Lol at people who are overrating Fowler. Talk Trouba and I'll agree, but Fowler will always be nothing more than a 2nd pairing D-man.

Eh, I think that's a bit of stretch. Based on what he's shown thus far in his career, he's a good middle-pairing defensemen and that's probably more-or-less it. If he becomes a staple on a team's top pairing, it'll probably be because his partner is an excellent #1 defenseman who can really "drive the bus." We don't have an excellent #1 defenseman, and that, honestly, is the most pressing concern for us.

And i would take Nielson over Datsyuk at this point.

This has nothing to do with what I said. My point was that a player not signing right away is often a result of said player wanting more then he is worth. I did not say Franson was better, the same, or worse then Qunicey as it is irrelevant. I would use Franson in my example again if I had to as IMO it is a similar situation. (I admit, this is speculation) I believe Quincey had a price tag that was higher then what teams were willing to pay. I'm sure if Quincey was willing to take a short term deal at a reasonable cap hit, he would have been signed extremely quick. Quincey would be a great 3rd pairing guy on a good team. I never said he was a top 4 guy. This is not how trades work. You cannot tell Anaheim, we are giving you Nyquist for Fowler end of story. They may not want Nyquist, they may want AA, Mantha or Larkin......In that 5 questions thing, Kenny basically said that he feels goose has hit his ceiling, if that's the case I cant see why he would think that Nyquist "is the future of the franchise". You're just creating a narrative because you are frustrated with the realities of today's market.

We have too many 2nd pairing D-man trading for another is not very smart. Talk to me about potential 1D trades. Enough with the Fowler stuff, the guy is a 2D and nothing more. People keep talking about how we're mediocre but their solutions consist of mediocrity.

Sometimes a player wants a ton from the team he's on just to force them to let him go then signs a reasonable deal with a new team. I'd be trying to get him right now, but Kenny won't because that would mean parting with someone who hasn't said he wants out of Detroit

He went to say, the Trouba camp could force the Jets to trade him. His asking price is set at a steep price. Watters says Trouba may not like the way WPG is using him at the moment. The Jets of tons of Righty's and that could force Trouba to play on the 2nd/3rd pairing or maybe even switch to the left side. All of this, combined w/the Jets not willing to give Trouba his asking price, is the reason why Jacob may want out of WPG. now that it seems plausible, what do you guys think it would take to bring him to Detroit? Come on KH the puck is on your end now.

Agreed, not to mention its apples and oranges. Datsyuk for 40 games at a 6.5mil caphit as out 1C cannot be compared to Vanek as our 2W? at a 2.6 mil caphit playing 82 games. We are literally talking different positions, likely different lines, different caphit, and likely a different amount of games played. Like kickazz said, comparing Nielson to Datsyuk who has a similar caphit is a much better comparison.

Vanek isn't his replacement though, Nielsen is. Vanek is Franzen's replacement.

Give him the best wingers in the world, his body still wouldn't hold up 82 games anymore. Lets not make something that has nothing to do with Holland about him.
