    Zetterberg Trade Rumor

Maybe the minus ticks are because this isn't even a rumor, this is unsubstantiated pap. It's like the beginning of Take It On The Run by REO Speedwagon: "Heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who, heard it from another that Hank might be traded for Stephen Weiss." This is less than a rumor.

If Zetterberg's name is in the rumor and the other name is anything short of Ovechkin or Stamkos or Malkin then don't believe your friend's brother's uncle who lives next door to Holland's bastard child's half brother's nephew, who just happens to bank at the same place as Kory Kocur...

Why are you guys such non-believers? I've talked with Jarome Iginla on several occasions over the last six months, and he tells me he'd love to win a Cup before his career is over.

How about Hank for the GWG?
  10. 2 points
Ok ok, clutch goal, but Datsyuk made the play. I would say it was a clutch stick on the ice more than anything. Even kory kocur would've scored on that pass....clutch redirect!

I've been saying it since the 2010 playoffs, but someone on our team needs to man up to Doan. He always runs our players and acts like some tough dude, instead of acting like a 35 year old man with a broken hip. Babcock needs to call this team out.

Nobody panic; Shero proclaimed that they're making the playoffs. So he must have gotten a call from Bettman or something.

Well, I can clear all this up real fast. Hank and I are sorta FWB, so the next time I see him, I'll ask him if he's going anywhere. After he laughs and says he'd never leave me (such a sweetie, that one), I'll say I mean is he leaving the Wings. He'll say no, I'll post it here, and we'll all put this behind us. Done.

It should be at Comerica because the major reason for having it at the Big House is for NHL profitability and recognition over the home team's city. Whereas the Winter Classic is a major stage for both the two teams and the NHL, in my opinion, holding the event at the Big House majorly downplays the Red Wings and the city of the Detroit and instead bolsters Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan, and the NHLL. While I would like the fact that my chances of attending would be much greater at the Big House with the 100,000 extra seats, and the fact that viewing the actual game is much better in a football field over a baseball field, think about it - Detroit, the city where the team resides, goes majorly overlooked. The other venue that the owner of the team has control over - goes entirely unused. If you look at past Winter Classics, every single venue used has a connection with the city and the team. EG, Buffalo Sabres play where the Buffalo Bills play. U of M doesn't directly have a connection with the Red Wings in the fact that they do not also house a major professional team of the area. While I think it would be great to have it at the Big House, I agree it should be at Comerica and it would be a departure from the NHL's current Winter Classic formula to have it at the Big House. Why should the city of Ann Arbor, where the majority of the population is college students, several from around the country, be rewarded with the Winter Classic instead of Detroit? I understand that Ann Arbor is really not that far away from Detroit, but to me, this is like holding the Super Bowl at the Big House over Ford Field because it is a grander stage. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Wings have been in the exact same position recently enough for me to not open my mouth about this.

    Congrats to Jimmy & Pavs

Gee, I wonder why Mr. Clutch never gets picked to go.... after-all, he IS the most clutch player in the NHL, right? Oh and that scrub Hossa, he never goes either....oh wait... But ya, congrats to Datsyuk and Howard. It'll be awesome to see if Dats and Hossa team up for some highlights like the time Hossa had 40 goals and Pavel had nearly 100 points that year playing along side him...sure glad Franzen is Pavs line-mate now instead of Hossa... But oh well, Mr. Clutch will prove me wrong! (one day?...maybe?...sometime?...soon?...please?...just once?) Ya for Jimmy, he deserves it and I hope he shines!

I can't speak for Newfy, but it seemed to me that he was suggesting the team in '08 was not as soft as the current team, a sentiment I agree with. The '08 team was probably not the toughest in the league, but as Newfy points out, they had some balance and some bottom-six guys who played much more physically than any players on the team now as a unit. I would not call that team "soft" in relation to the current team, that's the point. Also, I don't think this team can "win now". Yes, anything is possible; I could win the lottery tomorrow. That doesn't mean I think it will happen. With this roster, I think the probability of the Wings winning a cup is very small. It breaks my heart to say, and every time I watch a game where they just get out-competed, but I don't think the current roster is good enough. Skilled enough, maybe, but you need more than that. The fact that you disagree with that assessment does not make it a "fact" that posters like Newfy are ignoring; it's your opinion that this team can win now. If they win the cup with the current roster, I will admit my assessment was wrong. Until then, please stop treating it as a given that anyone is "ignoring". Finally, no one is trying to turn "remembering fondly" into a causal relationship. Some posters are using a correlation to go with their opinion that more toughness is needed; some are also discussing studies that seem to provide some (again, correlational) evidence in support of having toughness or fighting. But please, don't extrapolate from other posters' arguments and use contrived conclusions to support your own argument. A strong opinion that you happen to disagree with is not "histrionics".

I dont discredit toughness being a factor in winning Cups but to say that the reason the Red Wings havent won the Cup in the past few years because they dont have a guy in the line-up who plays less than 5 minutes per night is just simply ridiculous. Don is a great Canadian but his time has come and gone.

Very good point. Don't want that bad karma. I vividly remember the Wings fielding an on-ice roster that was below the salary floor due to mass injuries.

    2012 Draft

Yakupov just got injured yesterday, so he will now slip in the draft and Wings pick him with the 30th pick.
