Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

Here are the more or less interesting takes form the video: - he is proud wearing the Winged Wheel - he wants to compete with the "big guys", wants to be with the Red Wings - His role model is Scott Niedermayer, but he also loves the play of Roman Josi and Zack Werenski - he was raised in Erfurt and was then invited by Mannheim at the age of 14. His parents gave up their Jobs and moved with him. - the moment Yzerman took the stage his mom padded his knee and said "Now it's your turn." - he usually takes his time with things, doesn't feel any pressure. He is usually calm on the ice. - says it's an honor to represent Germany in the NHL - huge amount of talented prospects in Detroit - learned a lot during the prospect camp - he says he didn't saw a lot of the City of Detroit, but that you're near to Toronto and Chicago, that Lake Michigan isn't so far away and that there are areas around Detroit that are beautiful for sure. () - he still needs to get used being more in the center of media attention. - he is a little afraid, but also very excited coming to North America - is excited for the camps, they will decide what comes next after it - he doesn't rule out coming back to Mannheim, but it's only the third option after the Red Wings and the Griffins -

Did you see the lettering on the back of the jerseys? Guess we are going straight style this year. -
1 pointI knew this is what you meant. You get a player that puts up 70+ points and you suddenly want to trade them because they will command a big pay day? To me that's really dumb. You want good players. You need to be willing to pay good players. What exactly would you want to trade one of them for? If you're trading for a top pair defenseman, you're going to have to pay him that or more. If you're trading for anything less, it's a waste.

1 point"Hi, I'm Buppy. I'm going to accuse you of talking out of your ass and I'm going to do so while talking out of my ass." I don't have a chip on my shoulder about Seider. I don't think hE wAsN't RaNkEd hIgH eNoUgH. Seider got a lot of love from people and I pointed that out at the time. I'm not saying he didn't get love. I'm saying I read lots of Seider takes and I thought they were, on average, lacking. I'm not saying the reason for that is some huge mystery or cosmic injustice, though I *am* saying I was surprised that I didn't see more people saying, for example, that playing in a men's league as a teenager is impressive, yes, *and* is also a factor you have to consider when you characterize his playing style and assess his perceived strengths and weaknesses. A teen defenseman in a men's league is going to play conservatively. It's a simple, obvious point...yet I didn't see many people explicitly making it. One of our resident Germanbros @ely s has pointed out that Seider is way more offensively inclined than his 2018-19 showing would suggest. I've seen a couple of other Germanbros make the same point over at the The Accursed HFBoards. I like the deep dive Dobber analysis. There are a couple of Europe-focused outlets that scouted him pretty thoroughly. As North Americans get easier access to info re: Europe-based draft-eligibles, I think the general tenor of discussions about these players is going to shift. People are going to be more familiar with non-marquee non-NA players and the way they think about them, rate them, pick them apart, etc. is going to change. Historically, European hockey is a black box for the North American layman. Now? I can find a stream of any game in any noteworthy league in Europe. I'm tired and I've got a headache. This is a dumb fight you're trying to pick.

1 pointIt's one of the main reasons why I like Dobber Prospects so much. I think they and some others are doing solid work, which includes, among other things, giving people a steady stream of info re: young under-the-radar players who are playing outside of North America. https://dobberprospects.com/prospect-deep-dive-moritz-seider/

1 pointThat's dumb. If the Keller deal were to set the market, then any good players would cost just as much. Can't be a cheapskate, trading away anyone good before you have to pay them, and expect to build anything. If the market says our guys would cost more than we think, all it would mean is that maybe we'd have to get rid of a bad contract or two in order to sign a good UFA or two. Beyond that, Keller just turned 21 and has 114 points in 167 games. Larkin is comparable, not the other guys. In fact he's well ahead of Larkin's production at that age. If anything, this deal should keep the cost of our guys down, since none of them are anywhere near as good. Larkin signed for 5 years and could hit UFA before his 27th birthday. Keller gave up 3 extra years of his prime, and has performed better at this point. It's a risky deal, but not necessarily a bad one, and could easily be a huge bargain. At their age, long-term deals for our kids probably wouldn't get you any appreciable discount. May even cost more. Looking for a new contract at 34 would be much tougher than at 30. They could very well ask for a premium if they're giving you pretty much the rest of their career.

