The thing I find hilarious is that people talk about how this is an example of goalies "expecting" to be protected. Miller didn't try to put himself in between Lucic and the puck. He got to the puck in order to keep Lucic from getting a scoring chance on a breakaway (how dare he, right?) and got hit by a moron who doesn't know any better. This isn't like Marc Andre Fleury getting the puck behind the net and getting into a player's way to draw a penalty. (see: Johan Franzen in game 6 of the 2008 finals) The rules are there for a reason. Lucic decided to ignore them and deserved a penalty and a good beating.

A one handed swipe to the leg equates to a two handed slash to the side of the head?

Ryan Miller's opinion on Milan Lucic

I'm the biggest supporter of physical, tough hockey, but how can anyone seriously defend that play? Regardless of what we all think should be in the rules, the bottom line is its against the rules to hit a goalie in hockey. The grow up getting hit with pucks, not learning how to take a hit and their equipment is not designed to take a hit at all. Their helmets fall off from shots, so god knows what a 230 lb physical freak of nature like Lucic could do. He blatantly hit him, threw his hands up and everything didnt even attempt to move. I would love Lucic on Detroit but he is a huge meathead and this is a clear example.

Too bad about Ian. Hope he's back soon. I just hope it heals right.

Just a stupid stupid play by Lucic, and I for one hope some one on Buffalo finds the balls to take him next time they play. As for people saying that miller trying to slash him in the head??? Comparing it to Mcsorley??? That's a joke in its self. He took a one handed half ass swipe at Lucics legs, and people are saying that is disgusting. Stuff like that happens 20x a game behind the play. As for Miller speaking his mind, I'm glad he did. I understand why some are of you are calling it fair game but the rules are the rules. If you make it open season on goalies half the starters would be hurt in the first two months. The are protected for a reason. Players wouldnt hit a goalie to knock him off the puck, which a lot of the hits in the NHL are. They would hit the goalie to get him out of the game. To hurt him to get the back up in.

Would the neg bandits kindly explain to me what about this post warranted a -2? You wouldn't want Suter or Weber or Penner or 2 more Stanley Cups? Would you rather lose Stuart for nothing? So it wouldn't be a good idea to trade him before he leaves or sign/trade him if his heart is in LA? Do you hate Stuart so much that the mere idea of someone mentioned re-sign him makes you sick? Don't just neg someone, be a man and step up and explain the reason you disagree, instead of hiding...

Ryan Miller's opinion on Milan Lucic

i want to retire the word "gutless." it is way overused in hockey.

If words could describe how much I hate Lucic, I'd be the next Hemingway. I hate that hunchback spotpicker like no one else. And the Sabres need an enforcer on their team for a game like that. Boston ran Miller again later in the game with no repercussions.

Any McSorely references related to the Miller attempted slash are R-E-tarded. Listening to Lucic's postgame interview makes it worse. First tries to make the excuse that he wasn't looking, then bracing himself, because there was supposedly nothing he could do. Then, make a comment that (I'm paraphrasing) "If that happened to our goaltender we would have taken care of it, but we're a different team then they are". Essentially, yeah, he did it, but what are they going to do about it? Wrong attitude to have. Difference between grit and goon.

Ryan Miller's opinion on Milan Lucic

While I agree that a goalie that far out of the crease should be fair game, the fact is, according to the rules of the game today, they are not. Therefore, Miller had no reason to expect he would be hit like that and no reason to protect himself from it. Lucic very certainly knows that rule, and so knew Miller was in a vulnerable position. Seems like a clear attempt to injure to me, and if it was my call Lucic would be sitting for a few games. I'd also suspend Miller for the attempted slash.

    Will Stuart re-sign?

For the price we pay for Stuart, he brings a lot of value back, but I wouldn't be sad if didn't re-sign him because I think we could easily get an upgrade over him.

    Will Stuart re-sign?

This team needs Dustin Penner's compete level like it needs a hole in the head. I'm not the biggest Stuart fan but send him away if and only if he gets a quality defenceman back in return.

    Will Stuart re-sign?

Well, I would hope that if he does want to move closer to home next year he does one of two things, A. Tells the Wings early enough of his decision so they can trade him to LA at the deadline for Penner or 2. HE lets them know he wants to finish the year out with the Wings and THEN go home, so after the season he re-signs a sign and trade contract with the Wings that the Kings like and gets's traded to the Kings for Penner (who also does a sign/trade.) Of course there is always option C. I'd like to see him re-sign here and when/if Lidstrom retires and Holland gets Suter (or Weber via deadline trade(yes I am thinking positive)) he will still be part of the NHL's best defensive corps and help bring one or two more Cups here.... (positive thinking feels good this morning!)

Same as Buffalo's reaction. None of our euros would have done s*** to Lucic or anyone else.

    Will Stuart re-sign?

My thought is that the Kings are very unlikely to be in a playoff bind come the deadline; that they're very unlikely to trade away their captain; and that they don't need another defensive D-man.

All Lucic's fault. I'm sure he didn't mean to push the puck that far ahead, but by doing so he gave Miller the chance to get to it first, which he did. That's smart/aggressive goal-tending and I love it. Lucic did not have to hit Miller. It was not a "no other option" situation. That was just dumb on his part. I agree goalies get too much protection a lot of the time, but in this situation it's foolish to say Miller should have expected to be hit.

Ryan Miller's opinion on Milan Lucic

Would have loved to see Hasek in that situation ala Gaborik - probably would have been nuts enough to fight Lucic too.

    Will Stuart re-sign?

I thought his family moved to Detroit last year or so? Hm...that sounds like he plans on leaving then, whichw ill suck. He's been a great fit and you'd think he would want to stop being a journeyman. Will suck if we have to replace Lidstrom and Stuart.

Miller is very lucky he didn't connect with his stick there, it looked to me like he swung that goalie stick around like he was going for a Mcsorley....which is more of a piece s*** move if you ask imo don't skate to the hash marks, at Lucic of all people.

Mixed feelings for sure, but here they are: - Love Miller, but think goaltenders sometimes put themselves in situations where they should be considered a skater at least to some degree. - This is not one of those situations, Miller cleared the puck, Lucic finished afterwards. A goalie is a goalie, these aren't new rules. - Great to hear Miller react to the hit in a way other than it being 'unfortunate' or 'reckless', speak your mind. Love candid players. - Hate Boston, like the way Lucic plays and would love him on the Wings, but he has the propensity for dumb, reckless plays like this. - Immediately just outright hated the play because of the Boston homers. Seriously, worst in hockey by a wide margin. - Looking forward to some sort of backlash, either on Lucic, Miller, or both, but there shouldn't be. Tape describing why it was dumb. Done.

Like the fact he spoke his mind which is all too lacking these days, couldn't care much about the hit, but think Lucic made no attempt at the puck, he throws up the hands because he knows he's messed up and it'll be a good laugh to run a goalie. If it was any other player, the puck is still gone, still moving his feet, still a penalty. Think goalies are fair game, but think Lucic made a s***ty play. I'm just glad someone out there isn't saying "oh well they played really well, and they're a great team, and we have to respect that". Finally someone said "you know, I don't like him, or the way he plays"... see...
