    Zetterberg out with herniated disc

Disagree with this completely. He's been better these past two seasons than the previous 4 seasons before that. His points per game has increased and he was on his way to shattering his previous point total record this season had he not gone down with the injury in December. Zetterberg was making headlines mid season due to his point tally and at one point was closing in on Crosby; until the herniated disc occurred. The season numbers speak for themselves and last years run to the playoffs do as well. The "C" on the jersey has brought us a new Henrik Zetterberg. He is no longer only a "euro twin", he's the leader/veteran of the one of the most successful franchises in NHL and he knows it. He gives it 120% night in and night out because he knows he HAS to. In fact, in one interview earlier this year, he mentioned that part of the reason why he had a good start this season was because he started his training earlier in the summer. That shows commitment and will. I guarantee you he will continue to excel as long as his back allows him to. He knows in his mind he has to continue the Yzerman/Lidstrom leadership in Detroit.

Unlikely, but why not have 50-50 split with can'eh'dian and swedish refs?

And while the US may be sad over the loss, at least you're not saddled with Rob Ford.

Stand pat. First time in awhile, I will actually defend Holland for "kicking the tires". The Red Wings weren't a player away from championship contention with Henrik Zetterberg and now they are down their MVP. I do wish the streak will remain intact, but I don't want to give up assets for a rental player or marginal impact player that won't change the Red Wings fortunes of borderline playoff team. Nyquist and Tatar are basically untouchable to me if they are going to be dangled for some "quick fix" just because Z is out. Hope Weiss and Franzen get/stay healthy, let Sheahan and Jurco continue to play and build a solid foundation for next season and beyond. Trade Quincey for whatever the hell you can get in return and use the cap space created from the dead weight being gone to fix the defense this summer.

It caused headlines in swedish media, but Sedin said he wasnt concerned about it, because the refs are professionals.

Great game. Battle to the end. Canada's overall defensive game is just suffocating(for both teams). Can't wait for Sunday! ps. I think waffles/pancakes with syrup is one of the grossest things you can have for breakfast. Batter and syrup to start the day? No thanks.

Dickie I agree on contract I wouldn't go more than 7 either. But if he plays with dat I do believe the offense on that line is centered around him. It's no secret dat is always in pass first mode so I do think his goals would go up just from that. After the juniors season is up can mantha play with the griffins then? I'm assuming juniors ends earlier than ahl does. If he has 50 all ready I gotta imagine he is ready to take that next step.

You're both wrong. Bacon in general in this entire continent blows. Bacon from overseas is where it's at. What we consider bacon out west is embarrassing lol

I think both teams were excellent. There wasn't much difference between the two teams. Every player worked their tails off. Desperation and suspense at its finest. Emotionally, I felt that this was the gold medal game because of the rivalry and they both play the North American game. Congratulations to BOTH teams.

Sounds like it was a simple discectomy (maybe not simple with the way they are describing a "floating piece" of disc). I had the same surgery about 4 years ago. With the disc pressing on any nerve, that pain was about 20 times worse than just the disc being degenerative. The nerve pain is what really stops you from doing your normal activities. With the disc no longer pressing on the nerve, he'll start feeling quite a bit better. I'm confident an athletically built Zetterberg with world class after-surgery care will be back to his normal self.

It might not have happened much. I do know for a fact that he spent at least a few hours in Kent County jail for drunk and disorderly when he was a Griffin. He got kicked out of a bar, wanted to go back in for his coat, then told the police "you can't arrest me, I Hudler, I hockey player."

I've just re-read this entire thread purely from an entertainment perspective (and because I'm procrastinating instead of working, but still) and have found myself enlightened. To summarise: A rather crazy suggestion was made that we should buy out either our franchise icon at present, our best player and captain, leader, heart and soul guy, or a guy who has firmly established himself as a 30 goal scorer in this league, a guy who is one of the most dominant offensive threats in the league when he's rolling and on his game. Subsequently, the statement was made that we don't have goalscorers, and that to overcome this problem we should trade either of the two aforementioned, who have combined to provide the Wings with 1/6th of our goals this year. As us fans often do, we look back retrospectively at what could have been, and thus the last 3 pages of this thread have been spent lamenting the fact that we didn't get Bobby Ryan and thus our entire front office is 'lazy', just like Franzen and even Bobby Ryan himself! Thus I feel compelled to add my 2 cents: No we shouldn't buy out our captain or Franzen, what kind of a message does that send to the rest of the players in the league for a start, to both players? Can we scrap this 'floater' term to describe a player who is lazy? Is annoying and wholly inaccurate in terms of describing a player's tendency when they're on the ice. Franzen IMO, is worth that much more than Vanek. 1. He has great chemistry within our team. 2. He's proven to score when we needed it most (see 08 playoffs). 3. His contract is an absolute bargain, in a league with a cap that will forever go up, once again driving up salaries and leading to another lockout when Gary can't face the fact that the Panthers are losing more than just the $100,000 a day that was rumoured this past week (and just to avoid another 'fact' argument here's the link with proof! http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/19/pols-support-panthers-bailout-plan-co-owner-says-team-is-losing-100k-daily/) and doesn't want to have them fold or re-loacte them to Quebec City Franzen may be infuriatingly inconsistent at times, but he's not lazy or a 'floater'. Surely most of us here have gone out there and played hockey on a regular basis (or any sport for that matter) and just had an 'off' game, when it doesn't all fit quite right and you know you haven't got it that day. You can argue they're paid to play, but everyone is human after all. And when he's hot, like he was for a lot of this year, it's incredibly exciting. I still believe in this team, with or without Z for the remainder of this year. You could classify me as being optimistic perhaps, but if Franzen and Weiss come back and are healthy and productive, with Howard getting his game together, and the kids staying up, why can't we squeeze into the playoffs? I see no reason why not.
