Has anyone noticed this trend? 3 years now

How does training avoid Darren Helm's wrist injury? Or Pavel Datsyuk getting clocked in the jaw? Or Patrick Eaves taking a puck to the face? I realize people are upset by the injuries and are grasping at straws, but there just isn't any solid evidence that the Wings aren't well trained. Just exactly how do you train to avoid a concussion? Sure you can play smart to avoid open ice hits, but these aren't Eric Lindros/Scott Stevens type hits. I think the increased awareness has quite a bit to do with more players missing due to concussions.

Most recent posted projected lines earlier this evening were as follows... Nyquist-Zetterberg-Abdelkader Jurco-Sheahan-Bertuzzi Miller-Emmerton-Samuelsson Cleary-Glendening-Eaves Then it was later stated that Tatar was back in, Sammy is likely out. My mindset working with the lineups from practice today, that puts Tatar on the 2nd line in place of Sheahan bumping him to the 3rd. Knowing Glendening is also listed at RW he is likely less valuable than Eaves on that position putting Glendening on the 4th line RW spot kicking Eaves up to the 3rd and having Emmerton take 4th line center. It is projected, when it comes to making the graphics, updating it before gametime, and getting it posted up the night before because of my own personal schedule, sometimes there is a lot of guessing and speculating for lines and whatnot. Sometimes it's logical, sometimes it's like tossing darts because who knows what it's going to look like tomorrow.

I think part of it is because he's captain for his home country. He has a lot more ability to get the point across to his teammates if he can talk to them in their own language. I think that makes a big difference.

I'm sure Samuelsson has pride and that he'd rather be playing and isn't happy sitting out or playing few minutes when he does dress.

    1/16 GDT : Red Wings 0 at Rangers 1

he's a key injury not because we've always had him playing.. but because helm is a difference maker on the ice.

The Fallen Heroes section is cringe-worthy sad.

The injuries are alarming. This trend is actually older. 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014 all were derailed by injuries. 2012 was, too, but not as bad, relatively. It's training, has to be. It's every player, not just those "made of glass" and it's almost always a muscle strain or pull. Or a concussion. Neither of which is a toughness issue I don't think.

    Perspective?

Nobody saw them competing with the Blackhawks last season either. But we managed to take them to OT in game 7. Didn't the Wings have to win their last 4 last season just to get in? Weren't there just as many injuries playing the little wimpy Western Conference? Trade Jimmy Howard? That No Movement Clause may put a damper on that. Most teams are at or near the salary cap. A majority of the roster has a NTC or NMC, so making trades isn't an easy proposition. I can't think of another team that has so many starters out of the lineup. If the Wings were relatively healthy and were in the same position, it'd be a bit more disconcerting. But as someone else mentioned, with the salary cap and lack of high draft picks over the past 2 decades, a decline was inevitable. It would be nice if they were Championship contenders every year, but no team is in any sport is. It's not to say that I've agreed with every move Holland has made, but the Wings have been so good for so long, the fans have become spoiled. I don't want to see it all end either, but its going to happen sooner or later.

You aren't alone -- I completely agree with you about Bertuzzi. He consistently has quality linemates and PP time, yet contributes hardly anything offensively. Everyone focuses on Sammy and Cleary (rightfully so), but Bertuzzi has only been marginally better than those two. I would prefer all three to be healthy scratches when/if the Wings start getting bodies back. Sheahan, Jurco and Glendening all bring much more to the team already than those three. Needless to say, I will be very upset if any of these guys are back next season.

Nice save, but if the Flyers' player gets off a real shot there then that goes in the back of the net.

We haven't been very good in 3 years... when everyone except him is healthy we're a good team. With him, we're a great team. That's my opinion at least, I hope he moves past these injuries and stays healthy. Olympic break might be good for him.

That was a great team: they finished the season with a nine-game winning streak and a twelve-game unbeaten streak ('member those?), one of them being the "Richard Riot" game. At home, they finished with a five-game winning streak and an eighteen-game unbeaten streak. Away, they finished with a four-game winning streak and a six-game unbeaten streak. In the final two games, Montreal lead Detroit in the race for first overall and only needed one point to clinch in their last two games v. Detroit. That didn't happen, as Detroit won both games and their seventh consecutive Prince of Wales Trophy as League Champions, a record that will never be broken. Three one-goal shutout losses after the first forty-seven games ties with 1928-29 and 1954-55. Three one-goal shutout losses is also the Club record in a season, tied with 1928-29, 1954-55, 1969-79 and 2002-03.

The east isn't as good of a conference as the west. Stop trying to claim otherwise. The east isn't filled with "tougher" teams either, so don't play that card. Also, the Wings have 66% of their top 6 out. Their #2 D man is out. You can't compare a Stamkos injury to having 7 of your regulars out of the lineup.

Samuelsson, Bertuzzi and Cleary are gone next year for SURE. Those three players are costing us 7 million. Man, we could sure use ONE player that would be worth 7 million right about now.
