Franzen is back, Cleary to be scratched
Motown4013 reacted to TheDetroitRedWings for a post in a topic
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2013311110084 I'm actually shocked that Babcock is finally holding Cleary accountable for his total lack of contributions so far this season. Maybe Kenny is starting to realize that signing Cleary when we already had too many forwards was probably not the smartest move (and I love Kenny). Not to mention it forcing us to send Nyquist down to GR, when obviously he should be a permanent regular with the big club. -

I wonder if he's got some "injury." There seems to be a lot of those going around on the Wings lately. -

Let's Get Stevie Y to Join the Alumni!
evilmrt reacted to Spongewingredpants for a post in a topic
unfortunately, the captain seems to have no interest in this game. probably a combination of broken body and the fact that its too close to his retirement and he moved on. All of that I sort of get. Unfortunately, it does come across a bit as being arrogant. Just say why you can't play and people will move on -

Let's Get Stevie Y to Join the Alumni!
Euro_Twins reacted to BottleOfSmoke for a post in a topic
Ok, I'm going to come in here for a short rant because I'm feeling surly this fine Monday morning. Disclaimer: this pertains to the topic at hand, but is directed at the media covering this kerfluffle and not so much about any of the opinions expressed in this thread. I want Steve Yzerman to participate in the AG as much as anyone. He is My Captain, the man I grew up watching lead this team longer than all others. I paid good money for my AG tix, and would love nothing more than to get the opportunity to piss my pants over seeing Stevie on a line with Feds again (because I like to party, natch). That being said, I am sick and fricking *tired* of the BS ENTITLEMENT being expressed in so many of the articles covering the issue. "Stevie owes it to THE FANS!!!111!!1!1" NO. No he doesn't. He gave up his heart, soul, body, you name it to this team when he was captain. He owed it to the fans for 23 years, a promise he made good on time and time again. He owes us NOTHING more than he has already given. People saying they're "losing respect" for Yzerman's legacy because he's being noncommittal about attending the AG? Good grief! Short of flying in by helicopter and taking a dump on JLA, there's not much Stevie could do that would make me lose respect for his legacy. That includes not giving a rabbit fart about the AG. Whatever. TL,DR and all that. Happy Vets day to all who've served and the families that support them. -

Speculation regarding Franzen's ailment
FireCaptain reacted to dirtydangles for a post in a topic
If this ailment is true, buying out Franzen may be the best for the team in the long run, and may be best for Franzen. He still walks away with a boatload of cash and he would no longer have to deal with the pressure of NHL hockey. If we LTIR him he can't do anything and is handcuffed to the organization for a good long while. -

Speculation regarding Franzen's ailment
WingsAlways reacted to 55fan for a post in a topic
Yes. As long as he is on LTIR, the team is better financially than if he just retires whether due to injury or just wanting to retire. The days of "ok, I'm done now- wipe me off the books" are over and done thanks to the last lock-out (which people seem to have forgotten even happened). Pronger is a perfect example of this. Both the team and the player have acknowledged that he won't play again, but as long as he is on the books as LTIR, they are allowed to recoup salary as needed in order to get someone up to replace him. With Mule, if he isn't on the team, part (not sure how much) of his salary still haunts us. As long as he is on LTIR, we can use up to his cap hit to replace him. Considering that his cap hit isn't all that high (comparatively speaking) it's almost as though he isn't there. It seems high compared to other years because the cap went down this year, which left us in a tighter bind than usual. Generally we have some to spare. If he retires, we're financially screwed for the rest of his contract. If he goes LTIR, we can salvage things financially. The only point where it is an issue is at the start of the season where there is a day or two between pre-season and regular season where they have to lower the roster but don't count the LTIR guys. When that happens, we just send someone waiver-exempt down to GR on paper and bring them up again. We did it this season for Helm and Eaves. Unfortunately, most people have never dealt with a mental illness and don't see it as the same thing as Helm's back or Eaves' concussion. Neither of those injuries had any sort of time-table for return. Neither was something that an x-ray or MRI could pinpoint precisely. Both were the sort of injury where the treatment depended entirely on how the player felt. If Franzen is suffering from an illness of a mental sort (and I feel compelled to point out that we're all still SPECULATING), his treatment is just as difficult to foresee as the other guys' injuries. In short, LTIR is better for him and the team if he can't play for the foreseeable future. -

D Justin Schultz signs with Oilers
Frozen-Man reacted to Echolalia for a post in a topic
While I generally agree that more minutes on the ice equates to better development, I really think in Schultz's case (but moreso Edmonton's issue as a whole), the lack of a veteran presence will limit how good and how quickly Schultz can develop as a defenseman. -

11/9 GDT: Lightning 3 @ Red Wings 2 (OT)
derblaueClaus reacted to haroldsnepsts for a post in a topic
But this is the grass is greener syndrome. People want the young guys to play, but then they apparently don't even get a full season to see if they're any good before they should get the hook? Lashoff doesn't need to stand out. He's not really an offensive defenseman. But he's big, uses his size and has a decent first pass, and will probably get better. Like I said he's played 48 games in the NHL, so he's not nearly done developing. And he absolutely should be in the lineup because he doesn't make a lot of mistakes. That's a big part of his job. Consider how the Wings lost the game in OT last night. But you want to yank him because Almqvist, Oullet or Sproul might do something better? Sure Almqvist scored a goal when he jumped into the play that one time, but he also looked like the rookie that he is out there too. Lashoff can help provide mix of more stay at home guys to free up the d-men with more offensive talent. It's way too early to give up on him. -

Internet.Unknown reacted to dat's sick for a post in a topic
Whole team was awful, we had no business getting 1 point and much less 2. A win may actually have fooled Babs/Holland into thinking we are better than we are. Because we are not good. Must have been 20+ giveaways in our own zone tonight. Worst PP I've seen, nothing dangerous offensively except for 2 fluke deflected goals. Tampa had about 15 chances to kill the game in regulation. Win 2 Lose 2 Win 4 Lose 4 Win 3 Lose 3 For real? That is a ridiculous record and not good enough for the Red Wings. 1st order of business: getting Nyquist into the lineup. 2nd task: getting Quincey out of the lineup or giving him drastically reduced minutes. Get this team in order Holland/Babcock. This is far from okay and it's extremely frustrating to watch. -

Speculation regarding Franzen's ailment
LeftWinger reacted to haroldsnepsts for a post in a topic
It's all completely speculation at this point. If Franzen had issues managing his anxiety anytime while on the Red Wings, then Holland is an even bigger fool than I thought for giving him an 11 year contract based on a few good seasons. -
1 pointI fully understand the desire to have him in the game. Yzerman is one if my favorite players of all time. But, the guy has repeatedly said he does not want to play. I really don't like the idea of this petition. He doesn't owe us anything. This petition will only put pressure him to do something he does not want to do. Why are your desires so much more important than his? Edit: Also, you made an account here just so you could get more people to sign your petition. You're using the forum and its members to further your own selfish goals.
