Ehrhoff is a smart guy. Signed 1 year deal with the high scoring team which made Niskanen look like an All Star Def... Next season, Ehrhoff will score 55-60 pts and then he will sign a new longer deal with a team of his choice...

The Boyle hate is hilarious. Our blue line generates no offense, can't break out of its zone, can't run an effective power play - but yeah, there's absolutely no reason why we should be interested in Rafalski-esque Dan Boyle. At the very least, he'd give as an actual power play. You know what would've helped our cause against the Bruins? An actual power play. You know what would've helped our cause against the Bruins? Better puck management, a stronger possession game. Boyle would help on those fronts. Niskanen - he's worth overpaying, because the need is that great, because our blue line is that bad. You may overpay by a couple million, but you're getting what you need, which is a right-shooting power play quarterback in his prime who weighs 200 lbs and isn't afraid to throw his weight around. And with the cap going up every year, there's a good chance that it looks like a great deal in a couple years. We can't be too picky here. If we don't add a high-end top-four defenseman, we have absolutely no shot at competing for the Cup. None whatsoever. We have Kronwall, two pretty good defensive defensemen, and Brendan Smith (who's 50/50 in re: whether he's going to put it together before he becomes a reclamation project). That's it. We'll be incredibly fortunate if any one of the kids ever becomes as good as Niskanen is now or even as good as Boyle is now. Talk about risk - going with the kids would be the ultimate risk, if money alone could get us a big name who could really help (and that happens to be the case here). Get Niskanen or Boyle and we'll be a much better team.

Report: Holland found at Bell Tire looking confused ...repeatedly kicking tires. The report further states he will continue to kick tires at Bell Tire until his meeting with Dan Ceary at 6.

GUYS. Take a breath. Let's not assume OMG WE COULD HAVE DONE THAT WHY DIDNT KENNY DO THAT?!?! Maybe KH wasn't given the option to do that. Maybe E wanted to go to the Pens. And f*** s***sburgh.

I prefer Boyle and Niskanen for that reason. Boyle can be gone in two years and make room for whoever excels most out of our defensive prospects. I know a lot of people on here think all of them are going to turn into NHL defensemen but the reality is we will be lucky to get one great one out of the bunch. That gives us Niskanen at least long term.

..... Kahn just tweeted the Niskanen informed Wings he is headed elsewhere! Ken Holland has destroyed Detroit as a destination...none of you guys can defend this clown anymore. He may have tried to get these guys, but he made Detroit so unattractive, that nobody wants to come here. This guy needs to be fired... I am losing hope for this franchise as long as Holland is here. Look for the same roster sans Bertuzzi come October.

I agree, LGW would be in melt down mode for $4M for Hemsky for the next 3 years.

We are on the short lists for Boyle, Niskanen, and Iginla....3 of the top free agents. I would hardly say Holland is "phoning it in".

Wasn't Malik's tweet... but a Malik follower. Malik is an apologist through and through. He's fan that wants to be a "reporter" but ultimately is a re-poster/re-tweeter. I go there for the facts and summaries, not for his opinion. He finds no fault in Cleary. That's enough for me to know that he can't be trusted.

On the bright side: we could never be as hilariously incompetent as the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Problem is, if Kenny HAD signed him, Malik would have had a blog post out tonight explaining why it was such a shrewd move and going on and on about how "with just a little luck" it'll be a genius acquisition. He's never wrong because he never commits to anything until after it already happens.

Orpik to Washington should add a little spice to the Pitts-Wash games. At long last, he'll get a chance to hit Crosby.

Does Niskanen have a farm in Wisconsin?
  18. 3 points
God totally saw that one coming. He even posted about it obnoxiously on aquatic message boards. It is stated clearly in the bible that his username was TheOneTrueKing69YOLO.

He's on TSN now. "I did not entertain other long term deals. Pitts been there right there from the start. I want to be there. "

Obviously he wanted to go to Pittsburgh.

Any combination of two: Niskanen, Boyle, Iglinla.... And I'm happy.

Columbus will match any offer sheet on Johansen and be pleased as punch that someone else did their negotiating for them. Nobody is getting offer sheeted. I cannot stress enough how massively unlikely it is that Ryan Johansen (or anybody else) gets moved as a result of an offer sheet.

It's not at all that I wouldn't want a second line center for around $6M or so per on a long term deal, because I absolutely would. However, I wouldn't want a third line center making $4.9M for the next 4 seasons. I would love to have a guy like Stastny but when we already have a capable number 2 center in Weiss. And yes, for all you naysayers, Weiss is very capable and he will show his worth this season when he puts up 55+ points.

Of course you would cherry pick that quote. Any Wings fan that knows what’s up knows that there is about a 5% chance that they actually want Quincey back. This quote is just the product of a PR spin. The Wings official site is not going to come out and say “the Wings have no interest in bringing back Quincey because he sucks”.
