Part of me wants to see DeKeyser sign but the dark part of me wants to see him go somewhere else just to see LGW explode...you know fire & brimstone coming down from the skies, rivers & seas boiling, forty years of darkness, eathquakes, volcanos, the dead rising from the grave, human sacrifice, dogs & cats living together...mass hysteria

When Rafalski retired totally out of the blue, he did do something. He signed Ian White, who played decent last year. When Lidstrom retired, he agressively pursued Suter, but was unable to sign him for reasons beyond his control. He knew Stuart had to leave the team for family reasons and acquired Kyle Quincey, who at the time was considered a good young defenseman. The Rangers got Nash, they got Brad Richards, they got Marion Gaborik. They've got the superstar goalie. Where are they in the standings? You can get all the "stars" and still suck. I know everyone thinks there's some magical formula to put together a winning team, but there isn't.

Calgary had lost in the first round four consecutive seasons before Bouwmeester's arrival. The inability to retool was in place already. It just continued on in Bouwmeester's time there since. I don't know how Bouwmeester is supposed to control poor management decisions.

Quincey had one year of playing 23 or minutes Bouwmeester has 9 years, and 8 of playing 25 or more. I just think Bouwmeester can reach a higher level playing for a team that can actually make the playoffs. I can't think of many players that can bring their A game every night for a team that doesn't have a chance. I feel the risk for Bouwmeester isn't high, the very least we get a guy that can play 23 minutes and save Kronwall some penalty kill time. The potential is we get a 6'4 defenseman, that can skate like the wind, and fillls an important spot on this team that can allow Kindl, Smith and Lashoff to grow into their roles while not having to do too much. Yandle to me is a rover type guy, I don't not like him. I just don't think his offense will solve enough of this team's issues. We give up entirely way too many odd man rushes and high percentage scoring chances. And that's because we have too many risk takers on the back end. White, Smith, and Kronwall pinch entirely too often. And Yandle would most likely join that club quickly. While Bouwmeesters range can alleviate that problem for one of those guys.

An plug that plays 25 mintues a night... Bouwmeester is not a plug. He may not be elite, or even very good. But he is a top pairing guy in this league, and he's never been on a good team. It depends on the price for me.

5-2 on the two combined road trips is pretty damn good. Started and ended poorly, but otherwise they came out strong during the roughest portion of the schedule. Expecting a much more entertaining game on Sunday.

Why the eff is Cleary now on the 2nd line with Hank?!? Jesus christ Babcock needs to get over his man crush for Cleary. Cleary is fine on his 3rd line but does not belong on the top 2 lines. Also Franzen is doing nothing for me on Pavel's line. I think Brunner has a lot of jump this game and is creating some chances and SHOOTING THE PUCK. Seriously take Franzen off Datsyuk's wing, and move him down to the third line and give Brunner a chance with Datsyuk.

I thought of a possible scenario. He didn't want to announce anything tonight, because he's actually on his way back to Detroit. Tomorrow morning he will announce that he will be signing with his hometown team in his hometown. The Wings won't be flying out until the morning so I doubt they will be there, but it sounds like a possibility! Hey.. a man can dream.

Yes, but it has little to do with Parise and Suter. That being said, had better decisions been made in the preceding years, I think we would've had those guys signed easily, maybe for less than Holland even ended up offering. We overpaid for unproven mid-level talent on the hope that it'd blossom in time, instead of underpaying legit stars (who you could afford to rig up with a long contract for a low cap hit because their declining years would be stronger than most mid-level guy's peaks) when we had the leverage. We were constantly caught scrambling in the off-season, failing to secure talent, left to chase scraps, and if you don't think that that has an impression on how outsiders view our team, you are absolutely kidding yourself. Had we made wiser moves and been more aggressive to replace top-end talent, we still would likely be "chasing scraps" due to cap issues, but the story would be phrasing it as "bargain hunting." And those "bargains" would end up looking a lot more like descent low to mid-level guys while playing alongside a top notch core. We're not a bottom of the barrel team, but we are no longer a top-tier team. It's not like we weren't one of the few remaining teams in the conversation for Suter and Parise, though from what was said after the fact, Parise seemed less interested in coming here than Suter. But I guess at the end of the day, all the more so if nothing happens between now and the deadline, not landing Suter and Parise certainly will be hanging in people's minds more in the future as more people continue to ponder this question.

I don't think the connection between Bouwmeester and his teams missing the playoffs is really fair at all. He has played for Florida and a Calgary run franchise that has no plan besides to linger in mediocrity.

Wanted him when he left pit. Was disappointed when he left the NHL. Wanted him when he came back. Wanted him when he chose Dallas. I still want him in the Winged Wheel sweater. Of all the gambles we have taken and lost out on, this would be the least upsetting one to me if it didn't work out. That being said, the only way he could hurt us is if he got injured right after getting him.
