He said that he's been fortunate to play with one of the best players in the world (Datsyuk) for his entire career, and then he said that Datsyuk know this is swedish television, so he will say the "right things" and what they want to hear (laughs). Then the reporter ask about his role in the success of Datsyuk to which he replys "not much at all to be honest, he would have won those awards without me" (laughs again). -

Kevin Allen is a voting member AND the president of the PHWA btw aka the guys who vote for Rookie of the Year (among other things). Great to see Larkin on his list (for now). "Larkin has been the best all-around rookie. He has been Detroit’s best forward." ^ Agreed! -

From Kevin Allen's column at USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2016/01/26/all-star-game-first-half-analysis-second-half-expectations/79272740/ -
1 pointI honestly think that when Smith is playing his game he's our best puck-mover while under pressure. I don't think LGW is ready for that opinion yet though

I don't know if he picks the designs, or if he approaches Bishop with some ideas, or if all the credit resides in the artist who painted them, but... Jimmy has always excelled with the design of his masks. -
1 pointWhy would he waste money on a mask that won't leave the dressing room? Lol

There's more to the story - Dylan Larkin edition just released. Enjoy. -
1 pointIf Luongo can be traded, Jimmy can be traded. Luongo's contract was much much much worse when he was traded then what Jimmy's is now. After this year, Jimmy has 3 years left at 5.3 million per year. Luongo has a cap hit right now of 4.5 million for another 6 years, and he was traded 2 years ago. Even for a better goalie, 8 years at 4.5million is much worse then 3 years at 5.3 million. If you want to compare stats: Jimmys Stats: This year: 7-7-4, 90.8 SV%, 2.76 GAA Last year - 23-13-11, 91 SV%, 2.44 GAA Luongo's Stats: Last year before trade: 19-16-6, 91.7 SV%, 2.38 GAA 2 Years before trade: 9-6-3, 90.7 SV%, 2.56 GAA

1 pointYeah they could use him for sure - they have a lot of talent in their system right now especially with Eichel and O'rielly. Jimmy could be a huge boost for them. He's a good goalie just being outshined by Mrazek (who is playing like Carey Price lol)

1 pointWasn't Jimmy born and raised New York? Wonder if Buffalo is an option.
-
1 pointIf Roberto Luongo and his contract can get traded, anyone's can.
-
1 pointMaybe Holland is hoping that if he moves Andersson enough, he'll get stuck on waivers... Like some kind of purgatory for fringe NHL'ers.

Bravo, Smitty
NerveDamage reacted to e_prime for a post in a topic
So... IN THE PLAYOFFS? How'd we even make it there with Smitty in the lineup? Gee. I don't want to belabor this point. He makes mistakes. So does every defenseman in the league before, after, and including TPH - Niklas Lidstrom. Saying that Smith alone is going to keep us from the playoffs is hyperbole to the Nth degree. We know Smith ain't that bad if kip is here to defend the guy! -

Ugh. I can't believe I'm about to defend Brendan Smith. First, bottom pair defensemen (and bottom 6 forwards) are almost NEVER the reason for a bad season. The difference in quality between our bottom pair and that of...say...Washington, is marginal. If we don't make the playoffs this year it will be because none of our high end players (aside from Larkin) was comparably better than their counterparts on more successful teams. None of Dats, Z, Tatar, Nyquist, Kronwall, Green, etc. have been as good as they should be. Secondly, Smith's handpass from the bench. I'm tired of hearing about it. For two years prior to that play, I'd been regularly pointing out that Smith just wasn't very good, and was almost UNIVERSALLY met with opposition. Smith could blow coverages, turn the puck over in the d-zone, make bad pinches, or take untimely penalties and the chorus was generally, "Smitty's good. He's dynamic because of his skating. He's the only guy that will drop the gloves". People loved that dope...inexplicably. Then the handpass happened and all the same people who loved him before, started s***ting on him. But that wasn't his low point. His low point was the previous two years when he regularly sucked and everybody said "Smith's playing pretty good right now, maybe our best defenseman". Now Smith IS playing pretty good. He's rounding out his game in a way I NEVER thought he would. And people are still talking about that handpass. It was dumb. I agree. But it's far from the worst thing he's done on the ice (not that anybody had bothered to notice before). And he's far from the player he was when he did it. So can we all get back to bitching about Ericsson already? -
