Yzerman was a much better offensive player in his prime. How many times has Tayes even finished top 10 in scoring? Tayes right now is the player Yzerman was in his mid 30's. More focused on two-way play and not putting up the big numbers.

I want a player that plays exactly like Simmonds, but I wouldn't give up a significant amount (not close to what it would cost) to get him at this point in his career. He will be 29 years old to start next season, and the style of game he plays, he won't likely be close to the player he is now, in 3-5 years from now (when we will be ready to contend again). I'm stillness hoping we have our very own Wayne Simmonds in the pipeline, in Givani Smith. Although I doubt he becomes anything close to the beast Simmonds is (offensively speaking), he could develop into a lesser version, that plays a similar game in the middle 6...

It is, but it won't happen. He's their Yzerman/Sakic type.

Yes, one per team. Dekeyser went from being seriously over rated to seriously under rated in a year. Not protecting him would take a dumpster fire of a defense and toss a hundred tires onto it. Of course, that would probably mean a top 5 pick next year so maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

I thought we would be a good trade partner with them but seeing those salaries it doesn't seem to make sense. I know they had interest in Gus around the trade deadline but the only logical contract coming back our way that plays D is Hjalmarrson but I don't think they are trading him. Man I thought we had contract issues. Crawford and Seabrook both at 6 + million and now the Panarin contract will be on the books at 6+ next year + 21 milliion tied up in Toews and Kane. Looks good on them. Their play reminds me so much of how the Wings played after 08-09, they look tired, still good enough to make the playoffs but it would take an unreal hot streak to make a run in the playoffs.

Wayne pls... One of my favorite players in the league. Is there a better power forward in the NHL today? He was a goalie; he was already out of his mind!

Mike Sielski, for Philly.com: "In rebuilding the Flyers, Ron Hextall should consider all options, including trading Wayne Simmonds" And with that, I issue the customary bi-annual reminder that Wayne Simmonds grew up a fan of the Detroit Red Wings...

Svechnikov scored and Nosek burys the goal in OT. Good way to start the playoffs!

Toews isn't worth that cap hit.

I said at the beginning of last year they should have made one of their bottom 2 lines a checking line, Abndelkader-Helm-Glendening. They get defensive zone starts and their job is to hit and piss off the other team. The other line should be 3 young skilled players. Mantha-AA-Jurco. That line gets mostly offensive zone starts against the other team's 3rd and 4th lines and their primary job is to score, be defensively responsible but don't focus on that. They should do something similar next year. Nyquist-Zetterberg-Mantha Tatar-Larkin-Nielsen Svechnikov-AA-TBD Abdelkader-Helm-Glendening

Takes more than one player to win....or lose a series.

I think they're fortunes are tied that of J.T. because I don't think they could get value in a trade due to the contract. The only trade idea that popped into my head could be something with the Avs since there's been rumors of them moving McKinnon, Duchene, or Landeskog. Something there might make sense for both sides. But I don't know how they'd deal with the salary difference. I don't foresee a big thing like that happening, though (but also I never would have guessed Subban for Weber) More doable, I'd try to shed the Hossa contract to add a new spark. Hossa's 38 and will be a 5.275 caphit for the next 4 years. He's still doing well and could still have demand, but his last 2 years are definitely his worst statistically and I think it will only continue at this point. And he's just outside the core, so he could be a way to shake things up, but not tear them down. He, like Toews, has a NMC, though, so I don't know if either could happen. Maybe they'll just hope to lose someone like Kruger (make's 3.08 mill) in the expansion draft to gain the room to bring someone in.

who would want to pay 10.5M for <60 points a season? Personally I think its one of the worst contracts in the league right now.
