Great goalies learn from games like the last one, and so will Mraz, if he's got the right stuff. Petr the Great!!

I would not do that trade any day of the week. Let's look at this in terms of potential. If all the guys above pan out, then you could be trading a top line power forward (Mantha), and top 6 forward (at least) who plays with more heart, energy and desire for the puck than anyone else I know (Tatar), and a top-4 D man in Ouellet. All for a top pairing D man? I know you have to give to get, and that's fine. But I wouldn't do that IMO.

The mindset around here is that Doan is their Yzerman, which makes me But that's how they feel. Immediate jersey retirement, job in the front office, etc. whatever. I would salivate over OEL in a Wings jersey though. Kid's the real deal.

Just another take on the Buffalo brass scouting GR games - George Malik brought up that Rochester has a back-to-back vs. Grand Rapids next week, so perhaps it's more about preparing for those games. Not to say they weren't there to scout GR talent, but that does add a practical reason for them being there. As far as the OEL stuff goes, I'm not sure what would get Maloney to move him. I'm thinking it'd have to be a massive overpayment. I can't even wrap my head around moving a 23-year-old stud player as part of a rebuild - at least, not without getting a king's ransom back for him. I wonder if it's a way to get talks going about some of the other guys Maloney wants to ship out (Yandle and Michalek). "Yeah, that doesn't get you OEL... but let's discuss Keith Yandle."

    1/29 GDT - Red Wings 1 at Lightning 5

Mind-blowing to me how people could get worked up about this team based on a game when your AHL goalie has a meltdown night and plays terrible. Also mind-blowing how much flack Mrazek is getting for it. This is what I hate about call ups, especially extended ones. There's the upside of them getting some real experience, but it has a tendency of coloring people's perceptions of a player unfairly. I still expect Mrazek to be with the Wings full time next season and to come out of camp in a backup role looking great. And I'm most certainly not scared of literally any team in this league because of a silly game like this.

Twenty-Two goals now for the Tremendously Talented Tomas Tatar! That's just Totally Terrific and Tremendous!

It was a 3rd round pick in the Legwand deal. I agree with a lot you said. We do have pieces that could be moved for that high end D man and we will definitely be looking at the options, but it does have to be the right deal and I'm not sure that it's available. I feel if it's not a home-run we should wait until free agency. Yandle's a great player, but how would he fit with our D corp. He plays the left side - are you going to make Kronwall or Dekeyser switch? Will Dekeyser be forced onto the 3rd pair? I think those two are our building blocks on the back end and I think we should be trying to build around them not forcing them to to change. Also, where would get the RH shots from with Yandle, DK, Kronwall, Quincey, Smith, Kindl signed? As for Myers, There seems to be a lot negative opinions on him, so that doesn't feel like a homerun either. It would be with the hope that he returns to his earlier self with a better team. It could turn out great, okay, or a be burden. I think the players we really want are Greene, Franson, Erhoff. All lined up to be UFAs. We are contenders, but realistically, next year we seems more likely to damage - I hope we don't get the itchy trigger finger and make an okay deal. Especially since there is chance our own prospects could be the answer to our needs in a couple of years. Edit: sounds like wings4thecup06 beat me to my own thoughts while I was writing.

Since they've changed their name to Sabers, are they going to have lightsabers instead of swords in their logo now?

Mantha's game is evolving. We haven't had a prospect with that kind of size or scoring touch in heaven knows how long. Until I see what he's got at the NHL level, I'm not trading him. And I don;t care if he's more Franzen than Shanahan. Size is still size, and we all know that when Franzen was at his best, he was pretty hard to stop. And I don't see why we would trade Tatar tbh. The kid is at the heart of our youth movement, and night in night out, shows the most consistent effort, isn't afraid to go to the tough areas, and loves to score. The guy is virtually a top 6 forward right now, and if he keeps going the way he is, may end up as a top line player one day. And if we're trying to build our D up, why would we then trade away two of our better D prospects in DK and Smith? You would obviously do that deal, and that's fine. I'm just saying I wouldn't want to throw that away, at least not at this stage.

Dickie, I get that you're not big on developing prospects and that you will always take the better player in a trade but there's no way you trade all of that potential for one top pairing defenseman... Sorry, but you're out to lunch if you think that's a good trade for us. Tatar is already a top 6 player on any team in the league, Mantha is the best prospect we've had in our system in years, has had success at every level he's played, and by all rights should become a legit power forward at the NHL level. And then on top of that, Ouellet has the potential to be a solid 2nd pairing defenseman. I think that trade MIGHT make us marginally better today, although I'm not even sure about that, seems how we're losing out scoring leader plus a solid up and coming third pairing guy, and we definitely 100% lose that trade 5, 10, 15 years from now... I'm not even sure I would do that trade for Weber or Ekblad (although I'd be very tempted) but for Oliver Ekman-Larsson, no way. He's a pretty good top pairing guy but he's nowhere near the top of my (never gonna get) dream list...

Czech goalies are pretty good, I hear the Wings employed one once and it worked out pretty well.

Enjoy the game, guys! Sorry to miss it, but games scheduled right in the middle of a Saturday don't work very well for me. Mraz will be fine if the rest of the team comes to play, too. LGRW!!

I will say this. Good on Brian Lashoff. I'm really glad that guy is a million dollars richer. Sure he was a plug. But he did EXACTLY what he was signed to do, and what was expected of him. Kudos buddy.

    Franzen on IR

I bitched about the Tootoo, Sammy, Cleary, Quincey, etc. signings, trades, and re-signs. I was convinced that Holland was past it and didn't have any fresh ideas. Apparently he knew a little bit more than I did just how good his prospects were. Now our team is pretty legit. And we're certainly positioned to be VERY good in the next couple of years. So I've got to admit I was 100% wrong about Holland. At this point, when it comes to building a team, developing players, or acquiring talent, I'm going to defer to the guy who's got four Stanley Cup rings sitting on his mantle.
