Time to pull the trigger on J-Bo?

Solution on D: Kronner - Big E Smitty - Q Laser - Dekeyser Kindl (Huskins) No need to waste a trade on big name defender....our D will continue to grow and gel. IF a trade is made it will be for scoring help...

Injuries are exactly the time when a player like Tatar should get top line minutes. Perfect opportunity to see what he's got with comparable linemates. When we're healthy he absolutely won't get a chance, we all know that. Underutilization of talent by Babs IMO. esteef

My guess on why that line exists, can be answered in photo form

Visors should be mandatory for all players entering the league. They're already use to them. There is not a single valid argument of why they shouldn't be mandatory. Players use to be against helmets, but sometimes you need to protect played from themselves.

Holland, Stan Bowman and Paul Holmgren sat down for a conversation with ESPN's Pierre LeBrun regarding possible trade mindsets for their respective teams. When the conversation came around to the Red Wings needs, Kenny Holland says the phrase we all know we LOVE to hear... (emphasis mine) LeBrun wraps up the Wings section nicely by pointing out the Wings would like a top-4 D man, but that might be hard to get come deadline time. I'd recommend giving the full story a read.

It's one of the many safety futures that players can choose to use, and it takes it a step further because almost all new players have been mandated to use it at lower levels. What should be mandatory? Visors, neck guards, kevlar socks, kevlar wrist bands, cuff length on gloves, etc? Where do we decide on which to mandate? There are plenty of extra safety features that players choose not to wear. I don't see why these players, being paid millions of dollars to play in the NHL, should not be able to decide if they want to wear a visor. If you want to argue the issue from the NHL GM/Owner's point of view for financial arguments, I can understand the argument, but I don't see why the players should not have a choice. IMO neck gaurds, softer pads, and mouthgaurds are more important. If visors are made mandatory, I would like to see a removable visor for fighting. I don't know if any company have experimented with this, but it would prevent a lot of hand injuries.

Time to pull the trigger on J-Bo?

Danny D would most definitely be a depth signing for this season, getting a few games in and maybe, MAYBE a couple of playoff games....next season though, with what looks like White headed out, even if Kindl re-signs there will be a spot for him because even if Colaiacovo doesn't get waived, he would get hurt and that would allow Danny a spot on the roster. Honestly there is no one else in GR ready to come up, as good as most of our D prospects are, they are all still at their junior clubs or college. Danny is 23 years old tomorrow and is ready to step in to an NHL spot. I hope it's with Detroit.... He can rotate with the ever present #7/#6 Kindl... Besides in two years, depending on what we are paying Howard/Brunner/Filppula/Smith/Andersson/Nyquist and Kindl, we have to re-sign Ericsson, Quincey (probably) and Dastyuk, not to mention players like Sheahan an Ferraro who would likely see some time up here now and then, having a nice EL contract with Dekeyser would provide some much needed cap relief in 2014...

    Datsyuk - Cleary - Abdelkader

We are 4-4-3 in our last 11 games. Take away the 8-goal trouncing we gave Luongo and the Nucks, and we're averaging just barely over 2 goals per game. If it wasn't for Howard coming around and heating up over the last stretch, we would be much, much worse off. That line isn't producing, and we need it to. Period.

I don't like this line either, but we are winning games. I think Babcock wants defense to win games until we get Filpula, Samuelson, and Helm back. Offensively, it isn't great, but they don't give up goals either.

not to stray away from the NHL but it wasn't mandatory in NASCAR to wear what's called the HANS device until they lost Dale Earnhardt in 2001. Sure it was always an option and available, but drivers hated wearing it and drivers like Earnhardt and Tony Stewart among others refused to do so. Even after his death the device met with a lot of resistance, but today there isn't a driver who would think twice about NOT wearing it. NASCAR and US Motorsports just made it mandatory within all sanctioned stock events and the "kids" "grew up" using the device and now it is like second nature to them...even the old guys that were around before 2001 now have been wearing in for over a decade and it has become a part of their car, not just a cumbersome restraint system... The same would happen with the NHL if they adopted the visor and Kevlar protection, it about 5 or so years, nobody would even think about what it was like without it... who was it back in the early 90's that wore what looked like football shoulder pads with a protector that was behind his helmet? If I figure it out and find a picture, I will post it....I think he played for the Sabres, but am not sure....

