You could at least make it a proper haiku if you're gonna be a debbie downer. -
2 pointsAgreed. Hudler is a Wing, and once the season starts, he is one of us. I will cheer him on, delight in his glory, share his dejection in his shame, and hope against all hope that he will prove that he is worthy of the title of Red Wing. Until then, I look for better options. As you might guess, I generally hate mid-season trades.

"We feel good with the people we have," Holland said
Vladifan reacted to Drake_Marcus for a post in a topic
“We like our team, but we’re ready to make another move or two—whether it’s a signing or a trade—to make our team better this summer,” Holland said. http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/tmr/comments/ken_holland_focuses_efforts_on_finding_a_new_back-up_goaltender/ He's not going to say "Damn we're in need of a top-tier d-man that I hope to get via trade." You know... because he doesn't want to get rail-roaded by the team he wants to trade with. -

Well, since mj said it... Stop posting here if you are going to keep whining about the gloom and doom of the Wings. You can make an honest discussion about the Wings' future without sounding like a baby. "The bottom line is that top to bottom, this might be the worst Wings team to take to the ice since 1991. " One of the most moronic statements ever made. Let me know how straight talent worked for Detroit in 95, 96, 01, 03. It's about structure, and the Wings were a single game away (don't forget about the injuries and s***ty luck the Wings dealt with in round 2) from making it to the conference finals. You aren't sounding like a realist. You are sounding like a straight up pessimist. -

1 pointI don't understand how on one hand you can say that the Minny trade should be used as a comparison and then shoot down people's suggestions of Smith, Fil, and a 1st. Since you think Yandle is better than Burns there would be no pick coming back as there was in the SJ/MINN deal. This whole thread has been ridiculous. Everyone keeps freaking out and saying Holland couldn't even trade Hudler for a pick or that the Wings don't have the assets to make a Yandle deal happen. First, you have no clue what Holland was asking in exchange for Hudler. For all we know Holland wanted a roster player back and teams were unwilling to go that route or trade a roster player the caliber of what Holland was asking for. So before you continue to freak that Hudler wasn't dealt you should consider the fact that the Wings don't overpay in free agency and they do not give roster players away unless the return is greater than what they're shipping out. Secondly, the Wings would have just as good a shot at landing Yandle as any other team. You can't compare some of the trade proposals in this thread with what other teams could include a deal. You dont know that those teams would be willing to include better/more pieces. If Yandle is going to be traded the Wings will set their limits (in terms of what could be sent the other way) and if Phoenix wants more than the Wings will pass.

Zherdev and Emery?
lil Wing's fan reacted to 13dangledangle for a post in a topic
I dont know Zherdev all that well but from what Ive heard it's not good...However with the candor of the Red Wings could this alter his attitude? Or could the Dazzeling Datsyukian dekes humble him just enough to give us a chance to mold him some? I think so imo, and I love Emery as well, he plays with raw emotion and plays really well (most of the time).....he could also be our enforcer. I love fighting goalies! -

Forward lines next season?
Buppy reacted to 13dangledangle for a post in a topic
Filppula - Datsyuk -Holmstrom Hudler- Zetterberg - Franzen Cleary - Abs - Bertuzzi Eaves - Helm-Mursak I love the combos. I just think that Abby would do great with Clears and Bert, they are all cut from the same cloth so to speak. That leaves Helm on four, which is almost my favorite line on the team. The "Wheels" line as I will call it of Eaves, Helm and Mursak. These guys will leave almost any line one thru four spinning round watching them fly away. I am really digging this team right now, and I have a feeling it's a best for last sort of thing...we shall see. -

Buffalo signs Ville Leino to 6-year, 27m contract
Drake_Marcus reacted to eva unit zero for a post in a topic
So... they save $250k from Tim Connolly. Who has been scoring consistently at a near-PPG level in Buffalo for years. And is reliable defensively. In five full seasons played since the lockout, Connolly has averaged 60 games played, 14 goals, 36 assists, and 50 points. Sure, he's had some injury issues. But even with that, he's been as productive per-season over those five seasons as Leino's one good season. Makes you wonder why they would get rid of a proven first-line NHL center in Connolly to pick up Leino, who has had one good season on the wing of a top-end center, and try and cram him into the center role which he hasn't played since juniors. And for the record, Ehrhoff's contract is great unless the cap shrinks considerably; they get a high-end defenseman on the cheap, and can deal him later to a needy team if they have to. -

Wings looking to sign Drury?

