You're being a bit of a turd ferguson with all the hyperbole, especially when considering he has a few better highlights than that one. Podkolzin isn't my first choice, but I see a lot to like there, and no It's not just because of a highlight reel play he made once.

It's like that one time when he skated right between those two defenders without getting touched, but then he fell down anyway, but then it was ok because he shot the puck from his knees and scored a goal. How neat was that? So neat, is how neat it was. Plus the way then the exact same thing was also recorded from a different angle. Super-duper neat. Then just when you think it couldn't possibly get any neater, the first angle also happened zoomed-in and in slow motion. Boom. That was the sound of my head exploding from neatness overload.

The thing that has me thinking he'll likely hit the open market a year from now, is that the Jets wouldn't allow the Rangers to speak with Trouba's camp before the deal was made... It seems like Trouba was probably telling Cheveldayoff that he wanted to hit free agency. Of course, that could have just been talk, and a lot can change in a year's time, but I think there's still a reasonably high chance that Trouba makes it to free agency next summer. And if he does, he WILL he a Red Wing...

Oh, yeah, I don't mean we should only draft forwards with our key picks. We're definitely getting at least one defenseman with our first five picks. I'm just saying if there's a voice in Yzerman's head that continually tut-tuts him about the sorry state of our blue line, he should ignore it.

I agree that he'd go unclaimed. My point is THAT WOULD BE A BAD THING because you'd having a significant amout of cap space wasted. As long as he's better than at least one other player you're better off riding out his contract with him playing limited minutes and spending significant time in the press box as he continues to age. I swear I'd love to see how half the members of LGW would fare as GMs in the NHL. You'd have 20 rookies on the team and about 30 million in dead cap money.

I dont think replacing Nielsen, Abby, and Helm with Ehn, DLR andKumpfer or Svech would have moved this team up the standings at all. Abby is retiring a Red Wing. You could roll with: Bert-Larkin-Mantha AA-Veleno-Zadina Hirose-Nielsen-Ras Helm-Glendening-Abby Svech, Ehn
