    Own success is our downfall

Good post, but before Crymson gets here and trolls I'll say this. OMG, WE'RE NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS. WE ONLY WON 4 CUPS IN THE LAST 15 YEARS AND I'M NOT SATISFIED. IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD. TRADE LIDSTROM AND DATSYUK FOR ENFORCERS!!!!!

why this season will not be different...

one - it's far too early to start FREAKING out. take a step back and breathe, please. two - with regards to the cap space/trade deadline acquisitions. priority #1 is finding our lidstrom replacement. he wasn't on the market this off-season. that's why the cap space still exists. he will be on the market this off-season (weber or suter, most likely). i highly doubt we make an acquisition during the season that prevents us from signing lidstrom's replacement this off-season. so if we do acquire someone, it'll be someone with an expiring contract, or someone that's relatively cheap. three - we just acquired a new top six super star. his name is gustav nyquist. let's wait and see how he does.

none whatsoever. he's making like half of what ericsson is. and he's probably our third best defenseman. his play has slipped during the losing streak, but so has everyone elses.

Maybe Detroit should be more like Toronto and have an annual fire sale, I mean, trades definitely guarantee success.

The same idea as the hits thread, just to get all fighting videos and talk in one place, so we don't have a ton of different threads about fighting. Keep the conversation peaceful. I'll start with Detroit's Big E: Eric Boulton drops Douglas Murray:

    Brunnstrom on waivers

Asked if he hopes another team picks him up, Brunnstrom was emphatic: "No, absolutely not. I want to be a Red Wing. I'd rather play in the minors than go to another team. I want to stay here." http://www.freep.com/article/20111030/SPORTS05/110300543/1053/sports05

    Brunnstrom on waivers

He does not have to clear re-entry waivers due to his two-way contract. Re-entry waivers are only for players making over a $105,000 in the AHL.

    Brunnstrom on waivers

So, waiving Brunnstrom allows Commodore to return to the roster AND keep Smith here to serve more of his suspension, then when Smith gets sent back down, it opens a roster spot to promote a Griffin (with waiver exemptions) until Mursak returns from injury, thus when the time comes, nobody needs to get waived. Makes sense to me. Waive Brunnstrom now before he has had a chance to impress other GM's around the league, so it is less apt that he will be claimed rather than let him play here and get better and risk losing him for sure when Mursak comes back. I like the move. If he gets claimed now, that's the risk, but it would be riskier to waive him in December if he has 10-15 points. +1,000,000 to Holland.

    Brunnstrom on waivers

The Wings have a habit of putting skilled players on the 4th line, and expecting them to pull rabbits out of their ass. I'm sure eva will agree with me there. The 4th line is for grinders and fighters, not for a skilled player who should either play on the top 6, or not be in the lineup.

This team screams for a trade

I too am not saying anyone "sucks" but like I said in the GDT from yesterday, we have seen these players peak, almost all of them. Cleary is always one of the "teams" best players, but he is never one of the "leagues" best players. Cleary (amongst others) has peaked and will not get any better than we have already seen. Abdelkader and Helm are what they are, and I don't see them getting any better, not that they are bad, but they are what they are. I said given the exception of Emmerton, this whole team has played their best season already and will continue on a downward slope or remain similar. Our team is what it is and is not getting any better, if not, slowly declining. Meanwhile most if not all other teams are making moves, bringing up young-in's and ARE getting better and better while Detroit sits stagnant. I do think Holland has tried to change the makeup of his a team a bit with signing Commodore and White along with Emmerton and Mursak (before injury) having a roster spot, but until something is done in the top 6, which I mean getting a legit top line sniper somehow, this team will remain stuck in this rut that we have grown used to since the 2008 win. I think Holland made mistakes by giving Franzen such a long contract, signing Ericsson, keeping Hudler (although nobody wanted him) and I think it will be a mistake if doesn't seriously, SERIOUSLY pursue one of Weber, Burns or Suter AND if not acquired at or before the deadline a LEGIT super scorer to put on Datsyuk's line and possibly another one for Zetterberg. Whether or not he will be able to do so, we'll see, but this is what the team needs. I am not calling for heads, but if this team is gonna get better, there has to be change. This team is good enough to make the playoffs, but they are gonna get any better than what we've seen. edit: I had to edit because I didn't know Burns signed a life long deal and Weber is still a RFA after this season...how is that?

I'd still play around with lighting a fire under a key veteran like Datsyuk or Zetts or Bert by making them a healthy scratch before I'd make a trade. The talent is there; the finish is missing. A trade says 'You're done here and I don't believe in you.' A healthy scratch is a warning shot a foot over the player's head.

Huge brawl in the griffs game

If the Wings continue losing, Babcock should have them scrimmage against Grand Rapids. Maybe a little "tough love" is what the Wings need.

    What's up with Zetterberg?

Did he suddenly just lose motivation in seven games? Once again, I will state Z finished top ten in the league in scoring last season and carried this team with Pavel out. Someone struggles for seven games and he doesn't care about the game anymore? I am confident you could ask every member of his teammates/coaching staff and not one would have a bad thing to say about Z's work ethic.

Figured you'd have more to say than that. Oh well, silence is golden in whatever country you're in. I'm guessing Shoreline won't be saying much either since I threw his 2008 logic out of the window. On to the next one.

Ouch. That hurt. It's sad you don't realize they are nearly one in the same. Line combinations = roster. Pretty simple concept. Again, I'm not stating there is a problem. But if Babcock is hinting at it then maybe there is some truth to it. He's obviously trying to juggle the ROSTER to find some combination to spark the team becuase we all know they aren't playing the best hockey as of late, he's said so himself. Just because "it's been the most said statement by him" doesn't make it any less true. However I'm more inclined to think it could have been the month in between games they had. But if that spark, down the road, is waiving Brunnstrom and Emmerton and putting in Murask and Tatar, both of whom have more upside than the former, then so be it. Tatar is nothing but passion and hustle. Look at his first goal, kid wants to be a Red Wing. That's not saying the rest of the players don't. I have to try and be as clear as possible here. I remember when nobody was safe from Bowman. Even Stevie was in Bowmans dog house. It's unfortunate everyone has gone soft. I always find it humorous when people make references to the past, especially in sports and when it's five years ago. See, the thing about the past is, well, it's the past. It has little to no relevance to the team in the PRESENT. I *think* there is a saying about not living in the past, I'm not entirely positive though. Yes, it's virtually the same team in terms of the 'core' but you're talking about a Zetterberg, Datysuk, Lidstrom, Rafalaski, etc etc five years younger. There's a little difference there. But I forgot they won the cup that year so surely they are destined to this year! But wait, I can live in the past as well. Didn't San Jose knock us out the past two years? Not quite sure I want that to repeat itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol, -4, am I not kissing the Red Wings ass enough for you guys? I remember when this forum used to be good and someone could have a strong opinion. Now that's living in the past.

I'm gonna be selfish on this one... I want Jagr on the team. I know he's old and probably past his prime. But it's Jagr. As a young Wings fan (In college) I don't have any memories of the good years, and despite being a Wings fan I've never really paid attention to the players up to recently and it saddens me I'm going to have only one or two seasons worth of memories of some of the current leaders of the Wings. So if I can get Jagr on the team for one year, it'd be cool. Heck, he might actually produce. If they can get him for a good price on a short contract, go for it.
