What the Wings are doing for the fans

You know what I want them to do for the fans? Win the Cup. Then let each of us spend a day with it. (Not holding my breath on that one.)

I want to see them pull off a hot dog eating contest for the fans. If you can beat Larry Murphy, you get a free 9 game ticket package for 2.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

Agreed, he hasn't played like one since he was with Florida. He would most likely cost too much for me to be interested as well. But I just can't help but feel that Bouwmeester would be such a good fit with Kronwall and the Red Wings. The reach, skating ability, positional awareness, and pass all are strengths that Bouwmeester still has. Yes his numbers have not been good, yes he is not worth 6+ million a year. But he's not Wade Redden, he's still top pairing guy, that plays 82 games every year and plays every facet of the game. He would be a better fit than Yandle, Yandle is a very good to elite defenseman, but he is purely offensive, much like Kronwall, he doesn't play the penalty kill, he won't block shots, he's not overly physical(granted Bouwmeester isn't either). Yandle just doesn't fill a need for me with this current red wings defense, I don't think him and Kronwall's game mesh well enough they are too similar in taking offensive risks, we desperately need a top 4 guy that can kill penalties, play on the powerplay, stay healthy and be a rock for 20+ minutes a game.

Holland has also been to the playoffs every season since 2002, won 7 division titles, 3 Presidents Trophies, 2 Western Conference championships, and 1 Stanley Cup. I'd say not trading roster players has worked out pretty well for him.

Free agency is usually a better option. We have had a roster that has proven to be back to back Stanley Cup contenders so there hasn't been a need to drastically change the teams make-up(which very well can change post-Lidstrom), and we have had little cap space, which makes it tough to trade roster players for roster players. Another reason is the cost of a lot of these players, I was really high on the wings going for Brent Burnsa while ago, but San Jose really really overpaid for him, and made their team worse in my opinion. San Jose had to give up a pretty good second line player on a great contract(setoguchi), their best prospect at the time(Coyle), and a first round pick. We would have given up Filpulla, Smith/Nyquist, and a first for Brent Burns, or maybe even more considering Filpulla's contract isn't as valuable as Setoguchi's. Personally I'm glad we passed on Burns, and tried our luck going after Suter. That's just one example, but other than Burns there hasn't been that many #1, or #2 defenseman traded the past few seasons, especially ones that would fit with Kronwall's style.

i think holland's trade record should be judged on the players that he has brought in rather than simply looking at the players that he has traded away.

Simple answer. Pasha center first with filp on the wing, and Hank mans the 2nd line. Line adjustments happen, people don't always play their natural position. Cory Emmerton is a natural winger playing center? You should know this.

Like I'm giving those idiots any of my money. Nobody should pay it. Even if it was $5.99.

lol JBo's offensive output hasn't been worth his pay cheque in years. He gets more mins in Calgary than he would here, so why would you assume his production would increase significantly? The difference in mins should make up for the small difference in systems .

Crossing my fingers that Kenny can somehow pull off a Iginla/J-Bo trade at the deadline if indications are that Jerome won't re-sign in Calgary.

Our bottom six isn't the same without Helm in there.

What the Wings are doing for the fans

Just as the other lockouts, the Wings do absolutely nothing for the fans. They totally take the fans for granted. Like it would kill them to give a way some free tickets or merchandise, free pizza or something. Hey, we'll waive our outrageous fees for a few days. Really?

I say lots of freebies, tons of autograph signings and player meet and greets, plus severely discounted tickets so that fans will be enticed to return to the Joe and have more extra money to spend to help those who were really affected by the lockout--the downtown restaurant and bar owners and anyone else who's business has taken a hit from this.

Wings give Mike Knuble a tryout

I think this could be good for a shortened season and why not? More depth, hard working defensive minded forward. Blast from the past for sure! Give him a shot...

    Eaves Cleared for Contact

huh? i'm not whining about it. I'm just pointing out that the wings have a glut of forwards and only so many roster spots. it's a good thing to have actually

You appear to have ignored the fact that he's only cleared for contact. He is not cleared to play, and he is no doubt out of shape from not having worked out vigorously for a year. That said, I don't see why the return of a right-shooting player who plays with energy, can kill penalties, and can pitch in 15 goals would be something to whine about.

What I think is that this article of yours cites no sources whatsoever. It is, in its entirety, complete speculation. Even the claim that the Wings were interested in Bouwmeester last summer was never actually confirmed. People on this forum should really be more careful about examining the legitimacy and reputability of sources before putting stock into them. In my opinion, this thread belongs more in the 'Rumors' subforum than it does here. Phoenix is currently owned by the NHL and will not be making stupid trades. I doubt Phoenix will be making any trades at all, for that matter.

Free center ice or at least cheap would be good

That would be cool. Extra signings and appearances and all that. I don't live near enough to make it happen, but it'd be cool for those who can. I guess my point (lost in sarcasm and crankyoldladybitchiness) was that the NHL and teams will have to do a heck of a lot to make up for putting us through a lost half a season. At this point, pretty much anything short of a cup has the smack of the "our fans are the greatest- we knew you'd be back" crap they've been spitting at us. Both the team and the players are going to have to go all out to make up for making us sit here for months and listen to each other pretend like we know what we're talking about without ripping each others' ears off.

"Emdog" should be in a cage where he belongs, not on the ice.

I think it is all conjecture at this point. It seems as though they are just restarting the same trade rumours that we heard all summer long. When Holland makes a move then we can get our hopes up.

I'm sure he can help some team, but I just don't see the fit for us. We have enough offensively minded, small guys right now in the bottom 6. We need defensively responsible physical players, if we are looking to improve in the bottom 6.
