TSN POY: Hertl vs Gustav Nyquist

This voting contest really comes down to like 5-6 really committed fans spamming bots. So if Tatar wins, the five of you should pat yourself on the back for carrying him to victory!

The way these contests are won is dumb. I'm over it now. It should be one vote per email. This system proves nothing but who has the better tech guys.

In my opinion, I don't think it is cheating anymore than using redial to call a radio station for concert tickets. We're automating a task that gives us a better chance of success. It is a technological resource.

Lots of bots going on this final voting lol, look at the vote totals. I've had about 12 running all day :-)

McQuaid is better than Eneglland and he could be available. Gazdic is the perfect 4th liner. Z - Dats - Abdelkader Jurco - She - Nyquist Tatar - Weiss - Franzen *Gazdic* - Helm - Callahan LG Kronwall - Smith DeKe - *Niskanen/Boyle* (FA) Ericsson - *McQuaid/Engelland* Marchenko

I hope so. But they've let two golden opportunities slip by. Kane has been a force. And LA has played a lot of hockey already this playoffs. This will be their third consecutive game 7, and on the road. Hopefully Justin Williams and Richards can keep their game 7 dominance going and break the Hawks hearts in their barn. C'mon Kings, let's get that NY LA Cup final!

Davis Payne did the same thing with Blues and failed. Coach Babcock level of talent is a very, very rare thing to find. Not to say he should be given some ten year contract, but I wouldn't just let him walk away either, unless he personally just wants a change. I would say he is visibly frustrated, but then he always looks angry. When he smiles, I am concerned.

Damn it. As much as I absolutely despise the Blackhawks, they know how to win games when it matters. Have to give them credit because the Kings had all the momentum up 3-1 in the series and 3-2 late in an elimination game on their home ice. Fitting this series is going seven games. These are two excellent teams and this feels like the Stanley Cup Final, which is why Chicago can't win because there's no way the Rangers beat them. The Kings won't be overwhelmed by the situation having won two Game 7's on the road already in the playoffs at least. Just seems like a huge blown opportunity not finishing off Chicago tonight at home.

Isn't Thornton the guy who said he'd whip out his dick if he scored as many goals as Hertl? Could make for an interesting addition...

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

I agree with this, but I don't think it goes far enough. I want the puck mover. That's the top priority. But since the San Jose and Nashville series a few years ago teams have figured out that if you keep Detroit to the outside, and block shots, you'll beat them. In the playoffs we play EXCLUSIVELY from the perimeter. We need to get bigger and grittier. I don't mean fighters, or hulking fourth liners. I mean we need top six talent with enough size and toughness to play in front of the net. It's not surprising that guys like Carter, Bickell, Bourque are scoring in the playoffs. They go to areas that playoff goals get scored from. I'm not saying skill doesn't matter. It does (Gaborik is proving that every game). I'm saying we've got enough skill already and need to compliment it. One or two big bodied wingers who can score in the crease (sorry Abby) would probably increase our success.

Hopefully Adam Oates. He didn't do a great job in Washington, but when he was an assistant in NJ I really admired his work. He didn't have a ton of talent (Except Parise and Kovalchuk) and ran their PP on the run to the cup they had in 2012. He'd be a perfect fit since we're looking for a better PP set up. Plus he's got Detroit connections and Babcock connections (coached him in 03).

    2014 draft thoughts.

The talent just isn't there in this draft. Last year was the year to add a bunch of extra picks. We added 1, but 2-3 more would have been great. This year, after the first round-even then after the first 20, is a crap shoot. Yes some will turn out, but there just isn't much there that excites anyone.

Why waste time making an offer that's less than their reported salary demands? Callahan wants $6 mil per, Vanek wants $50 mil over 7 years. Neither are worth close to that. I don't go to Captain Cut and Paste's blog, I just go to milve and the Detroit paper sites directly, but I'm assuming Holland said they weren't going to get into a bidding war or something, unless the above post was it. In that case, it doesn't say he wouldn't give their agents a call. On Defense, I'd be happy to let Smith move into the top 4 and bring in a rookie for the third pair, and let Kindl and Lashoff fight it out for the 6 spot. People always say they want to give kids a chance, then demand that they go out and get vets to fill holes. Smith has 120+ NHL games in plus two playoff runs, and showed improvement. He deserves the shot.

I agree. I want to see 1 year stop gap contracts instead of 2 like Colo and Sammy. The only long term contract I would like to see in the offseason would be Moulson for 5 years max.