I'd love to sign him to a one or two year deal. He's great defensively still. He'd also enable Hank or Val to move to the wing. Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi Hudler-Drury-Cleary Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves Mursak Miller -

Yandle on the block?
lil Wing's fan reacted to 13dangledangle for a post in a topic
The Yotes might remember Abby differently he scored a sick goal against them! I do really love Yandle and that would be awesome. Not likely but thats alright. -
1 pointThis theory works if you only plan on playing with 5 defensemen. Given that Rafalski's minutes are going to be picked up by someone, most any able bodied defenseman will pick up close to 15 to 20 points by the sheer dumb luck of being out there for that amount of time. Hell, even the offensively challenged Chelios picked up 11 or 12 points in his last full season of full time play here.

Wings re-sign Eaves to 3-year, $3.6m contract
LidsFan gave a reaction for a post in a topic
“I want to be with the Red Wings really bad, and everything worked out great between Kenny (Holland) and my agent, and for me, so I’ve very excited to be back,” said Eaves, who signed a three-year contract worth $3.6 million. “It’s just the people, the people in the organization that I’m with every day,” said Eaves, in an exclusive interview with DetroitRedWings.com. “Everyone is awesome, and I really enjoy all of the friendships that I have there. It was the people that really made me want to come back to Detroit.” -

Yandle on the block?
lil Wing's fan reacted to SwedeLundin77 for a post in a topic
If Holland has even the smallest of chances to obtain Yandle, he had better take it. As long as it doesn't cost Smith, I'm fine with it, within reason. At some point, Holland is going to have to give up some picks to make these things happen. When it's someone young and already becoming established, it's not wasting a pick. -
1 pointHe's only 31. What's the huge downside to a one-year deal when we have a ton of cap space this year? Even when he's in the lineup, he's been fighting injuries the past few seasons. We can afford to take the chance that he's healthier now. The latest concussion scares me, but I've heard it's nowhere near as severe as the last one. With good health, there's no doubt he's at least a 20-25 goal scorer. If he gets nowhere near that much on the open market, then why not sign him? Lower salary means low risk/high reward. I've only ever seen you deride other people's 'out there' suggestions. Why don't you play GM for us once?

Just curious, and I'm not saying I want Gagne, but who DO you want the Red Wings to sign? I've been lurking here awhile now and I've seen you shoot down literally every player mentioned as a possible acquisition. Who would you like? -
1 pointHonestly, I would have paid Eaves more. The guy does it all for us. He definitely deserves more than Ericsson should have gotten.

RFAs Who Did Not Receive Qualifying Offer
Drake_Marcus reacted to eva unit zero for a post in a topic
Dowell surprises me. I thought he was doing well for Chicago. Anthony Stewart is another shocking one. He made nearly nothing last year and scored 40 points. How do you not qualify that? I hope to see Holland make a move to pick up Stewart if he could get him cheap. Maybe something like this: Hudler/Zetterberg/Cleary Franzen/Datsyuk/Holmstrom Stewart/Filppula/Bertuzzi Mursak/Helm/Eaves Abdelkader/Emmerton Although I would expect Stewart to sign with St. Louis ahead of Detroit; his brother plays there and as it stands he would be lined up to play in the top six. -

Modano
lil Wing's fan reacted to 13dangledangle for a post in a topic
Sorry if this has been covered already but I'm really confused as to why he was a healthy scratch 9 out of 11 games? It just doesn't make sence to me at all, Abby or Miller both could/should have been benched for Modano. He's just a different kind of player, goals were what we needed and Mo never had a chance to prove he was worthy. Is this Babcocks "American" dislike we have heard about? I just find some of the choices Babs made this year questionable is all.
