Better to have these injuries now than in April...............I mean April 2014, when we actually have an NHL playoff again.

I bet Samuelsson shot the puck that hit him...

I think an "A" is a little generous. At best, I would give it a "C". Love the Tootoo move to add a different element to an already strong bottom-six. Not really thrilled about signing an aging Samuelsson (again) and expecting him to contribute offensively in a top-six role. The top-six has really been stagnant for years -- Zetterberg and Datsyuk have to generate everything offensively and in the playoffs especially lately, we don't have forwards that can score goals in tight games. Filppula had a terrific breakout season. Can he duplicate it or even get better? We all know what Franzen provides. The other two spots belong to maybe Bertuzzi and Samuelsson? I have said it in other threads previously discussing the off-season, but the Red Wings are going to need Nyquist and/or Brunner to contribute immediately whenever hockey resumes. The defense is bad. Losing three of your top four d-men in two years is not a good situation especially when one of them is Nick Lidstrom. Obviously there's no replacing him and Holland did his best to secure the closest thing in Suter. I can't get upset over that, but it does bother me more wasn't done in advance when it was clear Nick's days were winding down and Stuart was going back to California. Colaiacovo is a decent depth signing (if healthy), however, who logs big minutes on this defense now besides Kronner? You are asking for major leaps out of Quincey and Ericsson, plus rapid development from Smith. I think all of that is certainly possible, but it's a rather scary position to be in. A lot of things would have go to well for the Red Wings to even win a playoff round with this roster. Remember, they won ONE game last spring with Lidstrom around. The transition to being younger, bigger and faster is finally taking place at least.

NHL Officially Cancels 2013 Winter Classic

This is exactly why owners do lockouts...they have nothing to lose...everyone says they're angry and they're done with the NHL blah blah blah...but just as the owners don't change, neither do the fans. They continue to allow the NHL to treat them like dung, and then keep complaining about it and then go back like sheep and buy tickets and Center Ice and the rest only to let the same thing happen again. It's like Rihanna continually going back to Chris Brown and then being shocked when he smacks her around again.

@tpanotchCSN: Union source says both sides still talking. Get ready to turn clocks back for 1 extra hr to talk! by my estimation of watching twitter timeline, this meeting started around 4pm. so they're going on 7hrs now. these are the kinds of meetings that should have been going on months ago

Screw that. That was the song and dance we got in 2005. We'll get it again in another 5 years or so when the CBA that they finally commit to expires. Part of me wants to go back to the 80s. We sucked, but there was no lockout looming. Ever. Another part of me wants to travel back in time and give Gary's parents a condom. This game was HUGE for me. HUGE. Locking all of us out and losing the WC is just too much.

Right, and you know there will be another Lockout in 6 years anyway, so what's the point in trying to throw a CBA together? With this current bunch of morons, nothing get's fixed. 50/50 isn't going to fix anything. The Owners need to share revenues better, instead of letting teams like the Leafs sit on massive profits while Phoenix rots, and the city of Glendale pays Millions and Millions to keep the team. The current system is insane!

Actually I gave you five links to choose from, four from professional sports writers and one from his coach. But that's neither here nor there. I'm actually here to apologize, I had no idea what a tremendous hockey scout you were, so much so that you defy all the scouting reports about Brunner, including those of the Penguins, Lightening, and the Detroit Red Wings own Ken Holland and Mike Babcock, who had this to say about Brunner, "The thing for us is he’s high, high paced, he scored, looks like he has tons of skill." Please don't forget about all of us lowly fan forum members after you make it big as an NHL scout and/or coach and/or general manager. You have a very promising career ahead of you.

Another great job done by our great commissioner, I hope whoever owns the Leafs now and Illitch are going to speak up finally against this undersized idiot. God job of killing yourself NHL what a s***job. Isn't it funny? The by far best WC logos are the ones without the damn BS logo on them *lol* but whatever the league just shot themselves in the foot even more. I hope it was worth it for some of the crying poor owners and their midget, f*** the NHL seriously. I didn't care that much about the WC itself but seeing the perfect human one more time would have been great. This ******* has now cost us: - WC - 1 year of Y - 2 years of Datsyuk - 2 years of Zetterberg - 1 year of the perfect human - Wings owner millions of $ so he can pony up his stupid sunbelt and micky mouse clubs

    Where would you go?

I can see both alternatives...wanting to stay close to family, and yet expanding your horizons by going to a different place. I kinda envy Drew Miller playing in Scotland...I've always wanted to go there, it's a beautiful country, English speaking (if you can get past the brogue), great pubs, wonderful music, history up the ying yang...what more could you ask for?

    Where would you go?

There is a fourth option being overlooked: I wouldn't play at all. I wouldn't feel right taking someone else's job, no matter how "temporary" it is.