1 pointAgreed. We're not icing an especially deep team this year, but I thought our marquee players were our best players and played well overall. Seider is a beauty. Outside of sure-thing top-three picks, I'm not sure you're gonna find a more complete 18-year-old defenseman. Size, skating, smarts, vision, poise, physicality, shooting, passing, playmaking, PP QBing, defensive mindfulness, mean streak -- he has it all. I love that he routinely holds the puck and makes plays under pressure when 99% of other 18-year-old defensemen will panic and throw the puck away because they don't wanna get crushed and/or they don't trust their puck skills in a say-your-prayers situation. I also love that he went HAM after Dach. Dach's a big boy and Seider laid him out flat on at least one occasion and I loved it. Veleno was quiet through the first 20 but came alive after that and ended up potting a couple of goals and leading a valiant comeback effort. Aside from maybe his skating, there isn't one aspect of his game that really stands out and makes everyone take notice -- but by the end of the game, he will have put up some points while doing some unheralded heavy lifting for his team. Also, dude is a handsome son of a b****. Zadina is a fraction of a second, a fraction of an inch, and a few pounds of muscle away from being a menace. It's kinda maddening. Could've blown the game wide open a few times but, like I said, he's just that itty-bitty teensy-weensy bit off. Needs a little more seasoning. Showed good chemistry with Veleno, made a perfect pass to set up one of Veleno's goals. So we might have a new dynamic duo to look forward to, first in Grand Rapids and eventually in Detroit. Thought Hirose looked good. Maybe my eyes were deceiving me, but he looked a bit quicker than I remember him being. He loves selling the shot and then going behind his back with a pass to the point on the PP. I can't recall a single Red Wing in recent memory trying that with any regularity. I've been kinda down on Givani Smith after the 2018-19 season he had, but I think he still has the potential to be a decent complementary grinder. His value will probably be tied directly to the caliber of his linematers. Case in point: Our first PP unit looked really good last night and I thought he was an important part of it. He won't be a big producer, but he can f*** your s*** up in the trenches. Gustav Lindstrom didn't impress me. Granted, he's not a flashy player. One of those "If you don't notice him, that means he's doing his job" defensemen. I liked Alec Regula's work on the point, but I didn't notice him much outside of that.

1 pointyapp, his cross ice outlet pass to Kuffner for example was spot on and you probably can now understand why I said that you have this strange feeling that he just knows all the time, the puck in our d-zone always ended up on his stick and he knew what to do with it. It´s not flashy, it´s just good. Apart from the misjudgment of his time and space before the 1-1 he played a pretty mistake free game, not flashy, just good. After TC there shouldn´t be left any doubters of his #6 selection.

1 pointHe looks real good, some reports even think he´s the best skater in this draft. I try to watch him more often, what I´ve seen so far is quite impressive, he is fast as f*ck and is getting shots off quick and accurate. As the season goes on I think he will only rise in the rankings

Well I watched the game and really only watched Seider. I'll have to watch it again later and focus on Zadina. Seider likes to shoot huh? He even had an apple seider taken away from due to a high stick on the tip in. I was shocked by how much he was shooting and how comfortable he looked running the point. His passing - while simple and not overly creative - is crisp and on the tape. Seems to make good, or at least safe, decisions with the puck. As well his choices on when to pinch seemed astute and overall play in the backend. I'd describe him exactly as scouts do: big smart mobile Dman with definite offensive potential on the horizon. He also looked liked a leader out there. He was calling plays and telling guys what to do on the faceoff. The whole Dach v. Seider thing was great too. The two immedately identified each other and battled. And Seider didnt back down at all. Very very happy with this selection right now. -
1 pointHuh? This is a very team friendly contract... You don't think Gardiner is worth $4.05M per?
