Big opportunity. Hopefully he can make good on it. Mrazek needs it and the organization needs it to figure out what they're going to do with him going forward.

It's not even a question. Both Zetterberg and to a certain extent Datsyuk have surpassed Ted Lindsay in terms of franchise records and numbers. Lindsay and Abel are the floor. #40, #13 and #91 are in the middle. The ceiling is Howe, followed by Yzerman/Delvecchio. Of course the whole individual trophy thing is the question. Lindsay won a Ross and Abel won a Hart. But Datsyuk won (A lot) of Selkes and Byngs and Z won the Conn Smyth so there's that. Points 1. Gordie Howe* 1809 2. Steve Yzerman* 1755 3. Alex Delvecchio* 1281 4. Nicklas Lidstrom* 1142 5. Sergei Fedorov* 954 6. Henrik Zetterberg 932 7. Pavel Datsyuk 918 8. Norm Ullman* 758 9. Ted Lindsay* 728 10. Brendan Shanahan* Games Played 1. Yep. Also I mentioned this in an earlier post. But neither of Lindsay, Abel or Delvecchio had their jerseys retired till the 1990s. 20-30 years after they retired from hockey. A lot of people don't know this and they just spew out that stupid argument. "Oh why should Z and D be retired? They're not at the same level as Lindsay or Abel" Know your s*** before you use that as your premise. The only reason Lindsay, Abel and Delvecchio got their jerseys retired is because Mike Illitch LOWERED the bar. The bar used to be Gordie Howe. He was the ONLY number retired for 20 years for the entire Wings franchise (not including the Aurie fiasco). All you smart alecs that use that argument, see below and pay attention to the dates. Godam pet peeve of mine too @kliq. I probably had the same line of thinking though, until I actually went and looked some of this stuff up. Part of the issue is that a lot of these older players from the 50s and 60s are created to be legends by our parents etc. And they were definitely great players but the perception is not necessarily the reality. Zetterberg and Datsyuk have both surpassed Lindsay and Abel. That's the reality but it's hard for some people to swallow something they haven't witnessed. Detroit Red Wings retired numbers No. Player Position Career Number retirement 1 Terry Sawchuk G 1949–1955, 1957–1964, 1968–1969 March 6, 1994[282] 5 Nicklas Lidstrom D 1991–2012 March 6, 2014[280] 7 Ted Lindsay LW 1944–1957, 1964–1965 November 10, 1991[283] 9 Gordie Howe RW 1946–1971 March 12, 1972[277] 10 Alex Delvecchio C 1950–1974 November 10, 1991[284] 12 Sid Abel C 1938–1943, 1945–1952 April 29, 1995[285] 19 Steve Yzerman C 1983–2006 January 2, 2007[161]

Same old debate, new year. But now Fedorov is officially a HHOF and was honored by Detroit. He's seemed to have mended relations with the Wings for the most part and thanked the organization in his HOF speech. Datsyuk has moved on and his career with the Wings has come to an end. Contract was moved and things worked out. Zetterberg... is basically done but just riding it out so.. Osgood because people always bring him up in the conversation. Here are their achievements- I've italicized and bolded the ones I felt are pretty significant accomplishments. Let me know if I'm missing anything or would like to add other categories. Sergei Fedorov Hart Trophy as league MVP - 1 Selke Trophy as best defensive forward - 2 Ted Lindsay Award as Most Outstanding player selected by NHLPA - 1 Stanley Cups - 3 World Championships - 3 Gold medals Olympic Silver Medalist in 1998 Inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015 Pavel Datsyuk Lady Byng Trophy for player best exhibiting sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct - 4 Selke Trophy as best defensive forward - 3 Stanley Cups - 2 World Championships - 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal Henrik Zetterberg Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs MVP - 1 Foundational Player award applying core values of hockey to enrich lives of people in community - 1 King Clancy Memorial Trophy for leadership on and off ice and humanitarian contributions - 1 Stanley Cups - 1 World Championships - 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist - 2006 and 2014 Triple Gold Club member Chris Osgood William Jennings Trophy - 2 Stanley Cups - 3

Nervous about this one, Mrazek is like 1-7-1 against the Bolts with abysmal numbers. We are gonna need to put up at least 4-5 goals to stand a chance against this offense and our rough defense. Prove me wrong boys!

I wonder if this is a test for Mrazek. Jimmy has been incredible for us, and he deserves a break... with the bye week coming up this may just be a move to see if Mraz needs to pack his pads and depart soon. Either way, we need a W today. LGRW!!!

Because it's not allowed until he's 20 or played 4 years in the major juniors. It's the agreement with the NHL to protect the CHL.

If there was a poll up right now for the first half MVP ( for the Wings ) and Jimmy Howard doesn't get at least 97% of the votes I must be watching a totally different sport. That guy has been above the rim good this year. He's been so good they don't even think about putting Mrazek in net.

Not even close. Smith was an idiot. Cholowski is a smart player, not super highly skilled but uses his brains and works hard. We'll see, I'm not high on him yet but I'm content so far.

How. Just so you know. It takes two to tango. If Fedorov really wanted to stay, he could have. Just like Stamkos did for less. Yeah with endorsement deals in Toronto, Stamkos would have made more than he is in Tampa even without their tax rate. But he chose to stay. I'm not saying Feds shouldn't be retired but I am saying that you're trying to paint a picture of Fedorov being the cornered into not re-signing (as if he can't make his own decisions lol) with Detroit when he had the damn right to stay here if he wanted to.

It's a legitimate option because Z and D played entire careers as Red Wings while Feds and Osgood did not. It's not singling them out, it's a categorical option. Some people value whether or not a player dedicated his entire career to the franchise.
