All goalie issues aside, I truely believe that this team needs upgrades at D. Ericsson, Smith and Kindl are guys we could trade and not miss. I truely believe Smith is what he is and will not get any better. Maybe Holland will revisit the whole Phaneuf thing. I still don't want to give up Larkin or Mantha....the prospects of Hyman wanting to be a UFA puts us in the mix for him, but still, if we could upgrade to Phanuef, re-sign Zitz, maybe just maybe this teams D can be better. I really believe they over acheived early on and now things just aren't so good. Q hasn't been as bad as I thought, but again, he is just part of the problem. The D needs to get better, the goalies a hell of a lot more consistant. 4 goals should win you games, most nights. Not that this game is over, but I do believe upgrades are needed.

I agree that a Carey Price like goalie would be a massive improvement, but they're extremely hard to come by. And Holland's philosophy has generally been using a value goaltender who's "good enough" so he can spend money elsewhere. The difference these days is there's no Lidstrom on the blueline and that money isn't really getting spent elsewhere.

Seriously, how many of you thought that the defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings would get swept by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 1st round of the 2003 playoffs, or lose in the 2nd to the Calgary Flames in 2004, and to the Edmonton Oilers in the 1st round in 2006? In 2006, they steamrolled through the regular season with 58 wins, and then looked flat as day old beer in their 1st round playoff series against Edmonton. With that said, I don't put much stock in the regular season...

The problem is that we moderated something. In Roboturner's perfect world, nothing on this site would get touched ever, anything that is said goes, and there are no repercussions for breaking the forums rules. We are going to moderate, because there are rules on this forum and it's our job to enforce them. If a GDT is going way off track after a loss and you lose a post because of the need for us to edit it, even though we at times have to remove dozens of other posts in the process that no one else seems to come here regularly and complain about, it's something you need to come to terms with. If this thread is to remain open solely for Roboturner to continue to revert back to in the event that we have to moderate something just to complain about, I don't see a constructive reason to leave it open at all. If you crave and explanation that badly, just let us know and we can submit formal warnings instead of simply removing the content, and in your warning you can have a detailed description of why it was moderated. So in response to "I see you guys are back to deleting my posts, meanwhile the "in" clique can post whatever the hell they want", my response is stop replying and contributing to off topic discussions that progress the derailing of threads and you won't have to worry about your posts being removed. We have full documentation of everything removed and it passes through Matt also, so instead of acting like the victim like we are pinpointing your individual post and removing it while leaving the rest up in the thread, state more factual information that isn't directed at bashing the moderation staff at every opportunity and state the truth that all the content is gone, including yours, that set that particular GDT off track.

Don't lose faith, there's always next year. Keep that dream alive. In response to the OP. IF this team can get healthy and IF the kids get a boost from some playoff adrenaline and IF, say Mrazek plays like Halak did for Montreal in 2010 and IF Babcock starts making better decisions and IF they get some puck luck, then maybe they can squirm their way out of the first round. But obviously that's a lot of IFs.