I say no, but as with the other PSE you mentioned, I have a feeling that soon all of it will be. There is just no reason why they shouldn't be. Right now in the USA most kids grow up using the ear guards on their helmets and neck guards, it will ne just a matter of time until it is SOP for our kids to start using all the stuff you mentioned so by time they get to college, junior, NHL it won't affect their play at all because they grew up with it and would have learned the game with it from day one. Much like the helmet now, NHL players wouldn't even think about ever playing without it, and soon it will that way for the visor, Kevlar, neck guards, etc...none of which, as you said, restricts play at all... You would think that a huge company like Under Armor would partner with the NHL and lessor leagues, even into college levels and develop a body suit (or shirt pant combo) than has the Kevlar in it. With all the recent injuries due to skates, sticks and pucks, it's a no brainer...and speaking of brainer, the concussion is a whole other conundrum...

Yeah this line needs to go. I know we are thin because of injuries but there are options out there. I don't see why Z has both Franzen and Brunner on his wing. Let Franzen play with Datsyuk, and then preferably throw Tatar on that line. Franzen-Datsyuk-Tatar sounds a whole lot better than Clearly-Datsyuk-Abdelkader. I'd love Nyquist to be called up for a spot on that second line with Z and Brunner, and then when Fil comes back he slots into that spot. I hate being one to pretend I know more than an NHL coach, but this line is just frustrating to watch and it is getting a little baffling as to why it is still together when everyone can pretty plainly see it isn't working.

    Howard = Average

I googled similier and it's actually not a word. The only goalie in the past 20 years that hasn't used stupid huge pads is Brodeur. He is the best goalie ever to play the game and he doesn't cheat and he doesn't get rattled. Howard has been a ******* superstar the past 5 games that's for sure. Problem is that aside from the game in Vancouver, we can't seem to get the bounces to top 2 friggen goals.

Last night wasn't just about talent, though. He put forth a good effort, got in the right places to score and looked to be a step quicker than in previous games. Take away the goal, and he still created lots of chances and had a solid game. Really hope he can continue to push it.

If Kenny can't realize that a player like Lashof is one the best current DEF and he's not going after top 2 D, he's stupid. We need to get rid of; Q, Carlo the glass, White... and bring some true D

Just watching him float is frustrating. But, when you take into account the investment put forth by the Wings (Ilitches) and his size, it is beyond frustrating. Our last two captains haven't really had to be that vociferous but maybe Hank needs to do some calling out. Babs won't bench any top money guys.

The parity era has, as was made obvious last season, made deadline prices prohibitive to most teams. With that, I'm done with this thread, because the level of negativity herein is overwhelming.

Holland is a broken record. "The powerplay is our enforcer" "We like our team" "Getting our injured guys back is our deadline addition" "Our prospects are overripe in the minors"
  23. 1 point
No, they have similiar skills. Hossa uses his and frnazen does not. That is the difference. If we could merge Cleary's heart and effort with Franzens natural God given talent, we would have a 50 goal scorer. But at 33 years of age, that just isn't happening.
  24. 1 point
This is definitely true. But if he was on his game every night, do you think we'd be paying him the same amount? I totally get the frustration here, but I think some people think that it would be perfectly natural to have a 40-50 goal-scorer (as he almost certainly would be if he tried) for under 4 million/yr. Realistically, this is why long term bargain contracts are bad. He IS earning the money that he's making, whether people like to admit it or not. There's just an infuriating amount of potential that he refuses to tap into.

    This or That

Old school. The new ones take a while to warm up, you can't flick them on and off as needed in the same way that you can the old ones, and they've got nasty powdered poison inside. We had them at my weekend job but went back to the old style. My church got them recently and there was a lot of discussion about it. I learned enough to know that as for me and my household, we will use the old bulbs. Environmentally conscious is a good thing, but you still need to weigh the pros and cons. Kings, Ducks, or Sharks?
