    What this team needs

I want to get the experts on LGW opinion on what this team needs to be a true Stanley Cup contender once the playoffs roll around. This team is lacking something and I just can't put my finger on it. In the past the media and others have pointed to goaltending as the hole in the armour but I don't think that you can say that with the year Jimmys been having. The defense for the most part is doing o.k with Lidstrom playing great and White is proving to be an asset. The forwards however seem to be all over the place. Not one of the forwards is playing lights out. It's not like they are playing that bad but it seems that nobody is stepping up during an off night to sneak out a win. Have the players become comfortable with the fact that the wings always make the playoffs and that they never trade players? After playing like hell for the last two games they are givin the day off today, so is it coaching? I know it is still early in the season and that no team ever wins all its games but what I find frusterating about this team is the lack effort some nights and that nobody will stick up for one another or plays with an edge. How many times will Franzen get punched in the face before he will push back? If the Blues had hurt Jimmy would anyone have stood up? When Kronwall was hit from behind did anyone do anything? I think that the current roster could be contenders this year if they would dig down and grow some balls when the going gets tough but until then it looks like it may be a first or second round exit team. Flame away.

No, you're wrong. See, I can play that game too. Bent over at 90 degrees? You realize I can freeze frame too, right? And at the point of contact he is far from bent over 90 degrees. Even if that was true, through the entire hit Stevie's legs are nearly straight up. He's only bent at the waist. That's not a low brige. Lowbridging is when you bail completely out of a hit, essentially falling or ducking way down so your body primarily contacts the guys knees, which is why it is dangerous. It was essentially like a hip check, which happens sometimes when a guy is going at you high. But if you stay upright like Stevie did, it's more of hip to hip contact. Making contact with Pronger's knees? You remember that Pronger was the one doing the hitting, right? Any knee contact is his own damn fault. It's not like Yzerman flared out a knee or anything. Yzerman didn't go low on Pronger. He was the one being hit. He just turned and bent to protect himself from getting a mouthful of elbow and stick. It's good to have fans from other teams here and get an outside perspective, but you're losing credibility with every post.

I only saw the highlights (or lowlights as the case may be) but I love this quote from Jimmy regarding getting hit in the crease. It's sad that our goaltender has to be the one making guys pay the price for coming in the blue paint, but at least someone is. Jimmy bringing a little Hextall!

    Jonathan Ericsson Watch Thread

This will most likely end up being a thread in which to rag on Ericsson. Tonight, he yet again suffered a hideous lapse of awareness. It's beyond me what he thought he was accomplishing by watching Vlasic and drifting into the slot.

I highly doubt Holland would waive Ericsson. Good luck getting free agents to come here with a GM dismissing players a couple months into a new contract.

    Fistric destroys Niederreiter

I think it's less trying to take the hitting out of the league, and more taking the "no respect for your fellow players" hits out of the league. This is not one of those, unfortunately, and in this case, I think the league got it wrong. They're human, after all, so they're going to make mistakes, but this is just an example of a clean hit being misjudged.

i also posted a slow mo hd video of the hit that clearly showed it, you are just wrong on this one, sorry. he shows a frame after he made contact and freezes it. The second part applies to stuart and kronwall.
  9. 1 point
I've seen the video (not jolly's crappy screencap, but an actual video with more than one frame) showing how he jumps into the hit. If Kronwall and Stuart explode into the body with their feet still on the ice, they will be fine. If not, they will earn a suspension and life will go on.

I thought this thread wasn't about Fistric, but rather Kronwall and Stuart. If you want to discuss the Fistric hit, haroldsnepsts was kind enough to point you to two other threads discussing the topic, including one you even made.

When your feet leave AFTER contact, it is because of the process of using your legs to propel yourself into a player, which is usually upwards. When you leave your feet BEFORE contact, you are essentially dead weight in the air (due to there being no fulcrum at the ice where you can be knocked backwards more easily) and can cause a lot more injury to a player's body, including the head. The Shanaban video shows Fistric left his feet before contact. That is a charge. Stuart had at least one foot on the ice before contact. Or are you blind?

Now St. Louis has our number, along with San Jose . Why do friends or ex-coaching staff of Babcock always get the best of him ??

