the NHL complied. Surely the guilty party here would be the NHL, seeing how they're the only ones why actually made a decision in this chain of events. Maybe next they can start giving out fines to players for bad calls...

I'm assuming the author is Canadian. How about he spends his time bitching about the plethora of Canadians that cannot muster enough strength to go play for their country at the World's after their NHL season is over. At least, those games have meaning.

I think a 10 game suspension will be sufficient. Hank will have to learn that nobody crosses the boss.

    Doughty HUGE hit on Hall

I think thats stupid. What wings fan would want a 19 year old Yzerman being the one to have to stick up for himself? No one in their right mind, neither did management so they got him Probert. I understand not liking the fights after clean hits (even though it is often hard to determine whats clean and what isn't, the players dont get to watch youtube 3 times to decide.. they have 5 seconds to react) but its an age old thing where if theres gonna be a fight, a 19 year old star is not the one who should have to do it.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Hudler has become this year's whipping boy so people have blinders on when looking at his game. If people would for one second look at thing objectively you might gain some perspective. Hudler was never the most defensively skilled forward so to expect him to suddenly make a vast improvement to that area of his game is being unrealistic. Maybe you should take note of the turnover he created, in Saturday's game against Columbus, at our blueline that lead to Filppula's goal. Not the greatest defensive play in the world but it was a solid defensive play none the less that sent the Wings moving the other way and turned the momentum in the Wings favour. Secondly, you want to quote strength. The guy is small and always has been. Again, you can point out the negatives to the guy's game that have been there since the day the Wing's drafted him all you want. If you want you can also point out that Lidstrom isn't a physical defenseman that is a real bummer because the 2010-11 Wings team, according to so many on this forum, lack team grit but it doesnt mean that Lidstrom doesn't have other redeemable qualities. Pointing out someone's flaws (Hudler's lack of defensive competence and strength) doesnt diminish his positives. It's just a weak attempt to hide his redeemable qualities. No one is going to say that this year has been a good, or even decent, year so far for Hudler. But whipping boy or not, people need to learn how to look at things objectively. With the bad comes the good at times and people should give respect where respect is due. Over the course of the last 10 games Hudler play has improved (and yes there is still room to grow). He has stepped up and done a part in the depth scoring that the Wings have needed while the injuries have piled up. For the record, I'm not even a Hudler slappy
