I don't like assigning a number of games for each of them to play, let them play and give the playing time to whoever earns it. If they play at the same level, give it to the up and comer.

It's kind of weird how personal some of you guys make it with the players. Whether it's Howard or Franzen or Quincey. When they wear the winged wheel I will always cheer and hope for them to do well. I have a feeling this stupid goalie flame war is going to carry into every GDT all season long. And frankly that's a shame.

I think the solution is to trade Mrazek. Howard is an all star when he's not injured. Mrazek is too inconsistent. We don't need his amazing saves or great puck handling ability. We don't need his wins or shutouts or confidence. We don't need his blue chip talent. We have Jimmy. He played like crap last year after he came back from his injury. But lets give him the starter role because he makes 5 mil a year. He has been consistent for years. Consistently average. For the first time in a long time we finally have a young blue chip talent in goal which the Wings have drafted and developed. It was tough to swallow that game 7 loss to Tampa. The one takeaway I came away with was at least I knew we have a franchise goalie in Mrazek. I figured most Wings fans would be excited about it. I was wrong I guess. To each their own. I'm still excited about Mrazek. This team is lucky to have this kid.

Vernon should play instead of Osgood. Osgood hasn't proven anything.

HAHA yeah he came way out of the net, shot it right into our defensemsan's shin pads where it promptly bounced right to that kid (who is from Marquette!) and he had a wide open net. Just killed out momentum after we had no business being up 1-0 in the series (and yeah i'm sure he did indeed play well and may have played a large role in stealing the first game...) This was a game soon after he had been watching Petr playing the puck. Jimmy says to the media, "I like how he just goes out and does it." So he thinks HE can just go out and do it! First of all, No he doesn't just go and do it, he's been practicing for years how to do it. Second, the playoffs probably aren't the time to start ******* around with that kind of s*** if you're not comfortable with it. Third, don't try to pass the blame away by saying "Yeah, the video guy said he looked and it and the puck was kinda on edge and that's why it took off on me."

It's so obvious isn't it? Mainly because Mrazek is so confident playing the puck at all times. He wants to play the puck. Jimmy doesn't. Mrazek always makes the right decision with the puck. Howard usually gives it away. Remember the giveaway versus Boston in the playoffs? What a gift that was. All goalies will make mistakes every now and then and turn the puck over. But Jimmy does it all the time. He really has no idea what to do when he has the puck. With our defenseman, we need all the help we can get in getting the puck out of our own zone. Our strength is our talented group of forwards . Mrazek gets the puck to our dmen so they can get it to guys like Tats, Dats, Gus and Hank. We spend less time chasing the other team and more time playing our puck possession skill game.

I'm not advocating trading Jimmy this season. He still has value on this team right now. Mrazek is the better goalie and should be the starter. Mrazek's ability to play the puck alone makes him better. Am I the only one here who sees how much better the defenseman are when Mrazek is in net? It's like having a third dman back at all times. Is there anything Howard does better than Mrazek? What am I missing here? When did Jimmy Howard become this great goalie? We're going to hold Mrazek's inexperience against him? Are Red Wings fans so used to average goaltending that we now are unable to recognize a blue chip talent in goal? I just shake my head. Lol I don't understand what Howard has done to deserve such blind support. I like Jimmy. I do. I've been hoping for years he would be a star goalie. He isn't. His ceiling has been achieved already. He is still an NHL goalie. Mrazek has a much higher talent level. He Will only get better. I look forward to seeing this. Is this how it will be here? Each time Mrazek gets scored on or dare I say it, lose a game, are we going to want to run him out if town like Tim Chevaldae? Why does Mrazek get no credit and Howard gets no blame? Seriously, I don't get it. Its like most here want to forget Jimmys awful play after his injury and give him a do over. If it were not for Mrazek, the Wings would not even have made the playoffs last season. But heY Jimmy Howard is the man right? Those first few months he was better than Carey Price! Lol

Every year in every sport teams overpay for players that have a great half season or playoff run. In many cases those deals fail. To small of a sample size. That is the heart of the question here. is a guy that has played all of 30 games in the NHL ready to be a #1 G? That is a huge risk to take that leap. There is no need to rush into anything. we have depth! That is a good thing. The flip side is, we move Howard and mrazek fails. then where are we? Screwed. Like half the league now that can't find one good G.

I don't think it's ideal to move him soon, but if someone comes along and offers up something decent for him, I think Holland will listen and consider it. If Mrazek starts off humming along and Howard plays well in his starts, it would be ideal to move him sooner rather than later while we can get something decent for him. It's not going to get any easier to move a goalie with his contract as time goes on, and even in Holland's roughest years, he's proven again and again that he's quite adept at finding capable backups at great price points. I see no reason to believe he can't do it again. But I think the earliest this gets done is at the trade deadline. Next summer is most likely when it'll go down though.

