My boss is friends with Shawn Burr and he was telling me that during a big on ice brawl one time Burr hit Gretsky.....the next time the two teams played the Wings coach sent Burr out on to the ice without Probert or Kocur..... and when Burr saw McSorley matching up with him on the puck drop he realized he didnt have Probie or Kocur with him and he tried to skate back to the bench....the Wings coach apparently stopped him from getting back on the bench and told him "You need to learn that you don't hit 99"... he then preceded to have his face pounded in by McSorley....just shows how much respect they had for stars back in the day and how well the enforcer system actually worked. I mean a coach allowed his own player to have his ass beat for being a little rough with an opposing star lol gotta get rid of that instigator rule.....do-gooders think theyre helping people but they're just destroying the sport we love, the sport our parents loved, and the sport they're parents loved.....my kids won't even know what real hockey is by the time the baby-proofers get done with it

I second this, I have about a dozen or so non-wing hockey fan friends and not a single one of them has any lack of respect for Datsyuk. No one can replace Yzerman, but Dats sure as hell followed in his footsteps in how he carries himself as a person.

Aside from the obvious Yzerman or Lidstrom i'd say Kanstantinov or Fisher (without either of them having their futures ended like they did). Probert is an awesome one too! Fedorov too if he would have retired as a Wing.

Or Vladdy. His career ended WAY too soon. Could have helped us get 2 or 3 more cups on top of the 4 we already got. Beat me to it while I was reloading the page.

When you see him, tell Hank "Boogidieboogidieboo" for me, he'll know what it means.

i completely disagree with eliminating fighting in the sense that it would cause more harm. it would give everyone a free pass to go play dirty, go throw a hard ass hit folding a top 3 skater. then what? we just scream, "hey! stop that please!" fighting has a place and time in hockey, unfortunately thats what's changed over the generations. everyone looks to fight when its not needed.

Pierre McGuire. He knows more about hockey than anyone else in the world. Don't believe me? Just ask him.

It would be cool if coaching and home ice had variable effects on the game too. Maybe a couple times a game you could hit a button that got the "lets go red wings" chant going and that adds 5 skill points to each player for 30 seconds or something.

Absolutely not. Having to answer for clean hits is a huge problem in the game right now. Players take offense to anything it seems like. If Kronwall was running people in a dirty fashion, then I would understand.

I liked him as a Shark. Did we even offer him anything, or does just no one want to sign with Detroit?
