The NHL is looking for some new referees. It would seem as though you would fit their current profile of refs that they are using these days.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

I haven't noticed, no. But then again I'm blind. I lost both eyes to high sticks because I wasn't wearing a visor.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

Yes, I've played at fairly competitive levels as well. The amount of injuries I've seen from random pucks far and away outweigh any negativity that a visor would bring. To me there just isn't a good reason not to wear one if you are actually smart that it is.

Pointing out a freak injury involving a player wearing a visor makes about as much sense as pointing out a freak injury that occurs because someone was wearing a seat belt. I understand cages and visors are annoying and restrict vision, but they prevent many, many more injuries than they cause.

Can't wait for someone to bump this thread when an injury to the face happens to someone. Hopefully not a Red Wing. Pleeeeeeeeease?

    Jimmy Howard watch thread

Goaltending is always going to be a question mark to people in Detroit. You name any goalie in our last 4 cup championship teams, and all of them have been under the magnifying glass. Even after they win a cup, no respect is given to them. This is the way it is always going to be in Detroit. Even last year when Howard was solid in net and helping us get into the playoffs, people here and other Wings fans I know never gave him any credit. Today, its no different. If Howard plays amazing, it is what he is supposed to do. Anything less, and its horrible. Being as that no goalie plays at that high of a level every game, there is no goalie who is good enough to goaltend in Detroit.

This post is just further proof that according to some Wings fans no goalie is good enough to goaltend in Detroit.

I love the GDTs we have...

Ha that's pretty cool. I still think Aflac's GDTs were the best the internet has seen.

The Joe's reaction to Modano's tying goal was one of the loudest I've ever heard come out of the venue!

Just got back from the game. OMFG the Joe was just nuts in the 3rd. By far the best Wings game I've been to despite the SO loss. Way too many Pens fans there but I guess that made being at the game a lot of fun. As others have said, very happy to get a point out of this game.

In the buttocks. I know it won't likely happen, but I'd love to play these tards again in the Finals. Just to feel my blood boil again.

Not to me. Shootout losses aren't real losses, they're silly. The main thing is, Detroit earned a point after being down 4-0 and looking dreadful.

At least they got a point after being down 4-0.

No we aren't allowed to say bad stuff about Howard.

Datsyuk needs to teach Helm how to snipe and turn him into a monster.

3/21 GDT: Penguins 5 at Red Wings 4 (SO)

So, THAT's interference, but when Kronner gets hit from behind before he's about to shoot the puck, it's not? Got it.

Very glad to see Modano score.

If you're gonna fight, you take the risk of getting hurt. Its the player's choice. It should be the player's choice whether to wear a shield or not.

Well, obviously Crosby wasn't wearing a visor in his early days and look what it did to his face!!! It should be a warning to the others.

I'd have no problem with fighters taking off their helmets before a fight, but I'm not worried about their safety from fights as opposed to game play. And the extent of those injuries are what the visors are there for. I'd much rather have a .1%(made up statistic is made up) less chance to lose sight in an eye, then just being a "real hockey player" and not wearing one. You can choose when you want to fight, you can't choose if a stick or puck gets deflected. I'd much rather have a broken hand, then lose years of my career like Bryan Berard.

although i support the right to choose what you wear either way, I have to say a visor or cage is even more needed in amateur leagues. The idiots who call them selves "hockey players" in some beer leagues and drop ins ive encountered make the worst decisions with the stick or puck that i have ever seen. The pros at least at this time still have a little bit better sense of respect and awareness when it comes to hockey that allows them to wear less protection.

That's why I think there should be an additional minor for fighting with a visor on. I realize punching the side of a helmet hurts as well. I know you're not trying to start anything, and I'm not either. I just think it should be left to each individual player to decide whether he wants to wear a visor or not.