Our PK has never been the same as it was in 2008 ever since Babs stopped using Pavs and Z consistently on one of the PK units. He needs to have SET PK UNITS because right now it seems that he just throws random players out there and that there are no disignated units. PK1: Datsyuk- Zetterberg Lidstrom- White PK2: Helm- Filpulla Kronwall- Stuart I think these 2 penality killing units would CONSISTENTLY get the job done.

Check the replay. He pushes on Perron. He doesn't throw haymakers. Also, Perron isn't any more likely to receive a concussion if he has been cleared for play after receiving one. If he does have more of a risk, that is his doctors fault for clearing him too early. Howard didn't punch Perron in the head. Also Howard has gone after Crosby before in the same manner. Link to quotes? Howard was right to react to having a player run over him. Much better than just sitting there and taking it.

Howard felt he got run and defended himself. That isn't bush league at all. Did you say the same thing when Miller went after Tootoo? Also, if St. Louis sports talk is focused on a single penalty when they were the beneficiary of plenty of ridiculous calls THEIR way which came in a game THEY WON, your city has some issues.

Let's recap. The Wings wing their first 5 then go 0-5-1 and LGW melts down. So what do they do next. They go 11-2. Yes, eleven wins, two losses. They follow that with 2 close losses to Colorado and St. Louis, both on the road. They are in the top 5 in the league in GFA, GAA, Shots, Shots Against, points, and win percentage. Jimmy is near the top of the league in wins, GAA, and save %. But still, the two losses result in a meltdown on LGW.... Dump Z and bring up Nyquist. Unbelievable

It's not just that he sucks, but that he isn't punching anyone in the face over his growing frustration with his play. That, makes him useless.

Although I had no issue with the title, you have to remember, we live a world of not just PC, but God forbid you offend anyone at anytime. Even my innocent use of the name God just offended someone, somewhere. We live in a world today where these type of people just turned Cookie Monster into Vegetable Monster, they want Bert and Ernie to declare themselves ***, the call a manhole and personhole and they also convinced courts that McDonalds is the reason for most obesity, never-mind the fact that these obese people eat McDonalds 4-5 times a week and don't move out of their seat except to get another Bon-Bon. McDonalds doesn't make people obese, the people do that themselves. Now, my kids, who happen to be nowhere near obese, who happen to love McDonalds fries, have to get LESS fries in their Happy Meal because these people pressured McD's into putting a smaller fry box in the meal and automatically giving them apples. My kids don't like apples, why force them on us? Now, instead of getting what they want, they get less of what they like and the apples go in the trash. I wish these people would just keep their business to themselves and leave my life alone...if I want apples, I will ask for apples! ..sorry, anyhow, the fact that this hit is even going to a phone hearing is about as dumb as calling someone a chairperson rather than a chairman. The small tidbit that TSN wrote says he appears to leave his feet and hit him in the head? UH.....ok are the people making these rules the same people who said the reason Pronger's hit on Holmstrom in 2007 was not illegal, but because of simple physics? Well using simple physics, that is the reason he appeared to leave his feet, from the force of the hit, he did NOT leap up into him. The NHL got it wrong from the start and they need to admit it. If the play was so fast and "looked" like he hit him in the head, stop, review the replay and penalize from there if it's warranted. Every re-play I have seen, this hit isn't a penalty by any aspect of the word penalty. I wouldn't say it was a deathhit, but he sure did kill him with it!

Thanks for the great feedback last month everyone! I do like the inclusion of the Grand Rapids Griffins schedule, but I'm trying to find an effective way of applying it to the current rendition without it getting too busy -- especially at smaller resolutions. Speaking of (slightly) smaller resolutions: You can now use the LGW Calendar Schedule Wallpaper on your iPhone4/S and your iPad/2! The iPhone4 version is specifically formatted for your lock screen. I'd love your feedback on these! (Specifically the iPad version -- I don't personally own one, so I wasn't able to test the layout against any pre-existing lock screen issues like I could with the iPhone4. Also, I'm definitely open to adding versions for Android devices -- but I'd base it on the highest, most-popular screen resolution and I'd need a template guide to avoid the same on-screen o/s features.) Enjoy! Widescreen: 1920x1200 | 1920x1080 | 1680x1050 |1440x900 | 1366x768 | 1280x800 4:3: 1600x1200 | 1400x1050 | 1280x960 | 1280x1024 iPad & iPad2: 1024x1024 iPhone 4 & iPhone 4S: 640x960