Cap Friendly uses 16 forwards, including Ferraro/Andersson and Miele. Hockey's Cap uses 15 forwards, including Ferraro/Andersson. General Fanager uses 14 forwards (no Ferraro), but it doesn't account for the $740,000 in carryover overage bonus money. Hockey's Cap likely has the most accurate number, IMO. Detroit has to pay that carryover money, as far as I know. Of course, Detroit's going to start the year with Datsyuk on LTIR, so... Either way, Hockey's Cap is likely only off by 815K (Andersson) or 600K (Ferraro), depending on who you think will eventually get sent down. That's just my take, anyway.

Why would they regret it? They got good production, for less than market value, and then traded him for futures. They got everything they wanted out of the deal. I don't think there's a problem signing and hometown discount. But if I were going to do the organization a solid and take less money, you bet your ass I'd want a no trade clause. No way would I do them that favor without some insurance for myself.

It was a strange time in the NHL. Montreal wins 4 straight, the Islanders win 4 straight, and the Oilers (almost) win 5 straight. Poor Boston. They had some great teams during this stretch, but were on the wrong end of those teams.

I am not bitter at all that these guys are making this kind of money. I am just not going to feel empathy for a player because his last contract was 10 million over 4 years and not 12.5 million over 4 years.

Or Jimmy Howard.

No argument Howard was having an all-star calibre season before he was injured, but when he returned he was horrible. I did'nt see Lundqvist fall apart when he returned from a long injury. Howard just could'nt get it back together, even after being given many chances to do so. That's not what you expect out of your veteran number 1 $5 million per season goalie.

I can recall when many Habs fans were angry they let Jaroslav Halak go and kept Carey Price. It was the right move. They knew his talent and potential. It paid off big time. The same will happen with Mrazek. Blash and Holland know what they have. At the very least, he will be given a fair chance to prove it.

Do you not watch the wings games, I can recall a few games from 14-15 where he carried the wings, How is it that he'll never be a number one goalie or elite? Can you see into the future? I can also recall many times where his aggressive style stopped great high percentage chances, I'm convinced you very rarely watch the wings or at least the games Mrazek has played, I also remember when Carey Price was getting lit up and allowing an insane amount of goals in his first few seasons just like Petr just like any rookie goalie.

One person said they thought his potential was to steal games like Price. I used Price to show that even the best goalies go through growing pains. I was not comparing the 2. I think Mrazek has already reigned in his game somewhat. I think his aggressive, confident approach is a strength. I think he's in the process of understanding his angles and recovery time at the NHL level.

I recall Howard falling apart last season and Mrazek winning games. I recall an all world performance in game 1 versus Tampa in which the Wings had no business winning. Howard is an average goalie. He is what he is. We have a stud franchise goalie in Mrazek and he needs to continue his progression. I'm confident Blash will allow him to do this. If it were up to most on this board, Mrazek would hardly play. I'm fine with Jimmy still being a Red Wing. But Mrazek is better right now. He will keep getting better the more he plays. Look Mrazek is Secretariat. Let him loose and he will win us games. If the plan is to stifle him then we might as well trade him. What has Jimmy done to deserve being the #1 goalie? It's not like he's Carey Price or Pekka Rinne. He isJimmy Howard. He has had a mediocre career. Hey, if Jimmy comes in and lights it up and outplays Mrazek, then he should play more. Where is there any evidence of this? I haven't seen it. Mrazek is a star in the making here. Embrace it . Don't stifle it. What if Bowman had stifled a young Pavel Datsyuk? If a young player earns the right to play then he should play. Period.

You've said this a few times, but I guess you haven't read people's responses. He's been there for his 3 years. It's not a possibility for him to play there. We'd have to send through waivers and there's 0% chance he'd make it through. Furthermore, playing more in the AHL wouldn't help his game - he needs to just get used to the higher skill level/faster pace etc... Somebody else mentioned Carey Price - we all saw him struggle for years. Few, if any, goalies enter the league as all stars - they go through some growing pains.

Again, Glencross isn't saying anything about struggling to live on the millions he's made. He's talking about leaving money on the table. Now that he's been traded after taking a hometown discount he realizes that this is first and foremost a business and regrets his decision.

Round out his game in the AHL? You just don't get it do you? Guy, it's not 2012 anymore. Mrazek would need to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL. Is this what you are suggesting?
